Starting a new thread so as not to usurp Java Duck's planned venture on Halloween eve (Sunday evening, Oct. 30....

At tonight's WSGA meeting, several of us worker bees expressed interest in doing this as a group on Saturday night, Oct. 29, meeting about 8 pm, rather than midnight Sunday night. Hey, that's still Halloween weekend, and as a bonus, we can leave some "treats" for those who follow us Sunday night. :P

So....who's interested in taking on Elly on Saturday evening, Oct. 29?

Prying Pandora, we'd really looooove to have you along to heckle, I mean 'guide,' us in our quest....

Well, I certainly can't miss that, and the 8:00 start time is much better for this worker bee who has to work on Sunday.

So who wants to join me at the Swamp Edge Heckling Club? Andrew?? Nolie? Funnynose? Marcus? BL? Remember that Dupont Crossroads is still there laughing at us!

Oooh --Saturday night might be easier to get permission for (um, I mean more reasonable for someone who should help children get ready for school Sunday night and drive them around Monday morning). :P Assuming I don't do too many bad things between now and then, count me in.

What specific meeting point at 8:00 on October 29?

No doubt the best place is the one you suggested last year, Travis! :(

and for those that don't like to convert coordinates, N47°06.438 W122°38.118

YOU? I was only last night pondering if I'd see you again. Listen you fetid sack of butter, I double-dog dare you to revisit me. I'm on a diet until then.

"bait[ers]"? I'm sure my wife would be happy to hear that I've become bait. She's been hoping for an accidental death (extra insurance coverage). As long as I don't limp out simply maimed.

I have some extra dive weights and they may never find your body. Does that count as "accidental"?

We all know I'm the biggest and slowest 'bait' going on this trip. If Elly decides to stock up for the long, cold winter, I'm sure I can provide a good 'cover' for you all to escape...

I'll make sure LittleBlue has a list of who to contact...

I don't know. My employer self-insures. I'm sure they'd drag it out until my wife had the swamp drained (and the belly of the beast pumped, if that's what it took).

Okay...so what's "Elly" and would this event be open to a cachers residing in Tacoma? I have that evening free and would love to get out there with my GPS. It's been a few weeks! I have not done any night caching either, so that intrigues me as well...

WaywardSailorGirl, meet Elly, the owner of the Bloated Festering Head. :D Isn't he sweet? ;)

You are most welcome to join us, bring a flashlight and plan on wading through muck! :D

To paraphrase an old punch line, we don't have to run faster than the swamp monster. We just have to run faster than you. ;)

At this point I am 99% sure to be there.
I wish it was 99% for me but still only 50-50.

Pencil (well o.k. peck) me in for 99.5% destined to be there with bells on.

And I'd suuuure like those bells to be on my toes - clad in size whatever waders compliments of the cinco centavo lad!

I'm considering this. Gotta find my old pair of waterproof boots. Really, how deep is it?

If you take the correct way in, even with all the rain we have been getting, if it was up to your knees I would be shocked. I would guess about ankle to mid shin at the deepest.

Or you take the wrong way in which case the Jesters post is appropriate

I will see what I can do to get some time free that afternoon/evening. But its a long drive from Mountlake Terrace? Anybody up for a carpool?

I will be bringing hipboots, so that I will be nice and dry whether its ankle deep or knee deep.

I was thinking about going down after lunch sometime to located some of the other caches in the area. Then dinner someplace before the main event. I've heard that there are also some night caches in the area but havn't confirmed that. Would anyone else be interested in doing that too?

I still can't decide if its worth the trip just to bag one cache. I have all the ones in the Dupont area with the exception of the history hide, which takes some research. I will have to think about it.

Sure

I might be able to head out early, but likely not before 2:00

Then again... there's a special charm in the experience of savoring but a single legendary cache with a bunch of geozanies scrambling about in the dark of night.

Is it worth it to travel to log just one cache. Not always, but for this cache, especially if you're doing it in the dark with a bunch of other crazies (uhhmm, I mean cachers), yes it is. It is one experience you will never forget.

I debated last year if I wanted to go and am glad I did! It was a blast. Sadly, I have to skip on this year, have family coming into town. I'll be thinking about all of you while Ellyidan and Peg slowly move in and.....
