+zygote2k Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I see the server become busy every now ad then. Do all the Off-Topic posts slow down the server and the website? If so, why are they even allowed?
+Cache Viking Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I think it is the angst on this side of the wall that is the problem.
+tirediron Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 I see the server become busy every now ad then. Do all the Off-Topic posts slow down the server and the website? If so, why are they even allowed? OMG, Of course, too many posts in Off topic, that must be it! Off topic is the cause of all the problems at Groundspeak. I wonder why the admins never thought of that?
Elias Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 I see the server become busy every now ad then. Do all the Off-Topic posts slow down the server and the website? If so, why are they even allowed? The total number of posts in the forums doesn't really impact the performace of the server very much. The performance is influenced much more by the number of simultaneous users. Elias

+carleenp Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 yes, they do. so do on topic posts. and logs. jiminy, logs are the number one server slower-downer. let's get rid of those. I think cache pages take up the most space. How about we get rid of those too? That would sure help out all of us posting over in off topic....
+Renegade Knight Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 aren't the forums on a separate server? Yes but everything is connected by the pink flamingo conspiracy.
+carleenp Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 aren't the forums on a separate server? Darn! I was hoping nobody would notice the inconsistency in my sarcasm!

If so, why are they even allowed? Actually, all Off-Topic posters help support this site by contributing $3/month. If any forum should be shut down, it should be the ones with all the freeloaders.
