If it was written in English I might use it...but I am too lazy to try and figure out another language.

You can use Google's Language Tools to translate it.

Sorry, OP... doesn't look like anything I'd have the slightest bit of interest in. Templated cache pages with stock images on them? No thanks.

Not really sure why this would be useful to anyone, but click on the Union Jack to see an English version.

Thanks for the link to the translated page.

I spoke to soon, OP. My apologies. What you have put together there will probably be very useful to some. I thought that you simply provided templates with stock images. That is not the case. Images are optional, and can be uploaded or linked to. Sections, including your banner, can be turned on or off. Looks good.

That said... I see that you have cross-posted this all over throughout the forums. Not only is that bad practice, but it makes it that much more likely that your work will be seen as a commercial promotion.

Come on guys, it's not too difficult, I've managed the process in reverse on these forums for a few years now.

For a rough 'n' ready translating system from English to American just remove all extraneous letter Us and convert Ss to zeds then to zees.

Thinking in lazy people like you, we translated the tool to english also :)

I also provides a pretty good excuse for not using it. If it doesn't produce cache listings in your native languages it's not going to be very useful.

In any case, the OP looked like spam to me. IBTL.

You don't need any excuse for not using it. Just don't use it if you're not interested :)

Yeah! To fast to pull the trigger. It's a really useful tool, developed by portuguese Geocachers with no profit. It's a completely free tool.

I didn't cross-post this all over throughout the forums. As we provided also a french translation, I posted at the french section the same information written in french, as some of them are not able to understand english. Two different targets. I'm sorry I don't share your opinion this is a bad practice. Maybe the non-english speakers have more sensibility to understand this point of view :)

Now you just need a mobile log generator

We created also a multiple log generator just in portuguese language, but we're working on the translation to spanish, french and english. As soon as we finish the process, I'll share that tool with this forum also.

That was just a play off your forum topic title. It looks like a nice tool but I probably wouldn't use it only because I've been writing html since only a couple of months after Tim Berners-Lee created it in 1990.

The suggesting of producing some stock text from wikipedia is an interesting one. I'm doing a lot of work with semantic web technologies (primarily using a semantic web app developed in my department) and could see how, providing a minimum bit of information, such as lat/long values and a cache title, could be used to pull in information from dbpedia to populate text fields.

Link to comment

Not to entirely down-play the OP, but a fluffy cache-page does not a quality cache make.

I always appreciate it when the cache owner goes the extra mile to provide additional background information on why they placed the cache.

I suspect that this tool will result in more elaborate cookie-cutter cache pages that are as meaningless as those without all the fluff.

I could be wrong.

It happened before.

Link to comment

Actually I feel the other way. Those who take the extra time and effort to spice up there cache page (whether it's a good story, a couple pics, or html) usually also put some extra effort into placing better caches. I'm not saying this is always true and I'm not saying I haven't found a great cache with a plain jane page, but I think there is a small correlation.

I really like the pages and while this tool does make the listings the same the examples shown all have good write ups and pics that let me know exactly what I'm doing. That means more than the HTML stuff which is just icing on the cake. I think that is a good metaphor. Someone could use this to ice a piece of Styrofoam (it will look great but have no filling) while others will use it to ice a very delicious, moist, home made cake (looks great and has lots of flavor on the inside as well).
