Albion, MI And we have a WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tod hated micros, he'd not even get out if we visited more than a couple during our searches. KAboom and I are much the same, we're just not fond of those little containers too small for even a pencil...which is exactly what ever single cache nearby us was! After 6 micros, we'd had enough, we just came on home, the only regular was the kayak cache which I never even saw since I let KAboom retrieve it (too much nettles for my liking). We used to hide micros, not anymore... Coin info coming tomorrow, I should have been sleeping already! CONGRATS!!! Quote Link to comment

As I watch and listen, I hear Stephanie Abrams talking about cell phone usage while driving, she brought up the question whether cell phones should be banned while driving and asked for feedback on facebook! I would ask that anyone who believes as I do that cell phones are a MAJOR distraction to drivers to PLEASE visit Facebook page for Abrams and Bettes and chime in! I have sent them a nice note through facebook explaining my stance on this as well as introducing them to Todie's Wild Ride...I even offered to send Stephanie a coin to be entered in the release! As I stated before, there really isn't a fair way to award the coins in a race format since we've alowed entries all along, so I am going to do random draws from all of the coins in the list minus new releases for the latest round! I have a few (25 if I counted correctly) coins to hand out, if you see your name, please shoot me an email with your address so I can get the prize off to you! Last thing, I will hold back ONE LACKEY coin, I wnat to do a vote on who you think should get this coin. Usyoopers for releasing all these coins??? WSR with all that help he did and all those cointests? Sivota who gave many coins to other geocachers (including me)??? Even if you already have it , even if you are the one who is giving the prices (that is why I say... the funny is...), a framed lackeys coin with the font of all the names of the geocachers who participated in the race the reason of the race and of course the photo of Tod, would be a great price for you my friend!!! A new thread with cointests is always good for the eye.... some geocachers may see all these posts and believe that it is a very old thread without much to see... or even they may get confused if they have to see the rules of the race etc! Now, since almost all of the coins of that race are out travelling, or they are pocket coins for us.... shall they be included in the new thread? If not... what will happen to the pocket coins of the race? The others will continue to travell and spread their message until they reach their goal and return or a thief.... Quote Link to comment

Keeping us all up to date on all the coins released has been a huge undertaking and I believe they are deserving for all the hard work they have put into this mission/race. My second choice would have to be Write Shop Robert. I feel that WSR should be considered for all the cointests he has set up and kept track of, and for designing, minting and giving away all of those look twice coins. And lastly, Rockin' Roddy! If not for the bond he shared with Todie; we (as a community) would probably never have gotten together and put forth so much effort into spreading the message of safety for everyone on the roads. Having lost a few close friends myself, I know how rough it can be on a person. Instead of getting depressed or even angry at others, Roddy has turned those negative feelings into positive energy and started this whole thing. I believe that if just one persons life is saved because of all of our efforts with releasing these coins with all these great messages, then this mission can be claimed as a success. Usyoopers have won this every time we've run it, maybe we'll see some stiff competition on this run? Coins must conform to the Todie's Wild Ride guidelines outlined in the first post of this thread please! ALSO, a side cointest, lets get some more interest in bike awareness, lets see who can invite the most newb participants! You can gift coins, you can invite friends and anyone else, even if they must make a new account for this purpose (we're not talking making an account for an existing participant either, please play honestly here)! I want to get more people to help us spread the word, so invite someone who shows interst in a log on one of your coins, invite someone you meet at an event....invite anyone and everyone! This too will end on the 12th. What are we playing for? Well, I do have some AE Team Rod & Tod w/KAboom personals which have not been seen by anyone save KAboom, Mike Atwell and myself! Remember, I will be gfting coins here as well, so there are ways to get involved in the latest push even if you can't afford a coin! Maine has always had community service announcements about seat belts but today it has been expanded to include helmets. The add says while accidents might be unavoidable, choosing not to wear a seat belt or a helmet is a tragic choice. One you may not live through. It was so nice seeing that they are including helmets. Wear a helmet when on a motorcycle and a seat belt when in a vehicle. Quote Link to comment

While the race never did come about (adding new entrants as we went made this impossible, but added to the main goal of getting the word out about bike awareness), I think we still had fun watching the travels and reading the logs....didn't we? I would like to add that I felt the fun and excitement the cointests added was great and a fun way to send out more coins to travel, I did not mean for it to detract from the mission in any way and apologize if they bothered anyone. Maine Family Posted July 25, 2009 Share Posted July 25, 2009 I have had fun and have learned a lot through Todie's Wild Ride. It has made me more aware and I do pay attention a whole lot more. Still sometimes find I have driven to work or home on auto pilot a few times. So I change my route now every few days. Was surprised that some states, Maine included, decided not to take up the cell phone, texting issue. Congratulations to all the winners. It has been a long day and I am confused. So lets see if I understand this. When the 2009 Todie's Wild RIde starts it will be on a different thread. This thread will remain open so cachers can still activate coins for Todie's Wild Ride and people can see how the list grows and makes it easier to find the coins for Todie's Wild Ride. If someone wants to do a contest to give coins they can still do it here? The new releases at the bottom of the list is for the contest ending August 12 or is that the new release for the 2009 race? Thinking back to when Todie's Wild Ride started it has evolved. It seemed to start out with who was worse bikers or drivers. But now it is just about everyone being aware. Reading through some of the logs it is like people are realizing motorist and bikers can coexist together. This was in our local paper: gleaming Harleys — enough to cover all of Penobscot Avenue by Central Street and most of Medway Road — rode from Millinocket Municipal Airport in a parade through downtown Millinocket led by the Pelletier family of the Discovery Channel’s “American Loggers” TV show before hitting the Golden Road. The line was estimated at 4 miles long. Hundreds of people jammed downtown sidewalks to cheer them along. Bikes are every where. Look twice for bikes. Save a life. Quote Link to comment

I mean... if for example I release a coin today or tomorrow... it will not be in the new race?? Will I have to wait until the new race start? Oh... something else... I got new emails that 2 of my racers are probably gone too (not in the caches and they are missing for almost a month).... is it possible istead of a real coin to release a proxy coin with the tracking number clearly writen and of course to write in the title that it is a proxy??? This is just a thought for now... ok? Huh... I haven't marked the coins as stollen yet, hoping that someone took them and forgot to log them, but they are gone for about a month or more! maybe I will keep them for a week like that and then.... AE stands for Artist Edition, we had our personal made and received a few AE coins. They have some nice differences which really makes them unique! None of them have been sold nor will they ever likely be, I will use some more as gifts and prizes and maybe trade a very few (I don't have very many anyways). Quote Link to comment

At first this thread was really overwhelming, and I have to admit I have not read pages (approximately) 6-250. But I got the sense of it, and I jumped in when I could. I mean... if for example I release a coin today or tomorrow... it will not be in the new race?? Will I have to wait until the new race start? Yes, this release is now over and we'll have a new one up very shortly which will include the coins released recently in the new release. Any coins released at this time will be included, and the next release will be an actual race. I am working on prize catagories, but the top prize will be for the one with the most miles!! I want to keep the releases going after the end of the entry date for the new race, so I'm oping we can keep this thread alive and host occassional release contests like we have before (who can release the most or release 3 coins and get entered in a race etc... The main goal of all of this is to get bike awareness spread around and coins are a great way to do this! However, this is only a part of what we could do, I will be hosting another safety presentation for a group soon, and am in contact with a host of other groups including the Girl and Boy Scouts and other kids clubs! I would encourage ANYONE to try this, it is MAJORLY rewarding! It's simple and can be done for next to nothing or get as elaborate as you desire! I plan to take a bunch of hotdogs and snacks with me on this one, cheap and fun! There are other things being worked on, and I am ALWAYS open to suggestions, so please share any thoughts on this!! Remember, cachers are a small group compared to the rest of the world, we should try to reach more than just the cachers if possible!
