Micro-dingette to The Forester. Well spotted.

Sorry Tony (2202) but it *is* Shaun of the Dead, not Hot Fuzz.

Hints on the ones not yet named:

No.1 - Not from Star Trek The Motion Picture, but from a sci-fi movie released the same year.

No.2 - Gangster movie.

No.6 - Chick-Flick

Well done Alex! To recap:

1 - Alien (Edgemaster)

2 - Get Carter (SlytherineAlex)

3 - Elf (Nediam)

4 - Local Hero (The Forester)

5 - Shaun of the Dead (Team Balders/Nediam)

6 - ? - The person to name this classic chick-flick gets the Ding!

Sorry, I was away yesterday and only just got home, having had to make an unplanned trip to Halifax.

Anyway, it's a 1990 film.

Pretty woman?

Pretty woman?
I wanted to say, "Big mistake. Huge", but as you're right, I can't :anitongue:

Well done chizu. Dingtastic!

Hmmm interesting, given that Pretty Woman is Ms Chizu's favourite film, but didn't recognise the still.... thought I'd guess anyway since I knew it was released in 1990.

OK- next question: Since transfrmers is soon to be released, name all of Soundwave's 5 cassettes from the original toy release.

Rumble, Frenzy, Lazerbeak, Buzzsaw and Ravage (so a collector colleague tells me anyway)

That's a DING to you! Lazerbeak and Buzzsaw were transformed into birds, Frenzy and Rumble were brothers who transformed into robotas and Ravage transformed into a jaguar.

Ok, sticking with a theme and hopefully an easy question so I can go back to lurking in the shadows.

Which distinctively voiced actor provided the voice of Jazz in the 1984 Transformers cartoons?

I remember reading an article about the Tobacco sponsors just before the recent Aussie GP

My question is

Name 3 common items that use Cold Cathode Tubes

Remember No Googling

Carlos

#1 - Neon lighting

#2 - NIXIE displays (used for displaying numbers before LEDs and LCD etc)

Well you learn something new everyday.

I had no idea about Nixie Tubes.

Sorry Rutson...

I was looking for such common things as Laptops, LCD TVs, Scanners, PDAs and Faxmachines to name a few.

Who wins the Ding? Crazy Druid with his laptop or Team Balders with flourescent tubes (are they not neon lighting anyway?)

I'll toss a coin "flip".

Team Balders gets the ding

Thanks for the ding.

BTW - Neon (those flashing lights outside the chipshop etc.) are not the same as lfuorescent lamps - a common misconception

My first ever question!

How long was the HUNDRED YEARS' WAR?

Are conventional fluorescent tubes not hot cathode devices?

Technically, yes. I was, perhaps, thinking of the instant start fluorescents which employ a cold cathode to get the discharge started before the cathode heats up and then acts as a conventional hot-cathode device.
