BRTango
Am I the only one having the problem with Yellow Pins with the new Google Earth? Nope it started with the latest beta release. hopefully, when they get around to releasing the final version, it will all be back to normal. Forget what I just wrote. It did start with the latest release... but looking at their website, it looks like version 4 is out of beta and is in final release. So... I dunno what/when/how/who will fix the annoying yellow pins. Edited February 14, 2007 by BRTango Link to comment
+Cobber99
Yeah, it's not just you - I get them randomly and then I zoom a bit and the cache icons reappear. I wonder what causes this bug? Link to comment
+ibycus
Same thing seen here, since upgrading to latest release. Don't know who's fault it is... Link to comment
+Big Matt and Shell
I noticed it as well once I upgraded a few months ago but counted it as a small price to pay for the features of the "new" GE. To be honest I had almost forgotten about it until you mentioned it now. I mainly upload GPX files out of GSAK rather than relying on the GE KML file. Link to comment
+Team Teuton
GoogleEarthTweaker will turn your PQ results into a much nicer package. Google it for lots of D/L sites. http://tinyurl.com/2adpwm Link to comment

+a_friend_of_dorothy
So there's no fix for it yet if I just want to view caches on the map (not those that I have downloaded from a PQ)? Link to comment
+a_friend_of_dorothy
Anyone? *echo* Link to comment
+Cobber99
You can see them on your GE map just fine, the issue is that sometimes (for me about 50% of my browsing time in GE) the pretty cache icons change to generic yellow pins. Link to comment
+a_friend_of_dorothy
Yup that's what happens and I was wondering if there is a fix out for this yet Edited March 19, 2007 by a_friend_of_dorothy Link to comment
+Inder
Same Problem here. It seems to depend on the zoom-factor. But it's not reproducable. Link to comment
+grapa
So is there any solution for the yellow pin problem? For me, the yellow pins reload and update all the time in interaction with the website. However, I have a set of nice cache icons somewhere in Google Earth and that never updates. It just sits there. My feeling is, the corresponding KML file does not have an automatic update associated to it. Link to comment
robertlipe
It's not a problem in Google Earth. A long time ago, Groundspeak updated the KML to try to take advantage of new features in Earth 4 and wound up breaking the KML. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=2932718 It's been reported about a bazillion times in the forums, so it's apparently not made it to the top of the bug fix list yet. OpinioNate
I just looked and had the same problem with the pins. Adding this to the list now - sorry for the delay! Link to comment
+grapa
Come on - this bug is so old now and still not fixed. Makes me wonder what I pay my premium membership for. Considering the really horrible geocaching.com search interface, this is my main mode of search. It's annoying to see it broken. Link to comment

Considering the really horrible geocaching.com search interface, this is my main mode of search. It's annoying to see it broken. I would highly suggest using the Geocaching.com Google Map linked from every cache page in the map links area. You can zoom in and zoom out to an extent and can also drag the map around. I am not sure if you have seen that. Here is a link from your hidden cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/gmnearest.a...amp;lng=9.98333 Link to comment

+Lightning Jeff
I would highly suggest using the Geocaching.com Google Map linked from every cache page in the map links area. That's a nice feature, but not the same as viewing the caches in Google Earth. Is the suggestion that the KML - broken for over a year, apparently - will never be fixed? Link to comment
+Nakedbamboo
This also happens to me, however, I have had great results with Google earth tweaker. It is a very nice program to turn a PQ into a KML with lots of different options. One thing I have noticed about the GE KML from Groundspeak is that the coordinates are way off for the caches. Open a cache and copy/paste the coordinates into the GE fly to box and watch how far away it is from the icon. I haven't figured out why that would happen. I would highly suggest using the Geocaching.com Google Map linked from every cache page in the map links area. You can zoom in and zoom out to an extent and can also drag the map around. I am not sure if you have seen that. There are many reasons to use GE that are not available on GC.com. For example, I routinely use the ruler feature to measure distances and also the borders feature to see where county borders are located. I wish the maps on GC.com were as interactive as GE. Maybe it's a minor issue, but let's be accurate. This is not just an aesthetic issue. The icon tells you what kind of cache it is. Link to comment

+Fish Below The Ice
I finally tracked down this issue. Our next code release will have this fix in it. Good news. Thanks. Is there any chance that you could remove the random offset that's applied to the results in GE while you're at it? The Google Maps interface returns accurate results so there's really no reason that I can think of for the Google Earth results to be deliberately wrong. Link to comment

+The Bolas Heathens
Thanks for fixing the pins in Google Earth - it now looks how it should and is useful. I notice Wherigo caches are not showing for some reason. I've tried several locations I know there is a Wherigo cache (including one of our own) and no trace of them is shown in Google Earth - not even a yellow push pin. Link to comment
+Corey
The fix was implemented moments ago. Enjoy! So... with this new update we seem to have a personal "key" for the KML. Now PMs (like me) can see members-only caches (pretty sure this wasn't the case before?). I'm curious, then, why the locations are still randomly offset. Link to comment
