  1. I have 30 spectacular maps of the Coachella Valley area in southern California. They work great and I worked hard in getting them ready to publish... This is still a problem for me. I cannot upload and I have no clue why. Bus was able to upload one of my .mp files no problem. I would like to up them in my name, but am stuck here. If the http:// upload option worked - that might help. I donno - any thoughts here?
  2. ohhh yeah! That's strait SEXY! Many thanks for the work you have done! I will have more from Mecca Canyon after this weekend
  3. The trails look great! I love it when people put in decent descriptions! I'll work on that this week. To be clear we want: 1) Sign Post - Icon: Some sort of trail sign. 2) Junction - Icon: Yellow street sign w/ 4way intersection 3) POI - Icon: Magnifying glass? Exclamation Point? -Geoff Yeah - perfect. I just think it would be sweet for hikes as people tend to mark those POIs. Wow - thanks!
  4. Aww yeah Geoff - beat ya to your shameless plug I posted a few trails earlier this week and will have more after the weekend. Can you please add "Sign Post", "Junction" and "POI" as waypoint types to chose from? I have all these question marks on waypoints that I chose for those good reasons. RAD site!
  5. How's it coming along? He he - if I only had that kind of time I have been using so many different sites - one to host and display the track data, one for pictures (Flickr is amazing especially with the new feature that reads my coords off my EXIF data), and another to host waypoints, another for maps. Eeeek - if only this beast could happen
  6. Yeah - I'm really scratching my head here. I am doing one file at a time, yes. And I do this progression exactly: So you go to the site then click on "your account"? Log in Choose your action Add new map Map name(Greater Coachella Valley 1 of 30) Description: 30 15' maps from 34deg 30' N to 33deg N and 117deg 15' W to 115deg 15' W. There are no waterways defined, just detailed topo data for desert hikers. Catagory(Topographic) Country(USA) Region(California) Allowed uses(Not Public) Modified versions(Gotta pub it on this site) Homepage(http://maps.ericvforsberg.com) I rename the .mp file "source.mp" and zip it. I have tried calling the .zip "01.zip" and "source.zip" on separate tries. check Upload Local Zip ERROR
  7. Thanks - I tried emailing you but the attachment at 12Mb was too large for your account so I PM'd ya a url where I put the archive on my website for you. I hate email sometimes. Anyways I got your file and uploaded it to mapcenter. You can see it under recent uploads. I called it western desert. I uploaded it from a pc. I will try and upload it here from a mac to see if it makes a difference. Not sure why you are having problems? Anyways..I just uploaded the same file here from a mac and called it western2. No problems at all. I used firefox for the mac. Maybe try it again? Are you trying to do more than one file at once? Good lord - I can't think of what I am doing wrong as I tried it on Mac and PC with IE and Firefox. Maybe it's my ISP or my firewall... hmmm, I'll do some tinkering. REALLY appreciate the help - I can't wait to get all 30 of these bad boys up there Re uploading my mas to http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/: Yeah, I'm really confused as to why this isn't working for me. I have now tried at home and at work on a Mac and PC using Firefox, IE and Safari (Mac) and I get a "Connection has been reset" error every time. Obviously it is working to upload for many other users at the site so seriously I am just at a loss. The same file worked for you so it's not the file itself. Agh.
  8. Issue I have come upon is that, if I am not downloading the Active Track, I don't get the time data. Is this normal? Why doesn't it save time data to saved tracks?
  9. I really appreciate your dialog on here fellas. I learned a couple things that have been HUGE for me! 1. I prefer to save tracks to my Micro SD card as I want the best possible resolution for tracks. I am publishing trail data and so having the ability to zoom and show alternate routes up a 45 deg bank, etc. is great for my needs. 2. It sucks that I can't so with the gpx data on my card, what I can with track data that is stored to the unit's memory! What GreatCanadian does tracking back with tracks? Yeah, that would be useful for me at times to be sure. 90 % of the time I will opt to save to card and get higher detail, but that I need t think in those terms due to the limitations of the unit/firmware is sad. I really appreciate the help! I got teh software working and now have these amazing tracks that I am associating pictures with for POIs. I have to use 4 programs to do all that I want, but its not too shabby
  10. You can see them on your GE map just fine, the issue is that sometimes (for me about 50% of my browsing time in GE) the pretty cache icons change to generic yellow pins.

  13. Wow! Good to know, thanks! I have changed the setting to save it to my 1G Micro SD card (glad I have only done some short hikes so far, but yeah - I wondered about the lack of date/time info). Will I need to do anything different in terms of getting the track data off the card as opposed to the active memory tho? I read that it behaves differently in my manual and about how you need to get the .gpx files manually - any downsides to this that you have experienced? The author of the program and I figured it out. Had to do with an option in the software, whew.
  14. redneck, From what I have seen, using the instructions provided at the top of this thread yields maps with much more TOPO detail than the NG product contains. Why not get the maps from the USGS site and run them that way?
  15. If you have a highspeed connection(it saves time this way) you can upload your .mp file(zipped) to http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/ and they will compile your file to .img. I load a bunch of .mp files in the evening and then the next day I download the .img file from them. Just another way to do it and saves time and shares your maps easily. I have 25 of my 30 maps done and expect to have the rest done by tomorrow. I want to share them to the world and so http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/ seems perfect, however for the past couple weeks I have had the same issue ... it times out on upload. I have tried from work and from home. On a Mac and PC and with IE and Firefox - same result each time. There is no documentation on that site for what kind of file to upload. One of the FAQ's mentions naming the source .mp file source.mp and so I did that and zipped it as source.zip. But it times out every time. Am I doing something wrong? I have emailed the site designer and also asked for membership to their Yahoo group to see if I can get an answer there.
  16. Thanks. Yeah, I'm doing what I am supposed to do on the software end - that I know. So maybe I have indeed found a bug in his software. He has been hyper cool about working on it and so I thought I would ask here to be sure I wasn't recording incorrectly.
  17. So my goal is to record my hikes as tracks and mark waypoints along the way for POI's and photos to then publish all this data online as detailed trail pages with a track to DL and waypoints that associate with POI's. I am using my Garmin etrex Vista cx and have been doing this pre-hike: 1. Main Menu->Tracks->Clear 2. Main Menu->Trip Computer->Reset Then I begin my hike and when I have a POI, I click the stick and name the Waypoints like that. When I am done, I go to Main Menu->Tracks->Save Once home, I connect my GPS to my Mac and use Loadmytracks to import the data into Trailrunner. Trailrunner shows my track great, but the problem is that it shows only two Waypoints - one for the start and one for the end ... my Waypoints along the track don't import. I am in contact with the Trailrunner author to see if this is an issue on his end, but also wanted to inquire here to see if I am doing this correctly on my end insofar as how I am operating the Garmin. Any help or insight would be much appreciated!
  18. I get the turns as waypoints on my Garmin, however that is useless as they don't show as an actual Route on the Garmin...
  19. So I have a number of routes that I have in Google Earth and I have tried saving them as .kml files and then using GPSBabel+ to send them to my Garmin, however they do not show up. Has anyone with a Mac had success using Google Earth to get routes into their GPS?
  20. Figured as much. Well, problem is that their server keeps timing out on me 1/2 thru the upload. Pooo Did you compress the file into a zip file? If so how large is your zip? The only time I have had problems is when I forgot to compress the .mp into a zip folder. Ya - named the .mp file "source.mp" and zipped it to an archive of 10.72Mb.... I'll try her again today because if it works, wow would that ever save time on my 15 arc dry maps! It should load fine then. I have loaded larger ones I think like 32Mb zipped with no problems. Could just be today... but HEY! I have 4 completed 15' .IMG files already and they are beautiful
  21. Wow this thread needs to be pinned. Great list - thanks all!
