+Nerves
Sorry to butt in on the conversation but since you folks have done the APE cache I wanted to ask for advice. I'll be in the Seattle area Oct. 8th and want to do the APE cache on the 9th. Should I expect some adverse conditions (i.e. snow)? Do I need any gear? Can you give me some ideas about what to expect? I haven't been to WA since the late 70's - early 80's so I can't remember the terrain in that particular area. I appreciate anyone's input - thanks. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
That is probably a bit early for snow in the pass so that should no be too much of a concern. If you park at Hyak in the Iron Horse State Park parking area, the terrain is basically flat. There is a slight downslope to the cache. That trail goes through the tunnel. The tunnel is about 2.5 miles or a bit less. The cache is about 0.5 miles beyond the tunnel. The tunnel will likely be windy with a cold wind blowing generally west to east. Bring lights. Also there are caches at each end of the tunnel as well as one in the middle. Quote Link to comment
+Nerves
Thanks WeightMan. Sounds like I can do this alone since I can't convince my non-geocaching friends to do it with me Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
So who wants to make the final decision so we can solidify plans? I'm game for either Tiger Mt or one of the suggestions from MA - Hard to make a decision from here. Anybody want to take the ball and make this happen? Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
My suggestion was Scout Lake which was place by MA. Any of the others would be fine as well. I would suggest that Kealia pick one and we go with it. Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
Ok, I know MA owns Scout Lake, just found another on the list and the second to the top (don't have the page open now) was DNF'd a couple of times recently. Based on that I say we narrow it down to: Tiger Mountain, Mt Defiance or Ollalie Berry Lake (right)? Votes from there? Quote Link to comment
+LittleBlue
I'm just a follower- haven't done any of those caches and they're all good to me. Surely *someone* will step up and decide! Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Of course my vote is for Mt Defiance, well because I own it. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
Do I actually get to meet 'the Nolenator"? Will there be Frito Pies? Quote Link to comment
+Kiersolvd
If the weather cooperates, which it might, Mt Defiance would be great. I've been to Lake Ollalie but could go back - it does require a little bushwack so if it is wet, you will get wet too. I suggest we get an early start - arrive at the trail head at 8? I'm in Bellevue and could meet anywere there to carpool up. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
Unless Nolenator is going to come along, I don't think he should get a vote. What do you say, Nols? My preference would probably be do to some of those on Tiger. Quote Link to comment
MarcusArelius
Mt Defiance sounds good. We could grab Mason lake along the way. Also who's callings depending if you want to take the long or short route.\ Weather is going to be dicey. It's been sunny for the last several days but last Saturday you'd have thought Rita came through. Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Hmm... I am going to have to bail on Iron Goat trail tommorow because I got too much to do at work. Grumble, grumble. Friday might work out though. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
+Hula Bum
whoops Edited October 6, 2005 by Hula Bum Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
So is it Mt Defiance? Let's have a final vote: My Defiance Tiger Mountain I'll go with the winner - is that fair? Just so I know, how long a drive is it from Bellevue to Mt Defiance trailhead/meeting place - an hour? Just trying to gauge. I'll be offline until tomorrow night when I look for where we're meeting. Looking forward to meeting somewhere! Quote Link to comment
+Prying Pandora
Yikes! Mt. Defiance has a 4.5-star terrain rating! That has me a little intimidated, so I'm leaning toward Tiger. Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
That's one vote for Tiger. Night y'all. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
I've already cast my vote for Tiger Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Yep Mt. Defiance is a grunt, PP ya know I like to get elevated. What part of Tiger Mountain are you guys going to be on? Still hopeful... Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
+LittleBlue
I've hardly cached Tiger at all- sounds like we can include more people that way. Anybody got a plan? And I'd love to do Mt. Defiance sometime if people are game- my ankle is finally healed and legs back in shape to haul myself up and down . Quote Link to comment
+Prying Pandora
Tick tock, time is running out so we'd better finalize plans! It looks like we're doing Tiger Mtn. Where's the best place to meet? Tradition Plateau? I may not be able to get to the TH until 8:30 because my van is spending its third day in the shop tomorrow and I have to take Plaidguy to work. Is 8:30 an OK start time for everyone? I have a Green Trails map of Tiger Mtn that might come in handy. I'll bring it. Edited October 7, 2005 by Prying Pandora Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Poor guy HAS to go to work. Somebody make a decision and if I can't fix my eye problem I will be there. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
Well, it sounds like we have a plan. 8:30 at Little Blue's cache sounds fine with me. Shall we go where the day takes us from there? Quote Link to comment
+Kiersolvd
I'll be there. I havn't been up the mountain since I started caching. Quote Link to comment
MarcusArelius
The 4.5 Mt Definance is out for me. The wife squealed to the oral surgon so no hiking tommorrow for me. That rules out a 4.5 Mtn hike but hey isn't a 2 star, or lower really just a walk ? There will be afternoon sun breaks, a late start would avoid the morning rain showers. Anytime before noon would be good for me. Maybe I can sneak out while see's still sleeping. Hey I see some Tiger caches showed up since the last time I was there! Quote Link to comment
+AndrewRJ
So are you just doing the Tradition lake area or going up the mountain? I may stop by for a while but I will have to leave by noon. Quote Link to comment
+Prying Pandora
I'm hoping to go up the mountain, because I have the tradition plateau pretty well cleaned out. I'm happy to do whatever the group wants, though! I do have a hard and fast deadline on quitting though. I must be back at the Costco in Issaquah before 5:00 so I can pick up Plaidguy and rescue my van before the car shop closes. They'd better have it ready this time! Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
Gang - I just arrived home in California after flying up to Seattle this afternoon. My wife and daughter have been home sick and this morning I caught whatever they had. I thought it would be nothing but it got progressively worse as the day progressed and I had just enough energy after my meeting today to come home. I'm off to bed now and you all have my sincerest apologies for not making tomorrow; but this was out of my control. I promise on my next trip to bring some sig shot glasses and other sig items (possiby some coins) for the trouble. Enjoy the hike and hope this doesn't turn into the flu. Again, I'm sorry.... +WeightMan
Sorry to hear that. We will miss you. I'm still planning on being there at 8:30. Quote Link to comment

MarcusArelius
Weightman, AndrewRJ, Prying Pandora, Little BLue, Keirsold and I made it today. Weightman and AndrewRJ had to leave early but the rest of us went on up to the west summit we hit 5-6 caches along the way. It only rained for a few minutes and we had some sun breaks on the way down. It was a good day. Too bad you had to miss it. But we left a bunch of caches unfound for the next time. +Kiersolvd
Hey, just a report on our activities in your absence. Weightman, AndrewRJ, Little Blue, Prying Pandora, Marcus Arileus, and & I were there. We did a couple of the caches on the plateau before heading up Tiger Mt. We all got up to the Talus caves a third of the way up. PP, MA, LB, and I continued on up to the top. The weather was cool with broken clouds low on the mountain. The sun peaked through a couple times and a couple drops of rain were felt. A good day for a hike. Wished things were different that you could have been with us. See you next time. +LittleBlue
Another beautiful day for a hike- thought I'd log it here since I'm not doing so well logging the actual caches... Met up at the High Point trailhead at 8:30 and headed off for 7 hours of hiking and caching. We had a hard time finding some of them, including a very elusive terracache, but in the end we had no dnfs . Wish you could have been able to come, kealia- hopefully next time! Glad you were able to be with your family. But Marcus wins the prize of the day for strangest thing found while trying to find a cache... Quote Link to comment
+Prying Pandora
But Marcus wins the prize of the day for strangest thing found while trying to find a cache... Strange indeed! +LittleBlue
I thought that was geohashing.com! Actually, we saw several indications of good times had while we were looking for that cache! Quote Link to comment

+Kealia
Yep, that time again. Hopefully this time I don't get sick the morning of hte trip and have to come right back home! Client meeting set for 11/28 (Monday) in Bellevue so I'm thinking that I'll come in either Saturday night or Sunday morning. May even convince Hula Bum to join me again. Just tossing this out early folks. Will be in touch and keep this updated regularly. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
Sorry, but I will be in California at that time. Quote Link to comment
+LittleBlue
So what day do you think you might be interested in caching? (It takes me a while to get kid-watching coverage for my girls...) Quote Link to comment
