TotemLake
Yep, that time again. Hopefully this time I don't get sick the morning of hte trip and have to come right back home! Client meeting set for 11/28 (Monday) in Bellevue so I'm thinking that I'll come in either Saturday night or Sunday morning. May even convince Hula Bum to join me again. Just tossing this out early folks. Will be in touch and keep this updated regularly. Ooooooo a weekend shot? You have my attention. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Yeah, thought the w/e might make things easier this time. CURRENT plan would be to cache on Sunday. Lord knows my client has changed plans many times before so we'll see what happens over the next week or so. Quote Link to comment
Prying Pandora
I work on Sundays so I'll have to miss it this time. Have fun, y'all. Quote Link to comment

The Jester
Sounds like fun (again!). Any thought for trying a snow cache? Quote Link to comment
LandRover
Sounds like fun (again!). Any thought for trying a snow cache? Snow caching can be fun, so long as you go prepared to cache in the snow. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
To be honest, I think I'll have to pass on the snow cache. I've done a couple in the Lake Tahoe (CA/NV) area and they were fun - but it would require me to pack much more gear. And Hula Bum gets cold very easily. That grass skirt doesn't provide much warmth. Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
Snow levels are currently as low as 4,000 rising to 8,000. We'll just have to keep an eye on local conditions closer to the arrival date. Quote Link to comment
The Jester
That grass skirt doesn't provide much warmth. It will if you light it on fire! I really didn't think a snow cache would work, just a thought. So, how about a hydro-cache? Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
So what's the word? Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Just spoke to my client to confirm things (this morning) and it looks they are being difficult again (caching wise that is). Looks like I'm coming in on Monday afternoon for meetings and dinner and then staying Monday night for Tuesday morning meetings. I'll be free for lunch Tuesday as my flight isn't until 5:15 but it looks like caching/hiking is out . Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
Well that sucks. Even though I'm a long mile from that evil cache you called for help on, I'll likely be in Burlington setting up a 4th office. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Oh yes, again. Coming up on Jan 25th for afternoon meetings and a POSSIBLE early dinner. So I'll be available for: 1) Drink(s) Wed night (25th) for sure 2) Possibly dinner on the 25th (Wed) - final plans TBD 3) Caching on the 26th (Thursday) If anybody's around and available, would love to get together. The last few trips have been tough but this should be better. Maybe dinner plans for a group on the 25th? If I can't make it in time to eat, I can surely be there afterwards for a drink and some chatting. Thursdays tough, I know. But if anybody wants to go do some caching...... I'll be staying in Bellevue at the Embassy Suites. Quote Link to comment
hydnsek
I'm in for the dinner/drinks on 25th evening! Can't play hooky from work on Thursday, tho. Quote Link to comment

The Jester
My calendar looks open for both. It's been a while. Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
I'm sure that I can at least swing the dinner. Maybe even a sick day on Thursday! Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
cough cough sniffle Quote Link to comment
WeightMan
Since I don't have to play hooky (being retired and all), I should be available for both dates. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Ah, the old crew! Sweet. I could use a drink after the last day or so I've had . Looking forward to this. I'll bring goodies from home with me too. We can finalize plans soon but anybody want to throw any ideas for a dinner/drink place and/or caching? Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
I have comp time coming to me, but your visit is also in the middle of fitting up an office in Issaquah. I may not be able to make it for caching, but I can certainly be around for drinks. Quote Link to comment

I'll bring goodies from home with me too. We can finalize plans soon but anybody want to throw any ideas for a dinner/drink place and/or caching? What price range do you/we want? There are any number of pizza places around (low end); if we work our way north (from your hotel) there's TGI Fridays in Kirkland; if we work our way south there's Jimmy Mac's Roadhouse in Renton (and a nice night cache nearby that should be up again by then); east is XXX in Issaquah; there are a few Olive Garden's around if Italian is wanted; or, the local cacher hangout, Red Robin. Of couse, there are many more options too... Quote Link to comment
WeightMan
Armondo's in Renton is a nice place and even closer to that night cache. Quote Link to comment
Hula Bum
Kealia's wife here, and you have to do Armando's! And I'll make him tell you why! LOL (yeah kealia, that's punishment for getting to go have fun without me!) Quote Link to comment

Kealia
Not that I know. I know seating in there is tough - maybe someplace like a pizza place would be better with more open seating? Any ideas for a Thursday hike? Quote Link to comment
WeightMan
Any ideas for a Thursday hike? Suggestions need to keep in mind the current water levels in the rivers and lakes as well as the snow level. A recent log on the APE cache said there was about 12-14 inches of snow on the Iron Horse trail and the Annette Lake trail was very muddy. Quote Link to comment
Shop99er
Well Crap!! I'll be coming off my 9th straight day, and won't be in any shape to go to Bellview, Seattle, or anywhere much past Port Orchard. Quote Link to comment
CENT5
I happen to be off Thursday the 26th and if the better half doesn't burn my kitchen pass I'd be up for some caching. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
FWIW - I won't be leaving until THursday evening (5:00ish) so I have all day..... Quote Link to comment
The Jester
Here's a suggestion: Vashon Island. I know it's not a hike, but with a group the cost of getting there isn't too bad. The ferries run often enough there shouldn't be a schedule problem. Currently there are nine caches on the island. Also several in Lincoln Park near the ferry dock. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
As always I'll defer to the group for the decision. I'll look these up by searching for Vashon Island. If there's no cache with that in the name, lemme know a GC# to look at. Quote Link to comment

WeightMan
I have not done any of the caches on Vashon so that would work for me. There are at least five caches in Lincoln Park, but the best reason to visit there is that there is parking available at the coords for Tide Pool. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Hmmm, a ferry (I assume) across Puget Sound to an island and some caches... So far this sounds pretty cool. Quote Link to comment
The Jester
I've done some playing around with Streets & Trips and came up with this route: First and last stop is the ferry dock. 2. GCCCFF 3. GCQ8G7 4. GC5903 - a bit of a walk 5. GCKJ5J - 2 step multi 6. GCK8CW 7. GCNHBX 8. GCCD06 9. GCCD07 10. GCG5N8 - short walk Timing: Throwing in times from 15 to 30 minutes per cache (most at 15, the noted ones above at 30), S&T says about 5 hours. Assuming kealia is leaving from the ferry dock to the airport, we need to catch the 3:25 boat back (arrive at the dock about 3) getting back about 3:45. This means we take either the 9:05 or 9:25 boat out. The schedule can be seen at this site. Cost: $13.40 for car & driver, $4 for each passenger. There is one cache next to the mainland ferry dock - GCKP2X. Quote Link to comment
Allanon
LandRover, Podlians Pod and I did the Vashon route laslt summer and we had a great time... Quote Link to comment
nolenator
I won't likely be able to make the Vashon trip, but might be available for a guided tour of Something Evil in West Seattle afterwards. A nice little brewery is very near one of the waypoints. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Curious about Vashon - is that a hike or a driving route that's been shown? Sorry, I couldn't tell. Quote Link to comment
Prying Pandora
Curious about Vashon - is that a hike or a driving route that's been shown? Sorry, I couldn't tell. You'll definitely want to drive that! Quote Link to comment
The Jester
It definitely is a driving route - 46.4 miles. The hike down (and back up) to GC5903 Fence Lizard will get you warm. The walk out to GCG5N8 is mostly flat and not very long. AFAIK those are the walks/hikes. Quote Link to comment
Kealia
So is this the plan or are there other ideas, too? I'm not saying it's good or bad. Just seeing if the group has made a decision. Quote Link to comment
CENT5
I have a kitchen pass and my 8 Pax Suburban is available. (Though the very back seat can be a bit cozy.) Edited January 20, 2006 by CENT5 Quote Link to comment
WeightMan
Since we haven't seen any other suggestions, I guess it is Vashon. Probably not the hike you were looking for, but it should be a little different for a Californian. I would propose that we meet at the coordinates for Tide Pool that I posted earlier. That is a good parking lot not far from the ferry dock. Vashon is a very rural area with one major industry. That would be K2 skis. What we don't have yet is a place for dinner (which night was that?) Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Hey, I've no complaints if nobody else does. Dinner/drinks (whatever) would be Wed night (25th). Again, I MAY have to show up just for a drink after y'all eat. Quote Link to comment
TotemLake
I have a peer going on vacation next week so won't be able to take the day off. I may be able to meet up for drinks and dinner though! Quote Link to comment

The Jester
There is a Pizza Hut across the freeway from the Bellevue Embassy Suites - I don't think they serve beer though. Not being a drinker I don't really pay much attention to where what is served, so if someone else has a suggestion... Quote Link to comment
WeightMan
I don't know anything about Bellevue eateries so don't look to me for help on dinner. Quote Link to comment
