What do you think of this?

Recommended Posts

I put a travel bug out to honor the soldiers of Ft. Bliss now involved in defending the USA (and the world) from terror. Study the log of the travel bug HERE.

As you can see, it has been a while, and kind of strange. But I wasn't worried untli I looked at the PROFILE.

There is no way to contact this individual. From his profile, I believe the travel bug is gone. It pi$$e$ me off, but I am considering archiving it and starting another one.

Any comments-suggestions-ideas? Anyone know this guy? From his profile, it looks like all he did was take, never gave anything back to geocaching.

Thanks Y-all...

and its obvious that the 12 caches he did was to steal the TBs. I would agree that they are probably gone and you should start over and try and keep them away from this D1ckH3@D

Thats probably why his account is disabled, because he's been banned. If not he needs to be. Can someone look into that???

WOW! I didn't realize what this was! I thought it was just that he took my bug with honorable intentions, then got sidetracked. I didn't realize it was this bad till I read the threads posted here.

Thanks... I guess. Your comment is amusing. I am certainly capable of riding out the recoil and watching his head turn into a red mist from 600 yards out, he would never hear the boom.

And there are probably a few people who believe I WOULD do a thing like that. BUT....

When I asked if anybody knew this guy, I had no intention like that. I was looking for information as to if he returned the bugs later, or what. Obviously, I am just the last of an unfortunate situation.

Read this carefully. While the guy may well deserve retribution, he will not get it from me. That kind of confrontation can lead to very dangerous situations. While there is personal value in the travel bugs, all of them, it isn't worth the taking of a life. And that is what it could come to. Lets all let it go!!!

I appreciate your comment icon_biggrin.gif and confidence in my abilities. Going "to get the guy" sounds good, but it is a bad idea. He just isn't worth it. I will replace the bug and try again.

I value your thoughts. Thanks Y-all for the input.

Well, if you call his pitiful existance a life...

On a serious note, I'm glad you see this as only a game and aren't TOO upset about it.

This is why I prefer to spell it 'tird'. Then it almost spells dirt backwards. icon_rolleyes.gif People like this do not deserve the attention we give them. Unfortunatly jerks like this will always exist. It's a good thing that they are in the minority in the geo-community. Let it go DW; you are not the first nor the last that he will offend. Maybe someday El Diablo or Go Joey or another decent NC mountain cacher will nail this guy for all of us. Look at the bright side; they have to deal with his nonsense all the time in their 'hood.

Sooner or later all caches will be plundered. All Travel Bugs will eventually be taken and not returned. The charming part about Geocaching is the relatively slow rate that this happens. Where in the world is there another game where you leave personal property unguarded in the woods and then tell thousands of strangers where to find it - with a reasonable expectation that the vast majority will respect it. It’s a credit to the decency of Geocachers in general. PiGMaN is a mental runt and he will eventually be exposed (and I am sure that for those who have met him, he already has been).

This is not to say I am not sorry about the loss of your Travel Bug. It was a good one, worthy of a much longer life.

Just think, the soldiers of Ft. Bliss are fighting so that all of us here are free to do what we want... yeah, including jerks like Pigman.

It is a shame that this happened to any bug, but especially a bug with some real meaning to it, like this one. I would have been honored to escort it to the Flight 93 crash site (it's in my caching territory, and there's a virtual cache there) and to fix it up with a commemorative postcard that I saw when visiting another nearby cache (I ain't saying which one).

How about re-starting this bug near where it was plundered (but safely away from Pigman's territory)? Find a cooperative cacher and mail them the copy tag, then let the bug continue its journey. From North Carolina it could visit either DC or PA first.

I just helped a California cacher replace a plundered travel bug that had gone missing here in Pittsburgh. It was a Leprechaun so I just had to help. You should have no trouble getting assistance for a bug like yours.

What an excellant idea. I had already decided I would start over. I will not allow this incident to upset me. I have another tag. I can go to Ft. Bliss and pick up another coin. Drill one small hole, and it is on the road. Hmmm... copy tag. How fitting if it were a GI dog-tag!

Perhaps some cacher from that area would accept me mailing the bug to them to begin from near that location. Any volunteers reading this, please and thank you.....

Again, thanks Y-all. Geocaching is a truly great bunch of people.

I live in Baltimore and am going to Pittsburgh at the end of this month. I was planning on doing the virtual in PA anyway. Also being in Baltimore I am really a hop skip and a subway ride into DC and the Pentagon. And to top this all off I expect I will be going to NYC sometime in August. My cousin is visiting from Germany and has said she wants to go. The last time she was here was about two weeks before 9/11 and we were in NYC and at the World Trade Center on a Tuesday. One of the many phone calls I made the next day was to her and we spent a long time crying and remembering how much fun we had those days in NYC, which we will never forget now.

If I can be of any help in this it would be an honor. I never served but I will do my best to complete any mission as assigned. I also have some TBs here so if you would like to get one started from one of those sites and sent down to you, say the word. To be honest I would not have a problem starting one from all three with the final destination for each being your fine part of the country.

I feel your pain Desert_Warrior. I live in the Western NC area, the pigman's apparent rooting grounds, and we had about 13 travel bugs go A.W.O.L. before GC.com killed his account. We haven't seen anymore disappear since then... but we haven't seen any resurface, either. icon_mad.gif Speculation abounds through all of the local cachers, but at this point, that's all it is.

Great post. Nice to see a positive perspective on a negative situation.

It IS quite amazing to find caches where people said they put them. That is what fascinated me about the sport when I found my first cache. I had talked to the town police chief about it just a few minutes before I found it and his comments were "what if somebody steals it?" I considered "yeah, how do I know it's still there or even that it ever was- this whole thing could be an internet scam". But I looked and there it was!

That is the most truly amazing thing about this sport- like you said, leaving personal property ungaurded and telling thousands of people where it is and it is still there.

I know it doesn't lessen the hurt when a cache or a tb gets taken. I have lost 2-1/3 caches, and have 3 tb's (every one I have launched) currently in limbo, already, having only been involved for 6 months. But we really need to have the perspective that caching has a DARN GOOD record considering the abject depravity of human nature and the total openness of the sport.

God truly loves inconsiderate, lying, theiving scumbags. (He calls them sinners and the root of it all is in all of us.) He made a LOT of them!

This game has a great record. Let's not let a few *****'$ spoil our fun.

I E-mailed the last hider, before the pig-man took the travel bug. He said he would be glad to have me mail it to him and re-hide it.

I will begin making a new bug tonight. I decided to make a new tag, from a GI dogtag. Somehow, fitting I think.

It would appear the pigman is coming to his senses. It says on his profile page here (by the way he is still active as josecuervogold) that he has decided to let all captured bugs free to continue travels. Have your bugs shown up? I've been doing some searching and he says he's letting the bugs go into RooT thE DurT aNd SNout tHE EarTh TrAVel BuG HoTEl(GCGC0Q) however no such cache shows up when searched for. He still has an active account, he has a NoPigMan account and his pigman account is inactive, there is even a pigman (Pigma) in MA who's account has been disabled. This is probably the work of a child, or someone with a childlike brain. What a maroon. He probably thinks he's being funny, but he has no idea what funny is. This is just moronic. I hope he does release your bugs soon.

Cache you later,

Can Jeremy and the guys make it where you have to log in to "Find Caches" online? At least they can keep getting rid of the accounts of those individuals. Banning the IP will make it more difficult for them or least a hassle.

Perhaps this person (Pigman) wasn't "capable" of getting into the military and he takes the TB tags and uses them as dog tags when he's playing army man? icon_wink.gif

It does not matter. I have released a new bug, nearly identical to the first. The only difference is that it has a GI DOGTAG for the TB number instead of the original tag.

I will delete anything the pigman puts on the TB page, and will attempt to recover the old bug - IF it does get released. If it does, no loss. If it don't no loss either.

Hey DW, I have access to a platoon of Avenger missile systems if you would like to use them...for the FLIR sights only of course, not the M3P machine guns or missiles. We had a rogue in my area but he seemed to loose interest pretty quickly. His name was "Buttpirate". I would think names like this would raise a few red flags among the admins. If you are immature enough to use names like this your probaly up to no good.

Well, there is someone in Arkansas that goes and takes travel bugs and puts them in their travel bug prison. Then, after some time, they do a cache page and let everyone know that they are holding them hostage. The thing is, the terrain and difficulty are 5/5.

I know of one that was holding one of our locals travel bug. Some nice person went and rescued it recently. A few of the bugs in the prison had been held for 18+ months.

So, it is a game. Just be patient. The prison name will probably be announced before too long and then you can search for someone in that area (if it is out of state) and have them rescue it for you, unless you want to go get it yourself.

"Nice find! I must go tell Harry, Ron and Hermione."
