+RIclimber Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) I took this picture a few years ago on a geocaching road trip. I just found it while making a backup of my photos, and now I want to know what it is! Has anyone ever seen a truck this large? Can anyone tell me what that is? Edited July 10, 2010 by Downy288 Quote
+bittsen Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 A giant erector set? Looks like part of a tunel boring machine? Maybe some sort of specialized storage tank? Quote
DarthJustice Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Oh, that's Optimus Prime. Those morons were supposed to keep it a secret. I'll get a line into headquarters. Just kidding. I honestly don't know. Quote
+RatRunCrew Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I'm English, but it looks like a Peterbilt to me Quote
+Fianccetto Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 My guess is part of an oil rig/drill...Mr F says checmical processing equipment. Quote
DannyCaffeine Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Mabey they are going to stuff it in the leaking oil pipe? lol idk. Quote
+Zarya. Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I'd guess oil/gas equipment, possibly on the refining end. Precision atomic or chemical industry equipment shouldn't be that exposed to the elements or unsecured, methinks. Oil industry truck convoys with oversize loads are pretty common around Alberta, they hold up traffic all the time. It's a pretty cool picture, nonetheless. Thanks for sharing. Quote
+Klatch Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I'm English, but it looks like a Peterbilt to me Nope. Kenworth. Quote
+Colonial Cats Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Don't have a clue. Maybe someone with platinum membership might know. Quote
+bittsen Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 (edited) Hmmm... Rhode island.... Maybe the base of an ocean mounted wind turbine? We get a lot of the white ones around here but they are land based. Edited July 14, 2010 by bittsen Quote
+bittsen Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Nevermind my last post. It's a part from "Davenport Dryer, LLC". They are a "Mfr. of rotary dryers & coolers, dewatering presses, foundry molding machines rotary foundry equipment, sand screens & shakeouts" and they operate out of Davenport, Iowa. It must be a rotary dryer component. Quote
+genegene Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Very odd how its transported from the top with nothing underneath. Looks like cables, and chains holding it off the ground. Quote
+IBcrashen Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 looks like a thermos I use on my coffee break, its over when its empty. Quote
+Gitchee-Gummee Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I would agree with Bittsen. Looks like it may be part of a soil incinerator. Tumbling contaminated soil to burn off the impurities. The finished sterile soil can then be recycled back to the environment. It does however, make for "sterile" soil as nothing can grow in it. Quote
+Darren V Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 My friend saw something like that one the road the other day and followed it till it parked. He ask the driver What it was and he said it was a Space Shuttle engine... no joke! He took some pictures and It looked simular to the one you have Quote
+bittsen Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Speculate all you want, folks. I know that I'm correct. The logo on the tank is a dead giveaway. Quote
Difficult Run Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Bittsen's right. Here's a webpage with a nearly identical load: Wide Load ~ Mitch ~ Quote
+RIclimber Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Bittsen's right. Here's a webpage with a nearly identical load: Wide Load ~ Mitch ~ That's it! thanks! I saw the same truck, my pic was taken on the 1st, so that website was from four days later. You can even see the broken part in my pic. Edited July 16, 2010 by Downy288 Quote
