ThomasFamily102 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Okay so here is how this works. When you find a cache and you look around you to see the scenery, what do you see. Post pics of what the scenery looks like, something that is nearby the cache, etc. Or you can just explain what your surroundings looked like at a cache. For example....standing at this cache...we saw this! Quote

Pup Patrol Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I like posting photos in the cache's gallery, but never know if many people look at them. Like this one: GC18D4D 43 and the Generation Station Or this one: GCNHHV Brooks Falls Quote
+Ms.Scrabbler Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 "I like posting photos in the cache's gallery, but never know if many people look at them" I like looking at the the pictures and if I'm not able to find a cache, I'll study those photos! Quote
ThomasFamily102 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Okay I am adding this rule. Don't give the exact location of the cache tho in your photos. NO SPOILERS Quote
+42at42 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 This is a photo borrowed from one of my caches, GC1RE84. and another pic. Quote
Pup Patrol Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 The GC codes and the cache pages I posted in no way provide "spoilers". They are large areas, and the photos of the views won't help to find the actual cache. But it might be incentive to look for the caches, if folks get a chance to see the scenery they will encounter. I use the photos posted in a cache's gallery to determine if it's worthwhile to go there. A lot of times, the photos are the only reason to put a cache on my to-do list. Sorry if I "spoiled" things for the thread. Quote
+Viajero Perdido Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Ooh, I like threads like this. They bring back some great memories. You can click the pictures to see the cache pages. Quote

Sorry if I "spoiled" things for the thread. NOO Sorry that statement wasnt aimed at you. I was gonna put that in the original topic starter but forgot. I would have put it in the first post but i don't know how to edit my posts. I just thought i would throw it in so someone wouldn't come in and start bashing the thread because they think the pictures will spoil the cache. No it wasn't aimed at you. Sorry it sounded that way. Luckily, access is upon a constructed boardwalk (by Eagle Scouts -- thank you, boys), minimizing impact. Look closely, more falls are upstream. Edited February 3, 2010 by Gitchee-Gummee Quote

Mark-X Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 View from the two caches hidden in Meteora, Greece: GCGJ59 "Meteora" and my own GC123CO "Meteora Rocks" (Transfered from an older thread...) Quote
+Wooden Cyclist Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 The cache is hidden on this F-14. Luckily my caching companion for the day was a retired Navy Senior Chief that had spent his career in aircraft maintenance. We found the cache in about 45 seconds. Without his help it would have taken much much longer. Quote
+Wooden Cyclist Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Here is one that is similar to the picture at the start of this thread except that the bridge is in much worse shape. Another view The cacher has to cross this bridge to get to GZ. Fortunately the bridge is much more sturdy than it appears to be. This turtle decided to lay its eggs about 18" from a cache. Quote
+Smithbats Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 No where near as dramatic as these, but while doing GC4ACO we were lucky to see a fly past by a WWII Spitfire, one of only 44 still flying today Quote

Gummee was extremely unhappy -- I am being mild here as this is a family forum. If not that one, 'twas one very similar. Somewhere off Peter White Rd. (that's not much of a road, either), just about smack dab in the middle of da U.P. On second thought, it can't be the same one. The stream we crossed was rushing much harder -- but the tag alder looks the same. Quote

ThomasFamily102 Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 Haha I was referring to Gitchee-Gumee. That is an awesome bridge tho. What was it used for? The original one i posted was a leftover bridge from and abandoned railway. Quote

+Gitchee-Gummee Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 What did you drive over it with??? I would have been scared to death! It turns out that we didn't (from the postings), but if you like I could steer you to a lot of them like so -- I doubt any that looks worse (for driving over). That actually appears to be an excellent foot bridge, the stringers appear quite substantial, it's the tread portion that looks a "bit" questionable. To answer the Q: an F-250 (with lots of branch drag-marks in the paint!). Quote
