+cqdx
Just loaded 1500 caches into my Nuvi 770. I am heading out the door to try it out. I wish there was a way to show all the caches on the map at the same time, other than that, I will now go see if I can find the cache. Link to comment
+mortified
Hi, Thanks. So does the red banner only show on the top of the screen when a cache is near by? If someone or is there somewhere I can go to have it explained please. Thanks ~~ Mortified Link to comment

Yes http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ Additional Features Proximity Alerts POI Loader allows you to configure proximity alerts — when you're within a certain distance of a POI or driving over a certain speed near a POI, your GPS will provide visual and audio alerts — perfect to warn you about upcoming school zones, red lights, and safety cameras. +CDS231
I haven't checked in a couple of weeks but does the Tourguide feature still lock up the 700 series Nuvi's? I know it is on the Garmin side of things and would really enjoy this feature. With the last Nuvi update my 750 was still locking up more than 50% of the time. Thanks. Link to comment

+Timpat
Thanks again Pilotsnipes! This has worked perfectly on my Colorado 300, and for fun I tried it with my Street Pilot c550. To my amazement and delight it works great here too!! My wife and I cracked up caching with the c550 with its text to voice ability! Soooo funny to hear our Austrailian accented Karen pronounce all the "ThankYouMillie/Tra/N/GC1F8jP" cache name as it appears!! She reads like this: "thank you millie slash tra slash n slash gc1f8jp" to announce when we are approaching the cache. Too funny! Edited October 2, 2008 by Timpat Link to comment

I have 596 points in GSAK -- but only about 30 of them seemed to transfer over into my custom PIOs. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I should note that I have more than 400 megs free on my Nuvi. +ComedyAddict
First off, thanks for this awesome macro! I used it yesterday for my first paperless roadtrip and it worked great. I got stuck in roadworks along the route I had planned to take, but having my entire database of caches loaded meant that even on the detour I took around the 10 miles of roadworks (I love my Nuvi for that feature alone!) I was able to find a number of caches along the detour too. With papered cache, it would have just been a nice drive. I get my replacment handheld GPSr in a couple days, so I hope the GPX file is works with that too. As good as the Nuvi is, its nice using a handheld one for caching. Thanks again... +Corp Of Discovery
In another thread there was a question about an errror like this: "C:\gsak\poiloader/Geocache <insert type>.gpx is invalid". I get the same error all the time and responded with what I do- which is jus re-run the macro. It works the 2nd time without a hitch. That, of course, isn't the way it's supposed to work I'm guessing. Any idea on what is causing it and/or a possible fix? This also happens when I run the other popular Nuvi macro too, so I'll be cross posting this to both threads. Link to comment

Enjoy the hunt. PilotSnipes, Thanks for all your hard work. I am looking forward to trying this out. I am trying out a Garmin 360 I got off Amazon for $ 240 +/- to compare with the Nuvi 260 ( one will be going back ). The older Macros worked GREAT for the 300 series. The amount of information transferred over made for completely paperless geocaching. Interested to see the improvements. Thanks Again!! I have recently purchased a Nuvi 750 and used your program to marry geocaching with it. Directions with pictures! WOW. Many thanks. It appears it is going to work great. There is one question, though. Is there anyway to load a gsak file to "favorites" so an icon will appear on the map at cache locations rather than a "custom poi" file. Presently it seems that I must do each cache individually to move it from "custom poi" to "favorites". MANY, MANY THANKS for you time and program. Pa Yoopers Link to comment

Motorcycle_Mama
If you are asking if you can delete individual Custom POI locations on the GPS unit itself, the answer is no. Custom POIs cannot be edited on the GPS unit. All editing (including deleting) has to be done on the computer. And then the Custom POI data must be reloaded. Or you can delete the entire file, by navigating to the location where you installed the Custom POIs (either on the unit or on the SD card as applicable) and delete the POI.GPI file. This will delete them all. Link to comment

+pilotsnipes
Well the Nuvi's hold THOUSANDS. Like i mean LOADS, I've seen databases with over 15,000 caches and stuff, I think that should keep you busy for a few weeks Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
Yeah, the number that you can load is pretty much only limited by the amount of space available, so with an SD card, it's pretty much unlimited. Link to comment

+meekbelieve
Great Macro! I'm trying to get it working with my Garmin Oregon 300. I cannot figure out if it would be possible with this macro to include custom icons for all different cache types, because now all (including child-waypoints) look the same. It would be great if this macro would have the option to output different gpx files for every type, so you could add .bmp files for the types that you want to have a specific icon. POI loader automaticly recognizes them if the file-names are the same as the .gpx files I believe. Anyway, thanks for all the work! Link to comment

+ky.m.guy
Thank-you so much for the hard work on this macro. I love it. I love not having to write down all of the hints, description, co-ordinates, etc. I have a few questions. 1) Is it possible to have the macro output to several .gpx files in order to have different icons? I don't want to have to set 16 different filters and output the caches 16 times in order to get different waypoint icons. 2) Is it possible to EXCLUDE the child waypoints from the macro so that they do NOT appear on the GPS. (Even better, have the child waypoints export as a seperate .gpx file so that you do not get proximity alerts for the child waypoints and so you can have a different icon for child waypoints and so they appear in a different list under the Favorites>Custom POI menu on the GPS If these cannot already be done, I think it would be a great feature to add to the macro. (I tried but I have no idea how macro language works ) Anyways, Thanks for the GREAT macro ., Kyle, ky.m.guy Link to comment
+The Peanuts
A while ago I used your posts to configure macros to export caches to my Nuvi 660. After some minor, technical difficulties, I was able to get it to work and I was ecstatic. I went back to load more into my Garmin and got the following error: App: POILoader At: 10/16/2008 2:49:24 PM (UTC) OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 Processor: x86, Processor Level: 15, Processors:1, Model: 3 Stepping: 4, RAM: 1276336 APPLICATION.CPP-258-2.5.2.0 invalid string position. I contacted Garmin and their response was: There appears to be a conflict in the application. If you have not created or downloaded .csv files from a third party web site to load into the unit, then the POI loader has nothing to see to load. The POI loader is only an application, the needed files have to be created as a .csv file following the suggested format of the help example. If you have created or downloaded a .csv file and the unit itself is being recognized by the POI loader, and the file is being seen, but this error comes up while accessing or trying to load the file, then something in the file may be corrupt or not in the correct format. I went back and deleted my previous POI loader and reinstalled from your link. I configured a new macro...etc. After everything I did, I still get the same error and I am frustrated at the lack of success that I once had. Is there something that I am either not doing, or doing incorrectly? I know it was only a matter of clicking buttons the last time once everything was set up. Link to comment

Had a little trouble getting it together (my screw-up), but now I have a little 3"x 4" cache finding paperless monster because of your help. I really like the page that shows the closest caches while you're driving. That's really the only thing you need to get close. Shoot, if the distance indicator would read closer than .1 and start breaking down distance in feet (or meters) as you close in you wouldn't need the map at all. Everything is just clean and to the point and your instructions allowed for this knuckle-dragger to set it up. Thanks. Link to comment
