  1. The name of my cartridge was too long and it wouldn't open it. Thanks Ranger Fox for finding that out. I did take the sounds out and extra characters. It's published and working Whew! Thanks for everyone's help.
  2. Congratulations! Do you see numbers? If you are sitting still or moving very slowly, the receiver tells you bearings to the points. Once you get to moving around, the numbers will change to arrows. On the emulator, grab your little guy and slowly move him around and see if the directional arrows start working. Since they have to visit the zones in order, maybe you could start by showing only the first zone. Then, when the player gets to ZoneOne, the next zone, ZoneTwo gets turned on. Perhaps something like this to turn it on: function zoneFirstPlace:OnProximity() zoneSecondPlace.Active = true zoneSecondPlace.Visible = true end I'm not good at this one yet. Anyone else? Thank you for the zone help. It works great!
  3. I'm not sure why, but the arrows and such do not show up on the emulator but they do on the Oregon. Anyway it's working now. The input I could never get to work even after the tutorial. It just never did what it was suppose too. so i moved on. The zone order you mark everything but the first one as inactive and invisible on the zone page and then on the script on the first zone you an action of making the next zone you want them to visit as zone active true and zone visible true. and so on. I hope this helps the next person save some time on building theirs.
  4. Ranger Fox to the rescue!! My cartridge name was too long. 50 characters only. Funny thing is the code took up a page to tell a programmer that! I also took out all characters like ??!$&("': too and took out any extra spaces like between paragraphs. 1000 spaces/characters per message area. Made sure the pictures were the correct pixels, etc... It is published now. Thank heavens. Thank you Ranger Fox and Also wildbill who also suggested the characters and spaces. Thank you so much!!
  5. Now I've gone in and taken out all spaces, all pictures are the right size, all extra characters, I've tried everything that I have read on the forums and I'm at a complete loss. I have saved the error message and it's a long one. Can someone please help, if not it's going into the graveyard and 20+ hours of of my life with it!
  6. Okay. I will not let this Wherigo Beat me!! I need help again, please. Long error message when i try to publish. I read the forums, I took out all "?!) ' I divided my longer text into shorter sections. I do have several photos in my program with some text. should these be seperated photos from the text? the photos range from 45.kb to 84.kb Is this the problem?? I tried making my own zip gwz file and that didn't work, I tried logging in and then trying it, still no luck. Please anyone have a suggestion.
  7. okay, it's working now with the sound BUT i did end up rebuilding and taking out the events on the "when the cartridge starts" but now it will not publish and gives me a long error message. i've read the forums on this problem and see where I could have some characters that would cause problems... thanks for your help. i'm going to delete the sounds just to make sure it doesn't cause problems in the future.
  8. The zone is 230 ft but I never made it to the first zone. I am trying to play the cartridge and on the screen it has "play" and then the distance to coordinates of the starting location. It is not leading me to the zone one yet because I'm still trying to hit play. When I clicked play it says "unable to play cartridge" I did make other changes since I walked through it but none that I think one affect start. Plus it works perfectly in my emulator and a friends as well (who I sent to check it out) the first zone has to be a zone, of course. it should have OnEnter event and it must be active (and probably visible) when the cartridge is started. this is your statement. This is all true of my first zone. the promixity range is 200 (not sure what this means so I didn't change it from original amount) does this help explain my problem more? thanks
  9. My event viewer script on the "When Cartridge Started" is Play alert Sound Show series of dialog to player My start location is coordinates. I do not have this area mark as a zone. Should it be a zone? Thank you for your help.
  10. Okay, day 6, hour 15 of working on my first Wherigo!!! Everything is set, it all works perfect in the emulator and then when I get to beginning location.... nothing. In my cartridge I have a starting location and have entered events "when the cartridge is started" under cartridge, and I have a series of messages for the user in order to tell them about where to park, how long it takes, parking meter etc... then you walk to this corner to start first zone. My thoughts were I wanted this message ANY time they open the cartridge. On the way there or after they parked. Any suggestions??? The problem is at the location it never allows you to begin play, it's there and the directional arrow is pointing with the ft but at no point could I get it to play. Even within 2 ft it wouldn't start. I ran through the cartridge in the field two days ago and it worked but I didn't have this message then. Any help??? Please??? Question two: Is there any way in my cartridge I can "save" it for the user so they do not have to back track if it crashes? Thanks for any help given.
  11. Okay, I see no numbers or arrows. I sent my lua file to another person and they CAN see them. I can't figure that out. Any ideas?
  12. Last night I found an excellent tutorial by Ranger Fox on asking questions. Awesome work! Thank you. I will try the suggestions on my first 2 problems and get back to you. Thank you.
  13. Creating my first Wherigo. I have 5 zones. They work! BUT I have these problems.java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_10') 1) directional arrows do not show up in my emulator nor on gps. 2) how do I make the user know the order of which I want my zones visited. Right now I'm doing this by text directions and I find it too wordy. (I tried making only the first active and the other inactive but the result was none but the first zone opened in the Emulator. 3) More complex, but I've tried several things and have had no success... how do I ask a question and get input from the user to gain access to the next zone. I have used "get input from player" but I could not get it to work. I need step by step on this one please. I know start with some simple but I've spent so much time developing it I would really like to have a little more meat to it besides just a boring tour. Thank you so much for help!!! mtncachers
  14. I tried everything and finally updated my version of GSAK and then it worked like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to write this awesome program. Very excited to add this to the cache runs! Great instructions!
  15. I'm in the process of begininng the garmin nuvi paperless caching. I've saved the garmin macro file and also made the button on my tool bar. When I click the button it says "wait token must be yes or no" Do you have any suggestions as what to do next. I have gone through the steps several times with the same results. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks. My nuvi is 680 and op is Microsoft Windows xp Media Center edition.
  16. I've seen several travel bugs with a little slip of paper with all the states listed for cachers to check off as the tb visits various states. Does anyone have a file of this so I can print out and use? Thank you.
  17. Well I'll say it knowing how dumb it is, but I don't even know how to use a regular compass to find a cache. So you can see why I rely on it. I guess I need to go back to Map101. Any quick tutorial to pass along my way. I wish I could withhold my name but it's out there now.
  18. So you are saying it's likely I'll have the same problem?
  19. Called Garmin and they are having me send in my unit for repair/replacement. I'm glad I didn't get the run around.
  20. Mine doesn't. It only beeps when I put the computer on Standby, or turn the computer off, before turning off the GPSr. The beep I hear is related to the external power being interrupted. Garmin's Customer Service is excellent, so you could call them. Thanks for the advice. I did call Garmin and they said the connection from the cable to my unit was loose and it needed to be sent in for repair or replacement. I connected it while talking to Garmin and my cat bit me again!!! I have other issues with the compass that they are going to look at as well. I'll be out of caching for 2 weeks! I better call my caching friends for backup.
  21. I'm not an expert but I have a Garmin 60CSx that the arrow disappears. How it happened to me. I was on a trail ("off road" is selected) and I stopped and paged over to see the map page and when I paged back the arrow and info were gone. I started walking and holding it level and it never came back. Tried paging through no luck. Ended up turning it off and starting over. Sometimes this works sometimes not. I haven't figured out if this is related to the problem of the arrow pointing in the wrong direction or not. That is a whole other issue that drives me up the wall. I have recalibrated so many times!!!!!! I'm caching with a friend with a 60cs and it's always right on so I just follow along even though mine is pointed in another direction. The feet are working so I use that. Just prefer the arrow.
  22. Does anyone's garmin beep constantly while connected to the usb port? Even after pushing buttons it still beeps. It is so annoying. My cat actually comes over and bites me while I'm downloading.
  23. I went caching yesterday and the compass page went blank several times. Turning it off and then on worked, but who has time to do this every cache. Then I never relied on the arrow because it was always pointing in the wrong direction. I recalibrated several times to no avail! Sometimes it went in circles!
  24. I see I'm not the only one with GPS60csx problems. My compass arrow disappears and I have to recalibrate several times a usage. Fresh batteries and recalibrating usually works for a while. I got an email from a member who suggested pulling out the battery contacts a tad helped them. It's very frustrating when you are bushwacking and your gps has you going the wrong way but a minute earlier it took you right to the cache! Anybody heard back from Garmin on these issues?
