The HERB5
Possibly a mid-life crisis but wouldn't mind giving this a go ? Who'd be up for a weekend Caching Event taking in the Lyke Wake Walk for the hardcore followed by some caches. Or just lotsa caching Quote Link to comment
rutson
That's pretty soon isn't it? I know at least two cachers are doing the walk anyway. Quote Link to comment

The HERB5
http://www.lykewakewalk.co.uk/ Hmmph, followed this link and it says that as of Feb '07 it's defunct. Doesn't stop anybody doing it I suppose. There's a race in July 7th but I'm doing; well following, Le Tour so wont be doing that. Doesn't stop and Event based round the route though if there are enough caches. Quote Link to comment
rutson
I've just been informed "the Lyke wake Club don't like groups of more than six or so walking together to keep the moor path unwidened" Quote Link to comment

Haggis Hunter
I've just been informed "the Lyke wake Club don't like groups of more than six or so walking together to keep the moor path unwidened" I done the Lyke Wake Walk in 1990 with 30 other people. We had to do it within a 24 hour period so that we could earn our badges! Quote Link to comment
third-degree-witch
i might be up for a bit of this,,, Quote Link to comment
Longfram Kev
I did the LWW in 1970 in just under 17 hours when I was in the scouts. We had to write a report and send it off to the LWW Club to get a coffin shaped badge, which I still have on my green camo jacket. Sad eh? Quote Link to comment

The HERB5
Was it a year ago I looked at this. Anybody got a route/gpx that I can load into my Garmin ? I'm up there next week Quote Link to comment
The HERB5
I've found a MM overlay which I cut'n'paste in Waypoint Workbench and exported to MapSource. Looks Ok, I'll give an update next week Quote Link to comment
Pink Paisley
Right. Looking to revive this thread and to get an event up and running for next summer. This has been done before (GC1FA91). This is archived but can still be viewed. GC1FA91 was done in November. Now I reckon that is hardcore. A summer event gives the best weather conditions (yeah right!) and the longest hours of light. The walk should take about 15 hours but caching along the way will add time (but probably has to be done). Common wisdom says start in the west and walk east to keep the prevailing wind at your back. I am thinking June 2012. Which gives ME plenty of time to rehears my excuses, er, I mean train. Advice / encouragement / tips gratefully received here. PP Quote Link to comment

rutson
I could be persuaded... Same time as this? http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=151299194952449 Edited August 21, 2011 by rutson Quote Link to comment
Pink Paisley
Date not settled but at that time of year it is bound to clash with other events somewhere along the line. Since this is a '24 hour' event that is likely to commit participants to rather more than 24 hours including travel and recovery, would there be support for it to happen mid-week? Perhaps to follow or precede the Masham event? Is it a consideration for anybody? PP Quote Link to comment
rutson
Mistress of Misery, Helen in Mustardland has expressed an interest providing dates work out. She also suggested a crossing to coincide with the annual wake and I quote "if you walk[then], you get loads of pints bought you!". Sounds like a good enough reason to me ;-) For the avoidance of doubt the "New" club website is here: http://www.lykewake.org Here's the tracklog and some pics from GC1FA91: http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=72031. It was "quite moist"! Quote Link to comment
bearhugger1972
I would be up for this. I have been meaning to do this walk for a few years now and need an reason to train / make my excuses. Quote Link to comment
Helen in Mustardland
I'm definitely up for a crossing next spring/summer to count towards my Doctor of Dolefulness, please keep me posted (I don't come in here too often at the moment). I don't know if the dates work out but the Wake (piss up and piss take, with much singing of the Lyke Wake Dirge, and everyone in mourning dress or witches robes, wishing each other condolences rather than congratulations) will very likely be 12th May, and if it's the same as previous years there will be free camping at Lord Stones Cafe(basic - loo at the cafe, no showers) overnight that night, which we could take advantage of.
