+northernpenguin Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Do I get "A NEW CAR!"? Ok.. When (precise date: year-month-day) did the Soviet Union launch Sputnik – the world's first satellite? Popular misconception here. The first satellite was launched from Scotland, when Shamus McDuffin sliced his tee-off on the third hole. Well, he did say he never saw it come back down.... As for the Russians.. Hmmm. No idea so I'll get out the old dart board and say.... June 5 1966. Quote

+H.F.Reign Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 OK, now that it looks like we here in central ontario may finally be getting some snow... what major canadian city holds the record for all-time snowfall for a single season, and how much snow fell that season? Quote
danoshimano Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 what major canadian city holds the record for all-time snowfall for a single season, and how much snow fell that season? I think that would be my driveway, and it was about 600 metres of snow. Oh... you said "city". Quote
+Couparangus Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 I'll guess Saskatoon in 1977. Quote
+northernpenguin Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I'll guess Saskatoon in 1977. Well, I know the record is in BC and had a massive amount of snow - but that wasn't a major city. I'll say Montreal with 300 inches. (again with the dartboard) Quote
+AV Dezign Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 (edited) I remember that day, it was in downtown toronto, all hell broke loose, cars where left on the highway here and there, nothing was moving, panic was setting in... oh wait, that was only a few inches that fell... Are you sure you're not thinking of downtown Vancouver? Actually, truth is that it does not matter where you are in this great expanse of a country: When the first bunch of white stuff falls -- even in areas that get lots -- there are copious amounts of automobile accidents. The media likes to blame it on "the weather" when in reality the blame lies with the drivers who should be slapping themselves on the forehead and saying something along the lines of "DOH! Now I remember from last year! That stuff is SLIPPERY!" (BTW, no answer to the question, because I have no idea!) Quote
+Juicepig Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 (edited) Real Guess: St. Johns Newfoundland, and If I recall the pictures correct I would guesstimate around 4m. Fake Guess: Toronto with about 2 inches of powder.. Edited November 30, 2006 by Juicepig Quote
+H.F.Reign Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Juicepig, you do indeed have the correct city but the total amount of snowfall for the season was significantly more! Give it another go will ya! Quote

+H.F.Reign Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Yeah, you did it Juicepig!!! According to Environment Canada the final tally - 648.4 cm is the all time snow fall record for a single season held by St John's in the winter of 2000-2001. Quote

Available at mcdonald's franchises across canada. but i've seen you cruising down the street- in your brand new coat! Yes! it's a beautiful down-filled coat from sears, bill. good against all the ravages of the winter weather. but again, that is nothing- compared to where you're going! Beautiful downtown hamilton! i'll be spending seven days and two sensuous nights at the beautiful hamilton motor inn, overlooking absolutely nothing. Bring your own lunch and dinner, bill. Snowball has an official sign, a donut shop, and a gas station (among other things). What is it about Snowball that you find not real? And it's in Central Ontario, too. Next time you're passing through and need a coffee, you won't be so quick to dust off Snowball. Quote
