Pat, thank you, a dream come true ... my sweet bride in the fast lane. Footnote: Sandy and I drove two hours out of the deep forest through rain and snow today just to use the wireless service at College of the Siskiyous to see your Photoshop effort. Our ten-dollars per month dial-up service fails each and every time we try to view photos. You done good, Sandy laughed and laughed. Hey, watch what you say about replacing aged things. That old craft was the very one that allowed me to score finds on a few of TT's puzzle caches. You'll find out one day that aging is a good thang. We'll just wait and see how that young whipper-snapper replacement craft does. Why the heck didn't you hard-wire all of those puzzle-cache solutions of yours into the new craft? That's something that we could really pat you on the back for. O, by the way Tom, congratulations on a successful launch. Your ol' pal, Harmon Quote Link to comment
+Eric and Hill
This was part of a wash that ThePolarBear and myself came along in our journeys. Needless to say I wanted to try and go down it from above. He found the correct way to bypass without killing ourselves and we took a picture from the bottom. The picture doesn't do it justice but it was about a 50ft vertical drop from top to bottom. And of course, for bonus points, which cache was this on the way to? Quote Link to comment

+warmouse4000
Some pictures of the damage the fire has done from and around Pallets Galore , one of my favorite areas to start my hike into Sweetwater. The bush where the cache once hung An amazing little patch of barrel cactus that somehow survived Scorched earth No more pallets Sorry jahoadi and john, don't think this cache made it. Of course if you look at my history trying to find that cache there is a good chance it's still there and I just couldn't find it. Don't think many of the caches around there made it. If anyone needs some help checking out the status of there caches let me know. I'd be happy to check an area, join them, or even be the mule for carrying containers out. Quote Link to comment
+SD Rowdies
This just in ... Here's a shot contrasting the photos of local fire devastation with the autumn leaves of last week along Squaw Creek Trail south of McCloud, California. Just plug in GCW6E4 and hunt down "Not the PC Trail" cache in late October next. Roaring Squaw Creek and the blazing colors of big-leaf Maple trees is too much for words or photos. The caches of the Mt. Shasta area with few exceptions are five-star attractions. For example - Retirement is so boring. I took this shot of sunrise over Mt. Shasta from the master-bedroom balcony of our little shack in the forest. O, by the way, here's a shot of our little shack in the forest. Location, location, location .... +Let's Look Over Thayer
Wow! Great shots! I read about these puppies several years ago in an aviation magazine. Impressive planes but it's incredibly expensive to keep 'em flying. Getting spare parts for these ain't easy. In fact, according the article, they were about to be phased out. I guess someone somewhere found the money to keep two of them in the air. Good gosh ol' buddie, them'r'some shots. Pucker-time! For real pucker factor, consider the following: These things load water on the move. Instead of landing and coming to a full stop, the pilot keeps the aircraft "on the step" (planing across the water). A pair of scoops are lowered and the aircraft starts taking on water at about 1 ton per second. To keep the aircraft moving while this is happening, power has to be added to compensate for the added load of the water and to keep the aircraft planing across the water. In about 25 seconds, the aircraft is full and ready to go for it's next run! Quote Link to comment

But seriously, the caches in that area served as a perfect vacation guide to the natural and scenic wonders of northern California and southern Oregon. We did one LPC in Yakima at a Wal*mart and two or three urban micros in Mt. Shasta City. Otherwise it was about forty large containers along rivers and streams, on wooded mountains, and more. We kayaked several lakes and had them all to ourselves. As you can see the autumn colors were beyond expectations, according to locals the best fall colors in fifteen years. Not sure what to call the experience ... heaven on earth interrupted with an overnight thirteen-hour drive back to San Diego County for two or three days to take care of the loss of my dear, rasty old dad. Thirteen hours ... don't try it yourself, especially at my age. Of course I did have a little two-second nap at about 5:30 A.M. during the rush hour along the 210 near Pasadena. Snapped out of it to find myself really close to the rear end of a Jeep Wrangler just in front of me. Imagine if I had rammed the Jeep and it turned out to be a Geocacher! Two Geocaching couples spent ten days at the cabin with Sandy and I so we did have a mini Geocaching event with Baldy & Goldilocks, and Dave & Bonnie of Clari-netacache. Two doubles and two singles formed our kayaking flotilla ... old geezers laughing and frolicking along the trails and across the lakes of paradise. Dang! ... a month in paradise. +SD Rowdies
Kathy, So very sorry to learn of your Dad's passing, Harmon. I always enjoyed your stories about him, and especially the picture of him in uniform. Kathy, Thank you for the thoughtful card we received from you today. The loss has brought mixed feelings to Sandy and I; that is, a mixture of grief and relief, you know, relief of seeing him past his suffering and dread the last few weeks of his life. One thing good was that he and I spent countless hours putting his affairs in order over the past nine years. Even so I spent two weeks organizing and processing his lifetime of paperwork dating back to 1933 for some odd reason. Apparently he had no paperwork whatever between 1913 and 1933. Quite a trip down memory lane that task was. His generation never, ever threw a document away. In the end the stuff that really counted fit into a single file-folder. Today I also received a touching card from my granddaughter that lives in Mt. Shasta City, thanking us for sending a couple of my dad's things she wanted and will treasure. By the way, what's this we hear about you wearing a size-8 of late? Harmon & Sandy Quote Link to comment
