WH
With the exception of spam, duplicate threads, and test posts, when should a mod step in and close a topic? If there is a debate within a thread, as long as it remains civil and family friendly, when should a mod decide to close it down. I feel that even if keeps going in circles and people keep re-hashing the same point, is that alone valid grounds to close a topic? What guidelines are followed to determine that a civil ongoing discussion has outlived its usefulness and should be terminated? Quote Link to comment
+Hemlock
In the forums I mod, I use a couple of 12-sided dice that I have from my old D&D days. I roll them and if they come up with matching numbers, I close the thread. Ooooh! Snake eyes! You're lucky I'm not a mod here Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Guidelines are only a substitute for common sense. Quote Link to comment
+Seay me
Just my opinion here, but mods can shut a thread down when they want. /shrug. That's why they were assigned the responsibility, to use their judgment on what is or isn't appropriate. A private forum is not a democracy. Quote Link to comment
Hucklebuck
When anybody uses the "L" word the thread should be closed. Quote Link to comment

+Renegade Knight
When it turns into a free for all and discussion has quite and the debate is no longer over the topic or even the sub topic but is over "listen up you idiot, you took my words out of context, if you can't listen to what I typed, then just shut the hell up". If Jeremy types "Somebody needs a hug" it's getting close. Quote Link to comment
+BigHank
From what I understand, when you become a mod, you are issued a standard calibrated Angst meter, and whenever it gets into the red zone, it's time to close the topic. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
They should close a topic if it develops into a flame war. Other than that, it should die on its own. Quote Link to comment
+Corp Of Discovery
They should close a topic if it develops into a flame war. Other than that, it should die on its own. Your opinion sucks and you post too much. Did it work? Darn! Quote Link to comment

+BalkanSabranje
What guidelines are followed to determine that a civil ongoing discussion has outlived its usefulness and should be terminated? Why are you assuming/insinuating that 1. a discussion can be defined as useless (objectively)? 2. even if it were so this would be a reason to close a thread? BS/2 Quote Link to comment

Stony2008
I feel that even if keeps going in circles and people keep re-hashing the same point, is that alone valid grounds to close a topic? so then we have all these pointless threads are getting nothing accomplished ? I think the forum moderators know when the thread has had enough and its time to move on. either that or they have little dice they roll around to see if they need to close it or not.
