Finding Geocaching Supplies

Recommended Posts

I don't have tons of forum experience, so forom experts please don't berate me if this topic has been already discussed, just point me in the right direction. (I tried the search several ways, and didn't come up with anything like my idea) and I think this one could be an ongoing thread. Maybe even PIN worthy.

We all have had those times when we connot find the materials we want, or at the right price, so I wanted to start this thread to discuss good places anyone has discovered to get supplies.

I'll start it off with a simple one there's a website "www.identification-products.com" that has lamination supplies at way less than half what I've paid retail

I paid $16 for 100 ID sized sheets at office max, and here they have them for $4

I was looking for the very strong tiny magnets, and found what I needed at the dollar store (in the tips of the magnetic darts, which came two to a board for $1.00)

I'll share more ideas later, what deals have YOU FOUND???

For the magnets I would recommend KJ Magnetics as they sell the same magnets as Lee Valley, but for less $$$.

I haven't checked all of them, but the one I buy most frequently 1" by 1/8" rare earth magnet is cheaper at Lee Valley. LV sells them 5 for $8.95 (1.79 each) and K&J wants $2.05 each for them or 6 for 11.50 (1.91 each).

The other one I buy a lot (1/2 " x 1/8") is .80 each at both places. but Lee Valley sells them for .64 each if you buy 10 and K&J wants .75 each if you buy 10.

Granted not a lot of money, but of you placing a big order, you can save a couple bucks.

I just got some Rare earth magnets at a shop called "Woodworker" They are a chain that sell end wood working. They have been to their store in Rancho Cordova and have seen their store in Santa Rosa. I am sure they have other bay area stores. I think I paid around $6.00 for a package of ten magnets, They had them in the clock maiking dept.

edit ti add:

I found there URL and a link to the magnets-I had the name of the store wrong

it's called Woodcraft-they show stores also in Dublin and San Carlos

ebay is an incredible source for neodymium magnets in any of a number of sizes. search for that, then check the store websites for any of the listed vendors. they are incredibly cheap in bulk.

i'm fortunate enough to live close to 2 military bases, so ammo cans, etc.. are cheap and plentiful.

I've found some cool cache swag at Thrift Stores. Sometimes they bundle a whole bunch of items in one bag for only a few dollars. These things might vary from Beanie Babies to Yo-Yo's to a little calculator to collectible toy figures.

Looking for cool stuff this way is almost as fun as looking for the cache later . . . Well . . . not really. [<_<]

This is a good suggestion for a pinned topic, or to add them to the links page.

The "links" page set up by this site, is very limited to these types of services.

I would like to add this site that came up on a forum topic around here, for tiny compasses, Oriental Trading Company.

The prices are per dozen. I did order a few of them for trade items.

Can let you know the quality when I receive them.

They looked ok on the add, but the price was better.

I'm also thinking of making some kind of signature item with a few of them.

Are you talking about the discs?

KJ has the 1/2"x1/8" for .60 each or 56.5 for 10. I am referring to the D82.

I see that the 1" is more at KJ. Never bought that size myself. Those 1/2" buggers are pretty hard to get apart I would imagine the 1" are a real workout.
