+Preesi
What are Gnomads? They’re adventurous pocket-sized gnomes who love to travel. Once upon a time they were happy to hang around your garden or front lawn, but now they want to see the world and it’s up to you to send them on their way and document their adventures! Each Gnomad has a tracking number that guides you to its own unique webpage journal. Once registered, anyone who encounters your Gnomad on its travels can add photos to the journal and write about your Gnomad's exciting adventures. Check out The GNOMAD website and get your own: http://www.gnomads.net I just dropped one in a cache today! I DO NOT SELL THEM! Quote Link to comment

+zygote2k
did you say gonads? Quote Link to comment
+Eartha
Before anyone asks, no you won't get a smiley face, or any other icon added to your stats page for finding and moving one of these items. They are not geocaching related. Quote Link to comment
+Mopar
Travel bugs for muggles. I see Walmart is listed as a distributer (among PLENTY of other places), maybe Jeremy should look into these next time the site needs new servers? Sounds like it could be a mutually beneficial deal. +Camo-crazed
thats so cool. I wonder where the idea came from? Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
did you say gonads? I had to read it twice to get it right. These are like travertags only like the first Fords. Any Travel Bug you want as long as it's a Gnome. You know, someone should bring back pet rocks and put numbers on them. Then you can trow them in the dirt, in the river, wherever. When someone else finds arock with a number on it they can track it's travels. Then again, no. Edited December 19, 2004 by Renegade Knight Quote Link to comment

+CCATBQFM
Those are pretty neat. J saw some in the gift shop at the hospital I work in. I snuck over and bought him two which he plans to turn into TBs. S. Quote Link to comment
+Eartha
Now that I look at them again, they look like wandering ads for Travelocitydotcom. Edited December 20, 2004 by Eartha Quote Link to comment
+joefrog
I hate that there's a catch after the first year, but it IS a cool idea! Quote Link to comment
+Doc-Dean
Good if you're a muggle. I can see making one into a travel bug and tracking them on gc.com... Tracking TBs and Where's Georges are free though! Quote Link to comment
+KC0GRN
Hehe, just get one, add a TBug tag, and you won't have to worry about the year limitation Quote Link to comment
Wallaby77
I think the idea comes from the French Movie "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" or "Amelie" in its English subtitled version. Amelie's father always stays home and only dreams of travels. To inspire him to actually go ahead and travel, Amelie steals his gnome in his garden and sends it all over the world with her flight attendant friend who takes picture of the gnome in different countries and sends them to the father. Cool that someone thought of doing it for real! Quote Link to comment
+MissJenn
Preesi, I found your Gnomad! It's in my hands right now, but I have not yet decided to register to their site .... I just thought I'd use this thread to let you know he is well and happy. Quote Link to comment
+AtlantaGal
Hehe, just get one, add a TBug tag, and you won't have to worry about the year limitation A few local cachers here did just that. Last I heard they were awaiting their delivery. Should have them by now. Quote Link to comment

But if they have the same half life as our TB's have, they will only collect about 20 bucks from the 4 owners who still have active Gnomads after a year. Quote Link to comment
Smaug1
Those are cuter than Travel Bugs, but twice as expensive, and there is no special feature in geocaching.com to track them yet. I'm going to go with a Travel Bug I think. Quote Link to comment
Find Now, Log Later?
I hate that there's a catch after the first year, but it IS a cool idea! Well, I'd wager the life expectancy of these things to be around 6 months, so that shouldn't be much of a problem. Quote Link to comment
+AtoZ
thats so cool. I wonder where the idea came from? The orgional traveling Gnome started in England a number of years back. It seems some pranksters took a large garden nome and some how convenced folks to take it on travels around the world. There are picture of it all over and a webpage devoted to its exploits. The gnome is still out ther some place. cheers Quote Link to comment

I bought one of the Gnomads while Christmas shopping, and I do plan on adding a TB tag instead of relying on their system -- we'll see how far he goes! Quote Link to comment
