  1. Ok, sorry for the slow response. I seem to still be busier than I can seem to make time for. Honestly though I have no idea what I'm busy with, the days just seem to go by in a blur. Since there has been some interest in my list of non-trackable coins, here is what I have currently. There may be a few more, as I locate them. Again, I really have no idea on a value to these coins, so any trade offers are welcomed. Granted the age, if you are interested in a coin, and have a good reason for wanting it in your collection, but have nothing to trade, send me an email regardless. I might just send it to you knowing it's going to a good home, heh. I guess my real purpose is both getting rid of duplicates, and seeing that they get to someone who would appreciate having them. If I get something in return, great, if not, at least I have made a small amount of room in my overgrown collection, heh. Here's my list as of now. Feel free to ask questions, I can send pictures if you can't find any information on the coin you're interested in. Geocoins, Cache the Fever 2006, Bronze finish, Number 184 Texas Geocaching, Non dated (I'd estimate 2005), Number 1068 Rhode Island Geocaching Quahog, Non Dated (Also estimate 2005) Bronze finish, Number 099 Maine 2005 featuring Maine's first cache, GC128, shiny Nickel finish, 2 coins, numbered 1253 and 1744 North Carolina Geocachers Association 2005 (the back of this coin looks very similar to a Moun10bike Version 1 with the geocaching logo) Number NC00086 South Carolina Geocachers Association, Non Dated (estimate 2005), Number 1003 Central Coast Geocachers of California Cito coin, non dated (again estimate 2005), non numbered Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers 2005, 2 coins numbered 246 and 248 That's it for now, until I have more time to go over what I have. I think I have a few gc.com trackables to list as well, but that's a bigger project.
  2. Hey all, It's been a loooonnnngggggg time since I've poked my head in the forums here (or anywhere on the national geocaching forums for that matter). So I barely know much of the etiquette, or much else for that matter. I happened to go to the 2010 geocoinfest (well it was close to home for me, I haven't been caching much these days either) and was inspired to pull out my entire geocoin collection. I started before gc.com custom trackable coins were available. Back at that time, I was part of a geocoin purchasing group, in which every member received 2 to 3 coins of whatever the group happened to be buying. Therefore, I ended up with a lot of duplicate and triplicate coins. So now I'm interested in clearing out any duplicates I have left in my collection, both to make room, and to get some old coins back out in circulation. I'm not entirely sure of the value of a non-trackable coin (or if I'm even suppose to talk about such coins on gc.com forums), about all I can say is they're some of the first geocoins to be minted, and might be of some historic or intrinsic value? Anyways, I'm just starting to form a list of everything I have, so I wanted to get a baseline judgment from other geocoin collectors as to if making a list is worth my (and everyone else's) time, or if there really isn't an interest in older, non trackable, coins. Thanks for your time. -Joel
  3. I agree totally with all of this! I my opinion, Groundspeak are making A BIG MISTAKE by creating cache icons which are unobtainable to the majority. Consider this: A few years ago here in the UK, the country's most popular TV soap opera (Coronation Street) went from three episodes per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) to having one on Sunday evenings as well. Did this increase the viewing figures? No! Viewing figures dropped because people were busy doing other stuff on Sundays and they soon realized that if they missed Sunday's episode, they could live with missing the normal weekday ones as well... What I'm saying is, more icons = less interest. There are quite a few UK cachers who pride themselves with having found at least one of every cache type. Add in types that are not achievable, and interest in any other new types will dwindle as well Oh yes, we have set four Wherigo caches and on several occasions have lent our Oregon or PDA to cachers keen to do them but not having the necessary equipment. Mark Very, very, very well put. I've always thought the more plumbing you put in, the more issues you run into. I have lessened the amount of geocaching I have done in the past year or two (mostly due to numbers battles and cache challenges, huge caching trips and resulting neglect of my other day to day duties and interaction with my non-caching friends and family). Then I see recent events of more geo-elitism like giving people yet another opportunity to have something to lord over me, as if numbers weren't enough, and "leaderboards", now add to the list icon hunters... Yes, I can ignore them, but more to the point, why should I have to? I'm seriously considering with all these factors, why do I pay money for a premium membership? When I can't fully enjoy the sport, and have suffered a lot of disillusion with the game of late. Do I need a premium membership to go out and find a leisurely cache here and there when I get the urge to find one? Do I need pocket queries to load my gps with hundreds or thousands of caches if I only intend to find a couple? Do I need access to member-only caches? Do I need extra access to the site? Can I use my android phone and a geocaching app without a premium account, and still find the occasional cache? Perhaps it is fate that my yearly subscription is due soon. Perhaps someone can provide me some answers to make me want to keep paying. Money usually speaks more than words, and it's nice to have the option. I'm not upset, nor mad, nor irrational. I'm just asking the questions because they're all fair points, and open for logical discussion.
  4. Hmm.. I hope they don't start making one time only icons... I've enjoyed having one small victory (since I've long since given up on a full set of trackables icons, at this point that's almost a ludicrous prospect) in geocaching. Then again, I haven't done as much caching recently as I used to either.. I'll just have to let it go, and know the sport I enjoyed was far simpler than what it is evolving into. To each their own of course. And I know with every venture, things have to grow. Regardless, I'll always consider myself a geocacher. The only time that would ever change is if my fellow geocachers ever start turning up their noses at me because I don't do this or that or have this or that. I just enjoy finding stuff in the woods
  5. Congrats on getting them in! I can't wait till they're up on coins and pins for sale (I'm so far out of the geocoin world these days, I really don't have anything to trade).
  6. They had the same contest here in the Twin Cities back in April-May. I have a few of those pennies myself (same design and everything). They also had trackable geocoins for the first 5 people that found the cache, I was lucky enough to get one. And I even managed to win one of the drawings for a GPS!!!
  7. I haven't bought a coin in a while, but considering I'm a big hitchhiker's fan, I'll have to get one. Hopefully it'll have a 42 in the tracking code
  8. Any word on when these will be available?
  9. Ahh. I had been waiting for this to come out. I have a Rino 130 that I purchased when they just came out in 2004. I saw the 530 and said I would wait until one came out with an sdcard slot. Now I just have to wait until I have the $$$
  10. There ya go, ya heard it from the man himself. Have the Geocoinfest 2008 in Minnesota, get a chance to meet the King of cache density
  11. I guess that depends on what people define a quality cache to be. Speaking from experience, there is alot of variety around the area. If you're looking for Scenic, most of the caches along the Mississippi and St. Croix riverfronts are great, also some of those offer the more challenging terrain. If you're looking for inventive containers, Posen's caches in Roseville are great. Clever hides and camo? Mutsley & Crew in the Woodbury/Oakdale area are fun to find. Humorous? Paklid has some great caches for that (also Posen's fit well). Cache Series? King Boreas has that covered. Puzzles? Paklid and Pfaulstad have a ton of great ones to try. Park and Grabs? There are always those around everywhere. Everything I mentioned is just a reasonable drive from Stillwater, and I think you'd find plenty of locals willing to take you around the area to cache (I'd even volunteer myself).
  12. If the timing works out, I'm betting I could convince the King to make an appearance if the event ends up being held in Minnesota
  13. Yeah, late spring/early summer would probably be a good time for an event held anywhere. Early June would probably be a great time. Temps are perfect that time of year in most places, bugs aren't too bad then (usually), kids are out of school, no big holidays then, etc. Let us know if there's any other questions about the Minnesota/Stillwater area, I'll be happy to do my best to answer them.
  14. Being a Minnesota Native, I can answer that one as well. The cache density in Stillwater is okay, not a ton, but if there are people interested in a big numbers run, there are plenty of caches within a short (15-20 minute) drive into the Twin Cities metro area. There's as much variety in the caches here as there are no doubt in any other part of the US. Stillwater is also close enough to the MN/WI border that anyone looking to add two more states to their states cached in would find that a very doable thing. And yes, there is even a cache at the Mall of America, a great place for the non geocachers/geocoin collectors in your family.
  15. I would like to get a coin that represents Sweden, as a nice compliment to my Norwegian coin. I'm part both, and have always had an interest in my heritage. That said, whomever makes it, that'd be cool. Nicer if someone from there made it, but better to have one than not. That of course doesn't mean if 5 different parties all decided to make a different coin that I would buy every one out there, as I've learned there's so many coins being made these days, just for the sake of making a coin to sell. Alas, that's not what this topic is about though. Since it's the first time I've heard of a Swedish coin being discussed (I honestly don't have time to look through all the forums to see if it has been before or elsewhere) I'd get one of these if they're made.
  16. Excellent, that was a quick response! So I'm out of trades now, thanks everyone, hope anyone that wanted a slug, got a slug
  17. I got an extra still. Interesting offers are welcomed (I'd really like to get a crop circle coin if someone has one available for a trade).
  18. I'll take a set of four.
  19. Got mine yesterday. Mine was in the nickel finish, so a touch different than the posted picture, but it was a pleasant surprise, given there are less of those than the antique silver. I see a few of my fellow Minnesotans got them, cool I'll have to see them at an event sometime. BTW, also received word from my norwegian counterpart, Blazius, that he's sending me one of these coins to start off in the international cache exchange we did a year or so ago, so look for one to be circulating in Minnesota for a while.
  20. Well I can't speak for anyone else, but it sounds like a very worthy cause. I'll send an email with an offer on a few coins. Obviously I can't make a big dent in that amount myself, but I'm sure every lil bit helps. Good luck, hope things turn out well for ya and your horse!
  21. I also had the 7digit waypoint code problem. although I encountered a different oddity when entering ths waypoint. GC1032C It pulls up waypoint GCG0V6, which I found odd.. Some sort of translation issue? Anyways, hope it helps the diagnosis.
  22. updating my list for ones that are reserved (striked out) As for coins I'm interested in, I have a pretty big list, but take a look at my trackables owned on my profile, I'm probably interested in anything I don't have. I've got two lists, trackable coins and untrackable (I'd be happy to trade an untrackable for another untrackable coin, let me know and I can tell you if I have it or not). All are qty 1 unless stated Trackables: Long Island Geocaching First Edition 2006 North Carolina New Mexico Maryland 2005 New Jersey Untrackables: Maine 2005 (2) Wisconsin Timber Coulee 2005 (2) Texas 2005 South Carolina North Carolina KTAG Rhode Island Central Coast Geocachers of California (Monterey Bay) 2005 Central Coast Geocachers of California (Hard to make out, but I believe it was their 2005 CITO coin) Texas Geocaching Autumn 2005 Gold Finish (2) Washington 2005 (This one has a nick in the protective enamel on the mount st. helens side, just thought I should point that out) Geocoins - Cache the Fever 2006 (Bronze)
  23. I've kinda been off the trading circuit for a while, but thought I'd start clearing out my extras.
