It all made sense to me in his original post. Having that sort of thing would be pretty cool. TB hotels are all over, but a giant hotel full of trackable tradables is a good idea. There are all sorts of themed caches, why not that one?

Good luck with your project, ALgeocacher.

I must apologize for my post in the original thread. Unfortunately I misunderstood the purpose, and before I got a chance to clarify things, I got flamed unmercifully. That's the chance you take when you try to post an honest opinion and are misunderstood. Good luck with the cache, edd or AL, whichever one is doing it.

PS: Next time you think someone is badmouthing an idea, ask first before flaming. Fewer threads will get closed that way. ;)

That sounds like a great idea. Sadly I had a TB hotel vanish a few months ago with about 10 bugs in it. I figured the location was perfect but that goes to show you. I also have a cache on my property and it sure makes keeping track of it easier. My dogs let me know whenever anyone is close to the cache.

Yep Al got nailed on that thread which only goes to show you the heart of some people.

What will you call it? How about Trackable Items Cache or Traveller's Cache or Hitchhiker's Cache?

Next time you want to badmouth an idea, make sure you understand it in the first place. Fewer threads will get closed that way. B)

I really liked youre idea too. While there are no TB Hotels in my immidiate area there is 1 or 2 geo/bookcrossing caches (though one is full of rotting books and needs to be trashed out after the 18inches of snow melts ;) ).. anyway.. I really liked this idea, and am going to place one in my area this spring. B) Thanks for the idea AlCacher.. I even have a cool name picked out (cool to me anyway) based on the movie Congo... :D Don't be afraid to post your ideas, even if they have been heard before, they haven't been heard by EVERYONE, and someone might like it enough to use it..

There are always going to be those kind of people who speak up on every single topic, even though they don't know anything about it, have nothing productive or nice to say. Just ignore them (most people do anyway). Cachers in general are alot nicer then people in these forums act.

Look for a new cache from me in 3-4 months. B)

Make sure you give AL props when you place your cache.

My apologies for this inane waste of your time but I just want to clarify this since my wife and I are still planning this cache. We're down to picking the perfect spot in the park at this point. Basicly the last thing I want is someone claiming I stole the idea from Al since it involves a mixture of bookcrossing and TB hotels.

That being out of the way, a few chunks of reality need to enter the system.

In order to seed a TB hotel Al is either going to have to create a decent number of TB's or gather a lot of TB's in a very short period of time (in order to avoid claims of "hording" or not moving TBs in a timely manner). How to seed such a cache is something that definately needs thinking about.

The container for a such a cache needs to be large enough to hold all the items (books and TBs aren't small) but because of the perceived value of the items (TBs are cherished by their owners) it needs to be very well hidden. It needs to pass the "muggle" test as well as the "Tom Sawyer" test.

(Would it be found by a Muggle? No. Good. Now would it be found by Tom Sawyer? Not all kids are couch potatoes who stay on the paved trails and avoid the mud. Would a modern Tom Sawyer find this cache? If so, should this cache be trusted to hold large numbers of Travel Bugs?)

At this point there is a new cache within 180 feet of Al's only previous find (which is now archived). Personally, I would be a lot more confident in his ability to create a cache designed to hold travel bugs if he used his new GPS and logged his first find with a GPS. I realize it's probably cold as hell there right now, but if you can't find a cache this time of year than I suspect that you can't maintain one either.

Yes its cold here but thats not whast stopping me from caching latly. I searched for a cache about a week ago and I didnt find it. because it was a multi I found the first part but didnt quite get all the clues right to find the final. But whats really been holding me from finding caches now is my busy schedual. Nid terms comign up means more studing. Plus it gets dark very early and I dont get home from school till about 4 (getting dark at 5) gives me an hour to get my things togethor leave the house and find the cache. Plus my parents dont get home until 6ish leaving me with no ride till then. But next weekend I plan to find some. I would say this weekend but I must study for midterms.

hey, bons, I was joking (note the "winky"). I think the ideas shared here are for all of us, not just any one cacher. we're one big community, continually evolving the game. :D no "stealing" is being done.

good luck!
