  1. ROFL! I love it! We'll definitely keep a look out for those guys. I'm sure they're a little angry with me after the whoopin I just gave them.... Hope I didn't spoil anything, I just finished reading the latest book in the series. Thanks to all for the suggestions. To flesh out things a bit: We love hiking. We love caches where it is more involved than just driving up to a light post in a parking lot. We prefer parks and trails, that kind of thing. We definitely have non-caching activities planned for the honeymoon, so don't worry about that guys. I'm 28, Faile is 24, so we're looking for fun things in that age range.... I'm sure we'll end up spending time on the beach. Faile wants to find a place to go horse back riding. Dancing is a must since we've been taking dance lessons for the last 5 months and will be continuing those after the wedding. Disney World is probably going to be hit at some point. I'm not sure how many days we'll invest in that. Oh yeah, we'll be there for a week. Thanks Perrin
  2. Faile and I are getting married July 8th and we're going to Florida for our Honeymoon. I was hoping we could get some suggestions about must see locations (for caching and otherwise). We will be staying at a resort SW of the Orlando international airport. 1. What are some of the best caches in the Orlando area? 2. What are some of the best tourist/site seeing places? 3. Great places to eat. 4. Little known places that only locals know about, but everyone should see. 5. Tours, shows, events, places to dance. 6. Anythings that is fun that you think we should know about Thanks in advance for your ideas!
  3. I usually just wear what ever I happen to be wearing when I go out the door. If it is going to be an extended day of caching I'll wear an older pair of jeans rather than my newer ones, but otherwise, if I'm wearing shorts and don't find out until its too late that some bushwhacking is involved, I'll just jump right in and hope there isn't any poison ivy/oak in there.
  4. ROFLMAO!!! Yeah Ellylidan, we've been there and considered it, but we didn't think that Peg would make an appropriate brides maid. Maybe we'll bring the kids by in a few years once we have some
  5. Based on online information, this seems to be Faile's favorite for the moment. We'll have to find a time to go check it out, but that probably won't be until this summer. We've enjoyed looking into all the suggestions that have been made. This will probably be my last attempt at prodding you all for last minute suggestions. So if there are any more well kept secrets out there, lets here them Thanks again!
  6. Interesting idea. I had thought of doing something similar, but I just never got around to putting it together.
  7. Having owned a PDA from palm and the PPC operating system families, I have to suggest going for the PPC. They generally cost more, but the operating system is compatible with the better programs (or versions of programs) that you'll want to download and use. I had a Zire something or other that I loved until it got stolen... Then I decided to try a PPC model and I like that even more! Fewer programs involved to do what you want to do and they are easier to use.
  8. You might be a geocacher if you tell yourself you are just brushing up on your cache finding skills while tearing up the house looking for the TV remote. (feel free to substitute keys, glasses, a child's toy, or anything else you tend to lose)
  9. I suppose you could log it if you wanted. It won't bother me in the least But from looking at the logs for events that I've been to, I might wonder "why bother?" Usually the people posting logs on event caches are doing so for 2 reason: 1. To say they were there and had a great time and 2. To say thank you to the host for setting the whole thing up. So as the planner: You set it up, you know you were there, you don't really need to thank yourself for setting up the event, you already got credit for the hide, and do you really want to get an e-mail from GC saying you posted a note to your own event cache? Everything you post in that cache page really says it all already. Now, I must make one exception here.... If there are people that have the event on their watch list, then they would see your post in their e-mail rather than having to bring up the cache page again.
  10. April and I thought that the Thornewood Castle one was pretty cool. Then I made the mistake of speaking before thinking and telling her that was where the filmed Steven King's Rose Red.... Silly me. Now she thinks that is just too creepy. I may still be able to convince her, but until that time, I think we'll have to keep looking. Great suggestions all around so far. Can we find some more? Thanks to everyone for all the help so far!!! EDIT to fix spelling issues
  11. We actually thought about this one. Having been here before and all Any others?
  12. Thanks for the suggestions. We'll look into those. Any others out there?
  13. Faile wants to have an outdoor wedding. So we're looking for a good location (plenty of parking, no nearby train tracks, etc.) We're hoping that some one out there has come across some good locations that you could suggest. If there are pictures of the location that would be good, or at least coords, or a link to a cache page so that we could go out there and take a look for ourselves.
  14. I could care less if there are parking coords or not. Except for the fact that gas prices are now ridiculously high and getting higher. So from a financial perspective it would be nice to have accurate driving and parking directions.
  15. Wow! Thanks guys. This is the first time I really took a look at this thread. Thanks for all the nice words about our 500th find! Oh and for the proposal too... should I have said that the other way around? We had a great time getting to 500 and 501 was a kick too since it was our first find as an engaged couple Faile really enjoyed seeing that written in the cache log. It was even funnier when we got home to log the finds and discovered some one had found sealrockers-1 before we could post our logs online. Thanks again. We'll see you all on the trails!
  16. Faile and I were hunting for a multi that took you all over town. The point was to see who could complete the cache in the shortest amount of time. We got to the final location and check the watch and saw that we had 3 minutes to find the cache if we wanted to beat the old record. About 30 seconds before the deadline Faile yells that she found it... but it was just a letterbox Turns out that this cache that was about 150 feet by 50 feet had 2 caches and a letterbox hidden in it.
  17. Hey cool bitbrain, Faile loved the picture. But now she wants to see a Faile drawing Thanks for all the warm comments... well and the sarcastic ones too.
  18. LOL, I forgot about that! Actually no, that won't be a problem. Her parents both love me. And I asked them for their blessing before I asked Faile, so I'm feeling pretty confident about not having to watch out for assassination attempts
  19. O.k. so I asked her last week, but who's counting. We spent the weekend of the 25th out on the coast. Found our 500th cache, sealrockers-1 (GCHTQ4), and while there I surprised her with the ring. We're planning on setting a date for some time next summer, but it is still undecided whether or not to include coordinates along with the address Feel free to check out our posted logs: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f3-6ffde0a514c6 There are a couple pictures to go along with the logs.
  20. I started with a Geko 201 over a year ago and haven't felt the need to upgrade. The only disadvantage to this model ( and the 101) is that they run on AAA batteries. If you don't care about that, then its a good choice IMHO. If I were to upgrade I would pick one of the Garmin models. Again that's just opinion. But I like them because they are generally more compact then the Magellans I've looked at. If you don't care about mapping capabilities, the less expensive ones work fine. I have a PPC that I use for maps and download all my cache locations onto that, so I don't need that feature in a GPS.
  21. If a muggle asks what I'm doing, I tell them I'm looking for my contact. If they ask why I'm looking for my contact in a bush, I tell them I thought I saw a squirrle run in there with it. If they ask how I saw the squirrle if I didn't have my contact in, I tell them to stop bothering me. But seriously, download on of Cybrets things. They are really nice.
  22. I had a similar idea, but haven't had the time or appropriate location to make it work. Go for it!
  23. I have to say that the term "muggles" has been in use as every day cacher vocab in my area pretty much since I started. Which was over a year ago. I'm not sure why that has to be refered to as "geeky". True it was pretty much ripped off from Harry Potter, but calling Harry Potter geeky is very much going against the mainstream view at the moment. You can use other terms if you want, though. No one is forcing you to use it. So what other terms are you having a problem with?
  24. WOW 5-7 waypoints... Sounds like a lot of work (for you and the finder), not to say that is a bad thing. You seem to have the idea you want well planned out. I would say that having trade items at all the wp's is unnecessary. You can do it if you want to, but it might confuse people into thinking they found the cache when they actually just found a wp. I have to say that the most wp's I've seen on a cache (that I've done) was 4. Since you say multi's are in short supply in your area, you might consider breaking it up into two 3 part multi's. That way you could place 2 new caches on the same trail system. Or you could have one multi with 3 or 4 wp's, then create a mystery cache that requires finding all the wp's from the previous cache to get the information to figure out the coords for the mystery cache. Another thing to think about is the distance you are having people walk to find the cache. Three miles in means three miles back to the car, unless the trail makes a loop. I only bring this up because I don't remember you mentioning that. This could discourage a lot of cachers. Personally I would be all for the hike, it sounds like fun! But I'm one of those crazy cachers that will race out and go for the FTF on a cache that was placed on the top of a mountain, even if it requires an 11 mile round trip hike. In closing I would say go for whatever idea you like the most. Just be careful you keep all your wp coords straight!
