+Mark 42
[RANT] I saw one cache log where a guy had taken a keychain and left a quarter from his home state. I was curious, so I looked at other logs by the same person... sure enough, a few keychains and pens and such taken in exchange for state quarters. I mean, you could call an ordinary one a "Hard to find 1992 quarter", but it's still only worth 25 cents! [/RANT] Edited November 26, 2003 by Mark 42 Quote Link to comment
+parkrrrr
I mean, you could call one a "Hard to find 1992 quarter", butit's still only worth 25 cents! If you have a State quarter from 1992, it's probably worth a bit more than 25 cents. Quote Link to comment
Fakk 2
Actually its worth a few years in prison because its Counterfeit. Quote Link to comment
+Mark 42
I may have the only picture of a Washington State quarter... if they select my artwork as the design (judging is in 2005). I'm no artist, so it'd really be quite a feat for me. I just sorta sketched & refined a few times, and it came out really good, which blew my doors off. It started as a concept, and I just built the elements into one graphic. I was amazed... it was beyond what I consider to be my own talent level. I guess every idiot has moments of lucidity, eh. [/RANT] Keychains and pens are often given away for free, state quarters sometimes sell for $2.50 in stores. One man's meat.... Try to leave the zero-sum sensibility at home and enjoy the hunt. +Confucius' Cat
"Took keychain, left quarter" "Took keychain, left McToy" Take your pick At least they got a quarter. Worth a lot more than the typical McToy. "It aint about the tradin'" Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
OK, I've seen a lot of bad trades out there, but a quarter for a pen, or keychain? Gimme a break, what's so bad about that? Now a quarter for a mini Mag Lite might be worth whining over. Quote Link to comment

Swagger
I leave statehood quarters sometimes, but they're always in mint condition (which doesn't mean much these days - have you seen the quality of the coins coming out of the mints lately?!) and protected by either a plastic flip or a cardboard fold-and-staple. I occasionally leave a more interesting coin. I also rarely ever actually trade - I usually either TNLN or leave something without taking anything in return. Quote Link to comment
+ChrisCindy
Take the quarter and leave a keychain to bring the balance back if you need to. Edited November 27, 2003 by Chris&Cindy Quote Link to comment
Team Cthulhu
I don't really think quarters are a trade down. I mean, other items might have been purchased for more, but really wouldn't be worth anything if you ever tried to sell it! How much is a keychain worth, really? I don't see a problem! +Doc-Dean
Uh oh... yesterday I left a state quarter and took a keychain! Is that bad?? Quote Link to comment
Team Italian Greyhound
The next person to find that cache might be DYING of thirst, and only have one quarter in their pocket. At that moment, finding that quarter, might be worth a keychain, or flashlight, or CD for that matter. For then, they can get something to drink! Patrick Quote Link to comment

I found the cache they were looking for this afternoon! It had 1/2 a bottle of water. I guess if you were really dying of thirst... Edited November 28, 2003 by Wulfster Quote Link to comment

+Confucius' Cat
This is a good one! But it was a STATE quarter! Who leaves a Fiver in a cache anyway? Whats up with that? Fiver leavers log (ficticious, meant as humor) "took everything in cache, left $5, will revisit in a month or so and take the rest (change)". Quote Link to comment
