  1. Awhile back I read about the card game geohack-unfortunately I can't find any information in the archives. So-whose geohacking? Anyone have any links to rules and/or cards? I am pretty excited about placing a geohack encounter pack soon, so I want to get some more info! Melissa
  2. I don't really think quarters are a trade down. I mean, other items might have been purchased for more, but really wouldn't be worth anything if you ever tried to sell it! How much is a keychain worth, really? I don't see a problem!
  3. Even though I am the main geocacher in the house my son (19 months) and husband usually accompany me, hence the name team cthulhu. I actually picked the name because I thought I liked the sound of it... I would say a team is a group of people that share a GPSr. Melissa
  4. I just had an older kiddie carrier, but I stopped using it a few months after he turned a year old, because he's too darn heavy! Not to mention that he gets sick of being in there for to long. I just started going on short caches that he can walk most of.. I don't know where you are located but a Cabela's just opened up in Hamburg, PA they have anything the discerning outdoorsman or woman could want- AND you can actually try on the baby carriers before you buy them. The newer varieties are probably more comfortable, but you can't do much about the fact there will be over 25 pounds of weight on you back(who will probably be shifting the whole of her weight from oneside of your back to another!! Just think about it- I bought an expensive bike trailer and my son refuses to go in it, he wants to ride his own bike-even though his feet don't even touch the pedals yet! Thats kids for you-gotta love them! Melissa
  5. The first cache I placed was a virtual-its been a success so far! I would agree with the other posters-Ignore the person who sent that email to you. For them to assume that their own opinion is held by evey other geocacher in the world is a bit conceited, to say the least!
  6. Thanks for your response- i checked out the previous post which left me feeling even more ambivalent towards the issue than before- Let me ask- who did you contact? Did you just go to a park ranger station, or make a phone call? Anytime I deal with government entities by phone it seems like I just get bumped around from person to person and nobody knows whats going on...
  7. I want to place a cache, but am hung up on the whole getting permission thing- anyone have any advice or stories- good or bad -on dealing with officials? Do most people get permission or just place them and hope for the best? There is a form for the state parks, but what about the smaller ones?
  8. I felt pretty lame when my first post to these boards was "markwelled." Most other discussion boards I frequent don't have a search feature... my pride was hurt a bit, but I suppose if one has been here for awhile newbies posting the same played-out topics can get irritating after awhile.
  9. chelsey, you should check out the cthulhu live yahoo group or PST productions site. PST productions travels over the country setting up Cthulhulive games at conventions- I am sure they make it to FLA once in a while..and yeah, so far all of the games we have held have been peroid pieces- one set in New Orleans in the 20's, Misskatonic frat party set in the 80's and the last one was set in the 30's- we thankfully have a group full of people who like to ham it up in the costume department. Knights of the dinner table is one of my favorite comics right now!! that game you are working on, Jolly, sounds really interesting. I have a few ideas about a local CL game that incorporates a GPSr, unfortunately I am the only one of my friends who has one so far. I can't believe Jolly R Blackburn responded to one of my posts!! I feel so privledged-can't wait to tell my husband!!! Hoody Hoo!!
  10. I read in some past posts about people being annoyed about happy meal toys, but I don't think it would necessarily be bad. I generally don't eat at MickyD's but sometimes think they have good toys- it would definitely be healthier to geocache for a toy than eat the meal(hopefully my son will feel the same way when he's old enough to articulate his opinions!!) No offense to those that eat there, of course- almost everyone i know, including my husband eats that stuff...
  11. Nationwide? hmmm..this could get interesting. I want to get a few caches under my belt before I start planning much, but I will keep you posted. The possibilities do seem exciting though. I am glad to know there are some fellow gamers out there! Rocket-propelled grenade? Hah! I suppose that would be an explosive combination! Melissa
  12. Anyone out there into role-playing games? We put on a Live-action-role-playing game a few times a year called Cthulhu Live and thought it would be fun to some how combine the two things together- Has anyone tried this? I know these are two pretty obscure hobbies so I doubt there has been much crossover, but I thought I check... I thought it might also be interesting to get groups of geocachers together and have competitions or something.
  13. hey I am hopefully going to go hunting for my first cache(got an etrex for Xmas from my husband!!) this weekend and wanted everyones opinion/ideas on what is/isn't good to put in a cache. I got that used golfballs and McDonald toys are definitely irritating to most people. What about old magazines? I have not-too-old issues of Spin and Parents, I think someone might be interested in reading, but am not sure if thats a good idea or not. Other than that I am thinking perhaps books and used cds. Any ideas for good items for those on a very tight budget? I
