  1. My great gread-dad ran a little sawmill and logged his whole life. The mill had a BIG saw blade (48" or 60" I don't remember). The individual teeth came off so they could be changed if damaged too much. So I have a bunch of these old saw teeth, I leave one of them, in a ZL bag with a little card explaining why in each cache I find. Patrick
  2. I have done some EXTENSIVE research. Posting in the forums, looking at webpages, blah, blah, blah. I have decided, MY new GPS will be a Meridian Gold. (I'd like the Platinum, but money won't permit it) The Gold is about $200 as best I can tell, and it seems to have everything I want. That is my thoughts on the subject. Patrick
  3. Thanks for everyones info. I did some (ok lots) of searches on those three models, and got some info. I was pretty much ready to buy a Meridian, but now with what Vlad says....I don't know. I just don't have the cash to get one of the high priced units right now. And just how much memory will I need to load, say the southern half of Indiana ?? thanks Patrick
  4. You could try this: http://www.jewelweed.com/orderie.html I haven't used it, but have used jewel weed in the wild and it does give some relief. Patrick
  5. I try to find SOMEWHERE a little more "private" than the trail. But I'll go where I have to.... thankfully, since I have a new baby, we have babywipes in supply in the truck. Patrick
  6. Vest and hat are a good idea, that is what hunters are supposed to do. You should be able to check on your states DNR webpage and find out when hunting seasons are in your state. Patrick
  7. Really hoping someone could enlighten me on this stuff. Patrick
  8. Hi all, I know this has been gone over and over, but I have a few questions you all can answer I think. I'm looking in the Magellan Meridian, Garmin Legend area, but then there is the SporTrak Map.... As to the Meridian vs. SporTrak: Meridian has memory cards that can be exchanged, but how is the SporTrak's memory "done"? They both have 2mb of memory on board. But what is meant by "Uploadable memory limits"? The Meridian is 128mb, and the Map is 6mb. Does the Meridian have a "finer" resolution (120x160 vs 160x104) I see the Legend has 288x160. Does this mean the screen is larger, or is it finer resolution? And the Legend comes with the PC cord. Anything else between these 3 that should/could influence my decision? Thanks, Patrick
  9. The next person to find that cache might be DYING of thirst, and only have one quarter in their pocket. At that moment, finding that quarter, might be worth a keychain, or flashlight, or CD for that matter. For then, they can get something to drink! Patrick
  10. You are recorded anytime you go into public places, sometimes with your knowledge and sometimes without it. Hasn't anyone seen "Enemy of the State" (I think that's the one) Patrick
  11. You could get one of these: http://www.jensentools.com/product/group.asp?parent_id=68370 Patrick
  12. My wife usually goes with me, but stays in the car while I get out and hike the trails. I can't see how this is much fun for her, but that is what she wants to do. As soon as our baby is older, I'm going to carry her in a pack with me too. Maybe then mom will want to go more. Patrick
  13. Something I've thought of using for micro caching is medication bottles. They come in many different sizes, some are very large!
  14. From the looks of that picture, you should'a had a V8! POC Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  15. I reported a benchmark as being "destroyed" because it was actually stated as being the "...apex of the roof of the glass-enclosed cab." This tower doesn't exist anymore. Wouldn't it be considered destroyed? POC Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  16. I'm looking into a Meridian, and they have it for $129, the next cheapest is $149 at Harmony. Magellan Meridian Gold 500 Waypoints, 20 Routes PC Cable Included. With 16 MB, US Database. 980598-02. $279 Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  17. I'm going to start leaving saw teeth. From a large circular saw (~48"-60") used in sawmills. My great-grand father owned a sawmill, and I have lots of these teeth! Patrick Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  18. Does anyone do this, so people know why you use a certain item. I was thinking of putting my item in a baggie, with a paper as to why I chose it, and putting that in caches. Thanks again, Patrick Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  19. I was thinking of using my great-grandparents as one, and my grandparents as another. I could probably even leave the cache in plain view and no one would bother it. (maybe) There are some "unusual" ones around here too, I'll have to look into too... Thanks again Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  20. Thanks for everyones replies. I did a search for "graveyards or grave yards or cemetary" on the site, and only found 1 in a thread... Thanks again... Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  21. Yea or Nay? I'm talking about rural ones, old ones, up in the woods kind, not huge town cemetaries. Patrick Team Italian Greyhound N9PRY
  22. Actully, I have a GMC.... ZR2 Sonoma, it will go just about anywhere! I'll look at some prices. Thanks for your inputs. Patrick
  23. Hi all, love this site. I'm new to GPS's all together... I would like to get one, but am not really sure what I should get. I have read info on this site and others about what to look for for different uses, but haven't found just what I'm looking for. Here's what I'd like to do. I have 300 acres I live on. I'd like to have a GPS that I can upload/download waypoints from my PC. I'd also like to put topo software on my PC that I can upload my routes, waypoints and points of interest to. I'd appreciate any ideas you all have. Cost is a problem, so the cheapest unit that will do this would be great. Thanks! Patrick
