+MedicP1
Sad and spooky that the second shuttle disaster happens only days after the anniversery (Feb 28)of the first shuttle explosion. The crew of this one even held a moment and words, in space/obit, in memory and dedication of the first shuttle loss. Hopefully the world recognizes this crew's sacrifices and learns from it, maybe trying to reduce the space debris orbitting our giant geocache called Earth. GPSr's...A step in the right direction! +RB_Nielsen
Did I hear it right - first shuttle exploded 16 minutes after take-off, and this one 16 minutes before landing? How sad, how tragic - we pray for the families. Quote Link to comment
+carleenp
I don't think Challenger was 16 minutes after takeoff. Maybe 16 or 160 seconds? I actually don't have any idea, but I know it wasn't 16 minutes. I saw a replay of it on the news today and remember when it happened. It was around a minute or two or three maybe. Challenger exploded 73 seconds after lift off. I'm sure what you heard will become the stuff of many forwarded emails in the coming months, however. Interesting (and sad) coincidences: Apollo 1 pad fire : 27 Jan 1967 Challenger explodes : 28 Jan 1986 Columbia explodes : 1 Feb 2003 *sigh* A very sad day. ----- Memory is a prism through which yesterday's light is passed. +Breaktrack
Another sad loss for our nation, and the world. People are out there doing very dangerous things in our name, I am humbled by their sacrifice and dedication. "Trade up, trade even, or don't trade!!!" My philosophy of life. Quote Link to comment
