+High Desert Fish
I would like to know where I can purchase a fake rock that will work as a mini cache. It would have to be larger than a key rock. Any thoughts? L Quote Link to comment
Tikiroy
Bumping this cause it's a great idea!!! Why mini??? Someone should get busy on this and make up all sizes. Much better than those ammo boxes and so clandestine...I love it!!! Quote Link to comment
+Brian - Team A.I.
Make one. Take some paper mache (sp?) and fashion a mold...If you want, use a REAL rock to mold it around, let it harden, and pour in some concrete, while creating a cache container by fusing in a magnetic keyholder, or some other container that will allow you to slip a lid into to seal it. You could do that with a number of sized to accomodate just about anything. You could use quart paint cans for 'mid-size' rocks, and pint cans for smaller ones perhaps. Just a thought. Swagger
I've been thinking about this for a while. I was thinking that you could get one of those fake "movie" rocks that are made of foam, hollow it out, waterproof it and then put some type of container in it. -- Random fortune: Quote Link to comment
Captain Chaoss
You should then hide it in a gravel quarry, set up a hidden cam, or web cam ( send me the url please ) and we'll all have a good laugh. Two roads diverged in the woods and I, I took the one less traveled, and that is how I found the cache. Quote Link to comment
bug and snake
You need to check out our first two caches if you ever get a chance. They are not rocks but the principle of 'natural' hides has proved to be a good one. I wish I hadn't posted this in a way coz it is a sort of a spoiler for the caches. I wonder if I can go back and get rid of it? (grin) Quote Link to comment
+Kouros
A recent cache of mine was hidden in a clay stone (a 35mm pot with the end poking out). At the time I thought it was pretty clever, but it got plundered within 24 hours. Might have had something to do with the fact that it was terracotta coloured, and I hid it amoungst a pile a flint. ------ An it harm none, do what ye will Quote Link to comment
+TEAM 360
Get a decent sized rock from the area, and go to work on the bottom side of it with a chisel and hammer from Home Depot. You can epoxy a micro up underneath, and the clearance will be perfect. Quote Link to comment
+Wander Lost
Keep watching the Groundspeak shop. I saw a preview of a container that will be available soon. They are awesome!!! We're all here, because we're not 'all there'. Quote Link to comment
+BeOnTheLookOut
They sell those pipe covers that are shaped and painted to look like a large rock at home repair stores. I admit that they look kind of fake, but you maybe able to paint it or something to make it blend in with the surrounding area. I believe it is large enough to fit an ammo can under. +Jennifer&Dean
Try garden supply stores or fabric/craft stores, we found a medium sized, hollow, plastic rock-a garden decoration- that looks enough like a rock from behind that we had to buy it. It looks real & great up on our shelf and we laugh every time we think about placing it! -Jennifer ************************************ According to his or her personal experience, each person must decide by himself or herself where they have been. Some of these are expensive! http://outbreakcorp.hypermart.net/animation/pokemon/pokeanim3.gif Yeah thats them. I figure if you stick it out in the middle of a forest with no other rocks around it would look out of place, but if you were to place it near a creek bed or some place similar it may blend in more. +GeneralBracket
I was thinking of Dremeling out the underside of a real mid-sized rock (a foot or less in diameter) and epoxying a 4" screw top ABS cap up under it. Good size and hard as hell to find (depending on where you put it of course). My interest is renewed. Think I'm going rock hunting. Quote Link to comment
