Seedy Cache Locations

Recommended Posts

While caching in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia this weekend, my husband and I came across an LPC in the parking lot of a strip club. I suppose if the CO has permission to place the cache there it's OK, but it seemed a little seedy and definitely not family friendly. Anyone else find a cache in a seedy, unseemly place? Examples? Stories?

Maybe I don't get it. Unless you can see inside, or there's fights in the parking lot, how is a strip club by itself a seedy location? I don't see it being different than any other bar.

Anyway my thoughts on caches in bad locations; First off, you don't have to find every cache, so if you feel uncomfortable for whatever reason, don't go for it. By finding it, you are giving the CO validation for placing that cache. I honestly wouldn't not find a cache based on what's in the building nearby.

Found one on a " Bunny Ranch " in Reno.....also on Bourbon St.,......you wouldn't want to take kids on Bourbon St because of graphic billboards.

I wouldn't mind finding one near THE Bunny Ranch in Nevada. That, as well as Bourbon St, is famous and a landmark. Not kid friendly, though.

As far as just a random strip club, That's no place for a cache. I would also say the same thing for caches in the parking lot at Wal-Mart, near the trash compactor behind Kroger, or on a guardrail to a drainage ditch behind a gas station.

After doing your View Carre, that was one of my favorites by the way, Blindzman and i decided to hit a few of the others in the area. We walked Bourbon and nope, i wouldn't want to bring my family there either. There was lots of stuff going on with doors wide open for all the passers by to see. On the otherhand, we did find some nice caches, some good virtuals for sure, close by.

Edited to say that i have no interest in finding a cache at a strip club. Even though these aren't "seedy", i have to agree with Pork King that walmart parking lots, dumpsters and compactors behind grocery stores, and most guardrails are poor places for caches.

I had a discussion with a reviewer a ways back, concerning a micro in the parking lot of a porn store. The suggestive name of the cache was "Slow Poke Turtle" (in a series of caches in parking lots along the highway named "Turtle ----"). One finder noted seeing people having sex in the parking lot. The reviewer said it was not against guidelines.

Yes. Definitely seedy, IMHO.

And yet, you still managed to hold your nose long enough to Lift that Skirt and sign that log eh?

If you found that location so offensive why not just keep on driving to the next one?

So...was it intentional or coincidental for the CO to put a "skirt lifter" in a strip club parking lot? <_<

I know the CO'S and have found the cache in question. It was intentional.

Where in the OP does it say that they hated the cache? They said it seemed seedy and not family friendly. Does that have to translate to "I hated the cache! But I signed it anyway, so please call me out as a hypocrite in this thread"?

You are the first one to insinuate that they hated the cache, I never said anything to that effect. I merely pointed out that the OP complained that they saw a cache that apparently doesn't meet their placement standards, then proceeded with the find. If that is your definition of hypocrisy I won't argue with you.

When my routing takes me to a location that doesn't meet my standards, I click find next closest and drive away.

You didn't insinuate it. The A-Team did.

EDIT: But on second thought, saying someone probably held their nose while signing the log and that they found the location offensive implies hating the cache. At least it does to me.

I figured your "hate" reference was probably based on my post. My analogy was intentionally exaggerated for effect. I didn't mean to imply that the OP hated the cache. They did express distaste, though, and like others have posted, you don't have to find every cache. I believe my analogy still applies, albeit in an over-the-top fashion.

Near my city there is a parking and resting site by a highway which is known for men going there to find random other guys in order to have sexual intercourse. Somebody placed a cache there with the attribute "suitable for children". After some cachers had complained about having been approached by strangers during their search with the words "are you looking for the same thing that I am looking for?", the CO wrote about this situation in their listing and changed the attribute to "not suitable for children". So everybody is warned and can decide whether they still want to go for that cache or not. I don't, but if others want this drive-in for their statistics that's their choice.

I think parking lots of strip clubs or porn stores are comparatively harmless as long as they are not in an otherwise dangerous area.

I had not realized how many pickle parks there are locally, until I took up geocaching. Yes. I even had a cache in a scenic on the Interstate. I've seen some pretty graphic encounters in Marcus Garvey Park, and Central Park in NYC. "Must have been a religious ceremony on Sunday morning. One guy was yelling Hallelujah! Another was on his knees. Obviously praying. The third was collecting money. He must have been the pastor." Just ignore them, and they'll go away. Had a friend who was early for a meeting, so he parked in a park with over a hundred caches, reading his newspaper. (Well, a man reading a newspaper in a parked car can be a signal.) Someone approached him and asked if he had the time. He said "1:15." The other guy went away. No. I am not planning on avoiding Nike Art Park because of what goes on there at times. These are some great parks.

Parking lots of porn stores, on the other fin, have nothing of interest, other than numbers.

I had considered hiding a cache in Pickel Park (named after Gertrude Pickel) but it is not in my maintenance range. Oh, well.
