Given it's the best selling UK album ever I'll go for Queen's Greatest Hits by Queen.

Nope, but you're right, that is the best selling UK album. (approx 5.4 million copies and counting)

Hmm I can think of a few probables. How about Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd)

That's the longest record by a group ever to appear in the UK charts (211 weeks)

I'll guess Bat out of hell, by Meatloaf,

That's the longest charting album by a male artist (244 weeks and never higher than number 9 in the charts).

Carry on up the Charts, Beautiful South?

Nope.

Was it by a rather odd-looking US artist by any chance?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Depends who you are thinking of?

Does this mean its a female solo artist then? maybe Madonna?

Posted

Well, unless those hints are devilishly misleading its neither group, nor male artist.

How about the soundtrack to Sound of Music? by ... erm ... the cast of the Sound of Music.

"Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel ??

Failing that, something by the Beatles?

It's a big DING to Dorsetgal or GeoDog depending which one guessed it.

And I never got to use my clue. There are 98 caches worldwide called Bridge Over Troubled Water(s). That must make it one of the most popular names for a cache.

Ah, the hunch paid off.

Saw the Garfunkel half with his son at Hampton Court Palace music festival last year, fantastic ... very intimate concert held in the Base Court, the drummer and some of the band even came off stage afterwards to meet us ... well ok, he spotted GeoDog and his sister Penny (also a working dog) in the audience and came off stage to meet them! All we could do was sit by kinda like chaperones, they (the dogs) were who the band wanted to meet!!

Anyways, onwards ...

This week I walked (well ok, rolled) through this place while caching,

where is it?

Of course, its La Louvre, we were there last December for my birthday.

Ha! Ding to Mr Chizu, yes we went there last Tuesday for my birthday, however, it happened to be a Bank Holiday and it was closed! On the plus side, that left more time for caching ... every cloud, so they say!

Ok the collective wisdom of our sofa says,

Brotherhood of Man, Bucks Fizz, Lulu, Sandie Shaw and Katrina & the Waves

Yup that's a DING for that list, I wondered if anyone might get confused with Sir Cliff.

It's the National Union of Mineworkers.

No, wait a minute. That was the blind leading the blind, wasn't it??

Is it anything to do with epilepsy? We understand that dogs are trained to alert severe sufferers to fits.

Someone put me out of my misery - the temptation to Google it is nearly overwhealming!

Posted

Yes it is something to do with epilepsy. The organisation concerned not only train mobility assistance dogs (to help people with physical disabilities) but they also train medical alert dogs which can alert to oncoming seizures, diabetic episodes and so on.

Surely someone local must know ...

Posted

Support Dogs is a charity established in 1992 by dog trainer Val Strong. The charity has pioneered the training of seizure alert dogs – the charity’s main focus today. It is the only organisation in the world that undertakes training for this purpose.

DING! to Simply Paul!

The five organisations that train Registered Assistance Dogs in the UK are

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Assn

Hearing Dogs for Deaf Poeple

Dogs for the Disabled

I want to do a music round but it'll take me a while to find the tunes and edit them - stay tuned! :o

Any chance of another question in the meantime?

Yes, sorry. Real life got in the way there for a while.

WITHOUT using a calculator, or other electonic device (an abacus is ok) what is 1200 miles per hour in feet per second? Go!

1200 miles/hour = (1200/60) = 120/6 = 20 miles/minute

=20/60 = 1/3 miles/second

1 mile =1760 yards = 1760 * 3 feet = 5280 feet.

5280/3 = 1760 feet/second :o

Ding! And a house point for showing workings-out :(

Thanks - My A-level maths teacher drilled into us "always show your working" and I still can't help it!

Next question - What were the full names of Doctor Who's original 3 companions back in 1963 (one of the names is an alias)?
