Reminds me of a TV show I used watch all the time as a kid.

Do any of you remember a show called "Land of the Giants"?

Sorry, I was a kid before television.

So the closest you got to "Land of the Giants" (as a kid) was when Dorothy went to Munchkin Land? :santa:

 

If my math is correct Harmon, you were 5 years old when that movie came out...

You have to figure in my December birthday, when I was four my mom and dad dumped me at the curb outside the Fox Theatre building in Abilene, Texas, to see Wizard of Oz. I got in for a dime.

 

I did just fine until the witch started to melt. I freaked and split and, at age four, ran across town to the Abilene Hotel on the south side of the tracks.* That would be a two-miler through downtown Abilene for a four-year-old in imagined distress. Picture that nowadays.

 

That might have been my parent's first clue that it was going to be hard to ditch me. Gotta hand it to them, they kept trying until they booted me out at age seventeen the day following my high-school graduation. Guess I showed them.

 

Good thing that I was still working at the Greek chicken ranch so's I had an income. Feed sacks ain't all that bad t' sleep on by the way as long as the danged rats keep to themselves.

 

To this day I can't stand green people that melt. Still wondering how that darned movie came out.

Boy have times changed!

I can't imagine dropping a 4 year old off at a movie theater by himself these days!

 

I knew what the south side of the tracks meant.

I guess I grew up on the north side of the tracks but never really understood why there were any tracks in the first place.

 

Anyhow, the Wizard of Oz is still fun to watch! :huh:

For some reason it seems that I should know where that is...

Ah ha! I still have that one on my to-do list as soon as I get my 60CS back from Garmin.....The USB connector came loose. I guess I wasn't careful enough when I pluged/unplugged my USB cable! :)

That goes along with "Beauty is where you find it if you actually look at what you see."

 

This display of graffiti really made me wonder about taggers. Wouldn't you think that they would always want their piece in a public space? Well now, thanks to you, that one is isn't it?

 

Congratulations, you are now a patron of public art. Thanks by the way, it was a final treat to a grand adventure.

 

Well, that and a real pain in the rear you dirty rat.

I love "adventures" like the one you went on. I've been looking at a San Diego urban explorers group that takes similar adventures. Unfortunately, SD doesn't have the ancient infrastructure and abandoned buildings that older cities have.

 

As to taggers, there certainly is lots to appreciate with their "work". Lets avoid the thumb issue that a particular mayor wants though. :)

I got my "urban-exploration" start in 1942 exploring the storm sewers of Manhattan, Kansas. Way back then they used road-barrier oil lamps rather than the modern blinky l;ights we see nowadays. Those old smudge pots worked great for carry-along lights. Of course we weren't smart enough to consider the possibility of sewer gases. Of course we were just traveling through storm drains.

 

Best part about Manhattan drains was that you could come up inside the life-science building of the local university where they had all sorts of body parts and other preserved things in glass bottles.

 

One of my best experiences was going into the subterranian grottos of the Brooklyn Bridge supports. Lovely odors there.

 

That Vegas mayor must have had a few cocktails before he shot his mouth off. Just imagine the fun those Vegas taggers will have now. Can't wait to see some of the thumb-art. Maybe he should just stand back and look at his ridiculous city with a critical eye.

I don't even think I ever noticed that it was broken

I really didn't expect anyone to notice. It was driving me crazy that when I originally entered the thread title as ***This Just In*** it became ***this Just In*** because of the way the forum software makes everything into title case and the software was not smart enough to know that ***This was not a word. Anyway, SoCalAdmin fixed it for me by adding a space after the *** so that the T could be upper case. I know you’re thinking that is a lot of fuss over nothing, but that's the way us ESTJ's are. RM

Here are the rules of the cache:

 

The Rules

#1 Please take another person with you to take 3 seperate pictures.

 

#2 You will find a picture on each waypoint, you must copy what you see and have the other person snap a photo of you at that exact location doing what you see on the waypoint.

(Disclaimer) If you are not able to do EXACTLY what you see, PLEASE do the BEST you are able)

 

#3 This cache may only be done during the daylight hours in order to receive credit for it.

 

#4 In order to receive credit for cache you must also make sure that all 3 pics are sent at the time of the log, or it will be deleted.

 

This is a difficult mission fellow geocachers, those who choose to accept this mission will be highly regarded and most likely made fun of at the next geocaching event......This message will self destruct in 10 seconds....so please print it out so you don't forget the rules.

Have fun!!!! This is one that EVERYONE can enjoy!

From the "I swear I didn't make it up" department...

 

I don't trust myself to spell and since you look stupider than you really are when you misspell, I use ieSpell. Couple that with the goofy Geocaching waypoint names and you get this...
