In the words of Seargent Seymore Argyle "What makes a grown man that isn't an IT-guy dress like a fourteen- year-old?" San Diego County – At a press conference today Sgt. Seymore Argyle of the San Diego County Unbunched Sock Police (SDCUSP) announced that the rate of unbunched-sock recidivism continues to creep up in spite of determined efforts to cut the problem off at the knees. Sgt. Argyle explained that “F’r some reason Ah don’t un’erstan’ th’ problem is at it's worst in east county.” Sgt. Argyle also explained that an increasingly large numbers of male baby-boomers are going into retirement causing a runaway increase in unbunched-sock violations. With retirement there is a movement from long pants into shorts and that brings into public view a vast number of once-closeted unbunched-sock wearers. As Sgt. Argyle put it “Worse thang is that we’re now seeing a lot more unbunched black-nylon socks.” Several new deputies have been added to the SDCUSP staff to handle the increasing rate of sartorial disobedience in public places. +Let's Look Over Thayer
That's very impressive; however, isn't that sheet a bit untidy? You know, right there in the center? I'm not normally one to point fangers, but a response is required... First off, Fanger A points to the "sheet". The sheet is nice and tidy. Shipshape and Bristol-fashion, as it were. Second, the clew of the sail (indicated by Fanger B ) is attached to the sheet and clew blocks (the round blobs to the left of Fanger B ) so there is a limit to how tidy the sail can be furled in the best of circumstances. That little bit is always going to stick out like that. Thirdly, you're right. That isn't very tidy. The part of the sail indicated by Fanger C is called a "deadman" because it looks as if someone furled up a body into the sail. We try to avoid that. In my defense, though, I didn't furl this sail when it was put away last. In this photo, we are unfurling the sail. Quote Link to comment
