fiftykisses
Hi, I am going to put out my first cache, and want to use a sturdy, large container. We don't have an army surplus store nearby. Is there any other place to get ammo cans? Or, I'd appreciate any suggestions on good cache containers. Thanks! Quote Link to comment

+VegasCacheHounds
Lock-n-Lock Tupperware-like containers. They are clear and they seal well, and are available in a variety of sizes. Most Targets ussually carry them. As far as Ammo cans, check out www.cheaperthandirt.com. I haven't checked it out recently, but they used to have good deals on them.- Quote Link to comment
+Jhwk
Your local army surplus store. Quote Link to comment
+Team Neos
If you have your heart set on ammo containers and don't want to use the email order route, check the stores around you that sell ammunition and hunting supplies. My local gun supply store (the one the police all frequent) sells them for about the same price as cheaper than dirt. Flea markets and the like can also be a source. And do get in touch with other local cachers, too. You can pool your money to buy flats of ammo cans at a great price at military auctions. Quote Link to comment
fiftykisses
Thanks everyone. Those are all good ideas. I never thought about local gun supply stores. There's a shooting range not far from my house. I can stop by there and ask around. Thanks again! Quote Link to comment
Mvillian
The local Ace hardware store in Florence S.C. has plenty of all sizes of ammo cans starting at $3.99...I would say check any hardware store or army/navy stores Quote Link to comment
+Cache Buzzards
Check out the Lock N Locks here - Amazon Lock N Locks There are a few large ones and the whole set is fairly well priced. Quote Link to comment

Hopefully see all of you around sometime!! Take Care. Ride Away and Find-A-Way!!! ~MisstakenTreasures. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
I've seen ammo cans pretty cheap at gun shows. Quote Link to comment
+hukilaulau
I've got one word for you: Five gallon buckets. I find these littering the landscape all over the place. Home Depot sells nice lids with rubber gaskets for $1.99 A little spray paint or a lot of camo duct tape turns them into great geocache containers! Quote Link to comment
+FourRiverRatz
you can sometimes get 5 gallon buckets in your local deli or bakery in a grocery store..with lids. I worked in one and we sold them for about $1 each...they were empties form the icing, miracle whip, pickles, etc. also if you have a Goodwill store in your area, the ones here are great for finding cheap tupperware. I am always finding the big pieces that run $20-$30 for about 49-99 cents. they have a nice variety if you stop in often (in this area anyway). yardsales are good places to find tupperware cheap...and I've actually sold boxes of 30+ pieces on e-bay for less then $30...so check there too. ammo boxes...I don't have a clue..other then the one I saw at camp on my brothers dresser.....hmmmmm...wonder if he would notice it is gone??? +maggieszoo
Cat litter buckets. Lids are easier to get on and off than 5 gallon buckets. Quote Link to comment
