First Use Of Angst

Recommended Posts

So it took nearly three years for the forum masses to learn the application of forum angst.

Now we just need to find the origin and history of lame.:rolleyes:

Apparently, this is the first use of the term lame cache.

Now, who can find the earliest post with both angst and lame used simultaneously?:blink:

Hmmm... I would never have thought about 'Lame' being a geocache descritpion that early in the game. Looks like todays micro's don't have a lock on it.

Back then, they also used "Cache Gangsters" for people who steal caches.

Speaking of angst, Godwin's law was first mentioned in these forums here (of course the dreaded N... and H..... words occured earlier than that).:blink:

This is possibly the first post ever made in these forums; note the total lack of angst.

The post dates back to Oct 7, 2000, @ 04:25 AM. The poster, some guy calling himself iryshe, was obviously an early riser.:blink:

Jeremy can have angst. I've got schaudenfraude. Admit it, you get just a tinge of pleasure when someone DNFs a tough cache that YOU found (especiallly if you found it easily). Schaudenfraude schaudenfraude schaudenfraude - Hey!

Ich werde nie böse in den Foren!

"I become never bad in the forums"?

:rolleyes::P

I searched for "lampost micro" but didn't find anything older than 2003.

If you translate correctly it translates to "I never get angry in the forums!"

You need to brush up on your German! Verstehen Sie die Wörter, die von meinem Mund herauskommen?

Böse means both angry and bad, so I can see where you misunderstood me!

I believe it is time to abandon angst and begin using anguish.

:P

I can't believe it....you're abandoning "angst"? Whats the world coming too?

I know that causes anguish, but all will survive....

Saw a catchy word the other day. Snarky. It has become the buzzword in our house. Did a search but it is less than a month old.

Carleen, being a word smith, you understand that angst is defined as feeling anguish. So, semantically speaking, if you abandon angst for anguish, you accomplish nothing.

Personally, I think we should add anguish to angst everytime we use it (for emphasis). Then, of course, redundancy becomes the issue. But redundancy is a cuddly puppy next to the pit bull of angst.:blink:

Snarky is a GREAT WORD! My parents used to use it a lot. Definitely a good forum posting word!

So I was looking for the first forum reference to dead horse and I found this very refreshing and enlightening thread.

Dated in March 2001 in the West/southwest regional forums, the topic meanders through a variety of subjects including increasing stash activity, urban stashes, maps, stickers, get togethers (events), Jeeps, intra-state competition, Degree Confluence, the weather, environmental impact of caching, land manager relations, cache density, adopt-a-highway, geocaching public image, and the press.

There is one use of the phrase dead horse, but not in reference to a forum topic.

As is true with most forum topics outside of the general forums, there is remarkably no angst. :D:D

Looks Like Jeremy had the distinction..

Only three days before my first find. The only angst I was experiencing was hunting tupperware in central texas heat with no water and my wife wearing heels.

This may be the first use in a travel bug log. I also recall seeing posts by someone named AngstMonger, but I don't think they predate the OP's reference.

I love snarky.

To snark, he, she or it snarks, we are snarking....

I note that one of my favorite words has been used here in 4 threads...which were probably moderated soon afterwards :D
