Anyone know? As of right now and subject to change, campfires are allowed. They may restrict it to the main fire circle of the group camp. I do not know if any will be available on site, and even it is, it's usually a lot more expensive that I like to pay for it. It would be great if someone that had a supply could bring some. If people are willing to split it I have access to nice dry logs for firewood at a very reasonable price $1.00 per 100 lbs. -------------------- Go play Outside!!!!!!! +The Navigatorz Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 (edited) I see conversations about eating, & camping, but nothing about caching. Any thoughts on this? As a suggestion for those coming to the campout from the wet side, via Snoqualimie Pass and I-90 and Blewett Pass Highway 97, you can get to the campground by taking the Liberty-Beehive Road, and pick up many caches along the way. Microsoft Streets and Trips shows this as not a through road, but it is. Turn off Hiway 97 at the Liberty road (approximately N47 14.586 and W 120 41.844). The first couple of miles is paved, then it becomes dirt all the way past Beehive Lake and finally connects to the paved Mission Ridge road (a short distance from the Squilchuck state park campground). I highly recommed this way because there are nearly 20 caches, most are drive by, but the scenery makes it worth it. It can be bumpy in some places....ok...really bumpy in some places, but still worth the drive. Take in some side roads (off the Liberty Beehive road) along the way for more caches with awesome scenic views. Edited August 7, 2005 by The Navigatorz Quote

I've tried to build a couple cache-machine style routes for the area but there are just so many caches it's hard to build a route that makes a lot of sense. Fortunately, we are in the desert, so it gets down in the 60's at night." I for one won't be caching if the temp hits 90F, I'm thinking sitting in the shade (if any can be found) drinking cool adult beverages and talking about caching. +Right Wing Wacko Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 (edited) I really wish Seth's server had not gone on vacation with him... it would have made a few things easier. Seth is due back tomorrow and we should be able to get the list back up at that time. There have been a couple cancellations. A few people have had things come up that prevent them from attending. If there is any one that was not able to make camping reservations because the campground was full, contact me! We should be able to fit you in now. Because of the weather forecast, we have decided to move dinner on Saturday a little later than originally planned. We were going to fire up the BBQ Charcoal at 3PM, now we are thinking of 5PM Instead. We have anticipated that many people will be out for part of the day on Saturday scoring some of the local caches. Yes it will probably be hot, but it's also up in the mountains with lots of trees around, so it should be bearable.... with plenty of "Cold Beverages" around to help kill the heat. There will be a GPS Accuracy Contest similar to the one held at the Luau in Gorst this last weekend. If you want to participate, bring an appropriate trading item to put into the pot. Items such as Geocoins and GOOD trading items, Ammo Boxes, etc are approprioate. Please no McToys or Travel Bugs (unactivated tags would be ok). EVERYONE will win something. The prizes collected will be spread out on a table and the closest to ground zero will pick from the table of prizes first. Second closest will pick second and so on until all the prizes are gone. Moun10Bike will also be leading a project to map the trails of the park. There will be some rewards for those that partipate in that project also. We are still discussing what that might me but I think those that participate will be pleased. Bring your GPS Cables if you have them so we can download your track logs. I'm sure I've forgotten to mention several things.... We'll try to keep you posted! Edited August 16, 2005 by Right Wing Wacko Quote

It would be really nice if it lasted through the weekend, but weather has a way of changing quickly. Just a reminder to everybody: Even if it is boiling hot this weekend, still bring a light jacket, pants, and a good sleeping bag. Sometimes it gets quite cool in the evening and at night, so it is good to be prepared. Wouldn't hurt to bring along a rain jacket, too. Last weekend we camped in Leavenworth and got rained on briefly. Quote

From the historic town of Liberty follow FR-9718 and pick up Fools Gold, Cougar Gulch, and Sandstone Towers caches, then to the 3-way intersection of FR-9718, FR-35, and FR-9712, take FR-35 south to get Don't Look Down, Edge of the World, and Lion Rock caches, then back to the 3-way intersection, turn east on FR-9712 (Liberty-Beehive Rd) to get the rest of the caches in the Bookmark list all the way to Beehive Lake and on to Squilchuck State Park. Drive up to the Wenatchee Heights and there are plenty of great caches with views of the valley and Mission Ridge. Continue on up to Four Corners cache at the Chelan-Kittitas county line and end up on the Naneum Ridge road to Wenatchee Mountain cache for a panoramic view at the highest point in the area. You would not have any problem traveling East on I-90 through this construction area other than a slow down "Give them a brake" Quote
+Right Wing Wacko Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Another recommendation from a local for more scenic caches in the area, head down the hill from the state park, approx. 2-1/2 miles, to the Wenatchee Heights road. You will be looking right down on the Mission Ridge ski area and Squilchuck state park, but also can see Mt. Rainier and the Mt. Stewart Range. With a good off road vehicle! Yeah, and I just hid another cache up there today for you all who have high clearance vehicles. Has it been approved yet... You better bring copies of the page to share with all, since many of us are just now finalizing our PQ's for the trip. Not approved yet but I am sure Team Misguided will get on it quickly. If you want coords before you leave email me and I will send them to you. Otherwise I will bring printouts. Well... most all of the approvers will be at the Campout! To bad they don't have Wi-Fi up there Quote

+Right Wing Wacko Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Why does my map show the event cache outside the park (to the south)? Those were the coordinates of the Group Camp that Patudles and I took when we checked out the park after the Wenatchee Cache Machine. I can think of a couple possible reasons.... 1. We took our readings wrong or wrote them down wrong. 2. The maps are not totally accurate as to where the park boundries are. Quote

+Prying Pandora Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 As a suggestion for those coming to the campout from the wet side, via Snoqualimie Pass and I-90 and Blewett Pass Highway 97, you can get to the campground by taking the Liberty-Beehive Road, and pick up many caches along the way. It can be bumpy in some places....ok...really bumpy in some places, but still worth the drive. Can a minivan handle the drive? Quote
+TotemLake Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 It should. It's a secondary road driving up to the park from Wenatchee and that indicates it is maintained. Quote

Our Chrysler is so bad, we have trouble going in and out of parking lots. Quote

Is the group camp at the base of a steep cirque wall in the western part of the park? That's where the co-ords put me on both NG Topo! and MS Streets & Trips. The entrance co-ords TL gave are right on. Gee, if no one gets to the co-ords, can they still log the event??? That's just where YOU will be. Yeah, well YOU'll still be able to hear me - I have a strong voice and a loud snore! Quote

It has a lot of bumps and ruts. High clearance is best. Even with high clearance you have to drive carefully. One cacher broke her trailer hitch going over a bump. I have seen sedans and vans on the road so it is up to you. If you chose to do so take it slowly and carefully over the rough spots. Quote

Yeah, well YOU'll still be able to hear me - I have a strong voice and a loud snore! If your coords get you to the gate all you have to do is follow the road. There are no turnoffs. Just go through the gate and stay on the road past the lodge which is on a hill on your left as you drive in. Continue on to the campsites. The road will make a loop through the camping area. I have been up there a couple of times and the gate was locked but I heard it was open yesterday so I will try to go up again this afternoon and check it out. Anything in particular you all need to know about it? Quote
Moun10Bike Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Anything in particular you all need to know about it? For planning purposes on the trail mapping project, it would be helpful to me to know where the trails in the park begin and generally how manby and how long they are. I don't need you to walk them, but knowing a good place for people to gather for the mapping and how many groups to organize would be great. Thanks! Quote

The camp is locked right now so I can't get in but I will go pick up the key this evening so I can unlock it in the morning. What time will the first arrivers be coming in so I can be sure and be their on time. Ranger Mike says he will come in Friday afternoon towards evening to discuss the trail system. He says he can save us some time by showing you personally. He is really excited about us doing this mapping. Quote
