+Snooch and Meme
They appear to be a component of something, but what? I'm sure they weren't manufactured with only caching in mind. Anyone know what they really are??? Quote Link to comment
+KYHilltopper
Are you asking about those little aluminum tubes with a loop at one end? If so, those are Bison Tubes and are available at Sissy-n-CR's store KyHilltopper Quote Link to comment
+fly46
Do you have an example? The first thing that came to mind was a bison tube for me, too, but an example would make us certain. Quote Link to comment
+Snooch and Meme
No no, not bison tubes. The little tiny black ones that look like a pencil eraser. These little fellows: Nano Cache Quote Link to comment
SilverLynx
Talk about looking for a needle in a haystack! those things are tiny! Tell the truth they look like painted over flashy light thingies they sell at fairs and carnivals. Quote Link to comment
+StressMaster
my Guess would be ( they were originaly jewlery... a magnet lightup earring set) I've seen them and rings that light up without the magnet . the log would go into the battery compartment . Quote Link to comment
+Spencersb
Tell the truth they look like painted over flashy light thingies they sell at fairs and carnivals. No, they actually are little containers with threaded lids. The inside is hollow, and the lid is solid metal, I assume it's aluminum. I've got a couple, but haven't been mean enough to put them out yet. And frankly, we have a local that puts out things just as small, but homemade, so a store-bought one looks kinds cheesy next to his. I don't know what they were designed for, maybe to ship BBs to folks that buy them one at a time? Quote Link to comment
+joefrog
I've got one of those as a cache, and it definately wasn't jewelry that *I* can tell! Good strong stuff! Wish I knew where to get 'em besides ebay, tho... I'm willing to bet he's made a small fortune from them by now! Quote Link to comment
+welch
I was going to say nitro pill holder, but there doesn't seem to be a key ring or anyway to get it easily? Quote Link to comment
+Lemon Fresh Dog
Dear lord --- those are frightening. I'd probably lose them in my desk drawer -- sort of a self-imposed cache. If I had to guess, I'd say they were somehow used for drill-bits (dental?), small jewels. I have seen some containers in plastic, about the same size used for the short leads that are used on a compass (the geometry-type of compass). Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
Sand the paint off and you'll find they're magnetic earrings that the teeny boppers use. (You'll also find that if they WEREN'T sanded and primed the paint will quickly pop off the high-gloss surfaces.) The curved surface is the epoxy'ed LED surface and the logbook goes where the battery was. See exhibits near the top of the page at http://www.gotparty.com/bodypins1.htm Quote Link to comment
+Marky
We were wondering what they were, and Kusanagi clued us in. Here is a cache we hid that shows a before and after picture: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCMBV0 --Marky Quote Link to comment

+Lemon Fresh Dog
wow.... I'm impressed that you know that! Quote Link to comment
+ShadowAce
Those are indeed the blinky lights as they were reported.. The thing to be careful of with these is: Lets go to another forum. I have seen alot of damaged areas because people place caches like this in urban settings. The container itself is not the problem. Placing it inside a row of flowers can be.. Keeping a logbook in it is also difficult. Quote Link to comment
+wimseyguy
Huh, never would have figured robertlipe for a raver! The few that have been hidden around here have been placed in locations where there weren't a lot of options. That doesn't make them any easier to find though. Quote Link to comment
+LthrWrk
them things (Nano) are a bear. I looked at one three times before I realized it didnt belong where it was. I have not read what their original purpose was designed for but curious to find out. Lots of ways to paint em.. to camoflage them to the surroundings.. and probably hide in plain sight. I really hope though that they are no longer any available anywhere to be used as nano containers. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
Huh, never would have figured robertlipe for a raver! You (hopefully) didn't have me figured as a doofus, either, but it turns out that's sort of how I know this one. (The doofus thing, not the raver...) I actually bought a bucket of these things from the closeout table of a drugstore with intent on making a techno cache out of them. After various experiments drilling, soldering, and mounting them, they remain in a bucket on my workbench. One night while dining with caching friends, someone showed me this really evil cache container they'd just purchased on fleabay but couldn't figure out what it was. Once he handed it to me, I recognized it. I probably wouldn't have recognized it a week earlier. So it had occured to me to use them as PART of a cache container but it didn't occur to me to use them AS the container. See also: doofus... Quote Link to comment
