I'm hoping to meet new people and eat BBQ all day Saturday of that weekend. Then, and only then, I'm going to eat new people and meet BBQ.

Yes, I'm still working on the BBQ challenge. We will be having a KC Geo breakfast in Oct. and I hope to put together a contingency of KC Master BBQ folks and bring them down to Jville in May for a good old fashion BBQ showdown. If for some reason we can't pull off the planning preparation and travel, then I hope to go down anyway and meet new folks and eat NE FL BBQ. Now, excuse me while I go find something to eat ... :P

dang it! NOW I am hungry too!

Castigated?   So I had a bad day and probably should have posted that, I honestly didn't think it was that big a deal.  I didn't mean for it to be some huge attack or anything  :P

I made 2 posts in the thread.  The 2nd was about inconsistancy of approvers and some suggestions for better ways to promote caches.  I don't see anything about my first post that was anymore loud or vocal that posts in support of the event.

Incidentally, there is a thread about this on my groups' website.  If you ever get a nice "button" I'd post that too.

Sorry if I've create some ill feelings - I was just commenting that things could perhaps have been done better.

Thanks for explaining your post. It evidently "felt" more negative than you meant it.

Apology accepted!

For those of you who disagree with me bashing Navycache.com, I am sorry, but if you would like to promote them, do it on their website.  If you feel strongly about it, I will be at GWIII, and will be accepting any butt kickings you care to handout.

AMEN!

I'll be standing next to you for the butt kickings.

I think you owe Johnny an apology. Johnny needs to apologize again only when/if you provide him with an example of a Groundspeak rule or guideline that is not of human origin. Over the years, one or two people may have suggested that the guidelines appear to have been created by a bunch of monkeys randomly typing, but everyone knows that isn't true.

On the other hand, the rumor that Jeremy discovered the guidelines burned into the lid of a Tupperware container at specific coordinates high atop Mount St. Helens has never been disproved. So perhaps Johnny should apologize, just to be safe.

I was told it was on the lids of two ammo cans. But that could be an interpretation error from the original text.

if "it did not violate any guidelines or rules" then it still would be approved.

ergo....

I think this whole topic may be moot if Hurricane Frances has its way with Jacksonville and reclaims it in the name of Neptune.

Jax has successfully avoided a direct hit since '64 and we are hoping that trend continues :P . Our best wishes to whomever it does hit. We have many caching friends across Florida and are sure some of them will be affected (as some were by Charlie  ) no matter where it hits.

<SNIP>

the posting of Geowoodstock was approved, it did not violate any guidelines or rules except those that are imagined by some people.

<SNIP>

Now see if that were true then the page would not have been un-approved. It must not have met some of the guidelines or it would still be visible. while your opinion of the cache reviewers seems to be a bit on the poor side, I am sure that you do respect those people that work directly for Groundspeak, Inc. Since they made the decision I would bet it was for a valid reason and not "imagined by some people."

As I stated in a previous post in this thread, the cache was "un-approved" because TPTB would like to discuss with us some questions/problems they had. There was no mention of any rules or guidelines being broken. That leads me to believe that if the questions are answered to the satisfaction of TPTB, the page will be approved again. I think if the only issue on the table was the 6 month lead time issue we would've been told so and the issue would have been closed until December 28.

FWIW, I added the event cache page to my watchlist. I really would love to be able to attend.... even if the BBQ in FL isn't as good as here in AL  and hopefully I'll find someway to do so.

You and 64 others have the cache page on their watchlist - that with it being approved only 10 days. That seems to speak loudly in the favor of the value of a cache page in promoting an international event. With that out of the way.... let's talk about something REALLY important!

BBQ!

Your comment sounded like a challenge? Will you join Clearpath in the BBQ challenge? I promise I will give an honest taste test and wil publicly admit if any BBQ is better than ours.

How about we skip the sniping :P at each other on this thread and try to continue making posts that will support NEFGA's effort to put on a great event?

How about letting them know what you would like this event to be in a positive and constructive manner?

I'd cut and paste KA's standard warning here but I'm too lazy!

I would agree with this post totally.

What is done is done. NEFGA seems to be working through it.

I don't see NEFGA complaining, and if anyone has the right to it should be them. Why don't those of you who are complaining let them fight their own battles? If they need your help or support on an issue I'm sure they will ask. Right now all some of you are doing is creating ill feelings toward the event for many people. How about letting NEFGA deal with the issue. I'm getting a better feeling for the event with some of the posts from Paintfiction and The Federation, but then some of the other pot-stirrers who have nothing to do with the organization of this event just keep stirring up the ill feelings.

How about all of us trying to be part of the solution instead of perpetuating the angst.

BBQ is so yesterday. Now if you were to add a Chili cook off that would be a real challenge. However I understand the logistics of doing this so maybe we see if we can do a chili cook off next year.

But to be honest I may have to make sure you have a Colorado rep. there to show you boys and women how real BBQ is done. Colorado BBQ started with Memphis style and then made it great!

At this time family commitments prevent me from personally showing you all how its done but I am look for a CO person to come down there and teach you all how its really done :P I think C.A.C.H.E may have to do a BBQ contest and send the winner down to beat you guys.

I kind of like that idea.

BTW Kreskin called, he wants his spoon back.

I think due to this post you need to once again apologize to Groundspeak, Inc. for your statements made in passion but with no fact or knowledge.

You are wrong, there are no listed (posted) guidlines that limit addvanced postings of events. As I have said before, if hey are not there to be read they do not excists. This is like signing contract to purchase a car then having the dealer trying to make changes afterwords

As far facts, Kreskin had nothing to do with spoon Bending. that fraud was satarted by and Uri Geller.

Chill out!

Maybe if you slowed down and reread what you were typing before hitting the enter key, you would make some changes and it would not sound so hostile and it would be spelled more like English.

Positive note: Go NEFGA!! I appreciate the efforts and I'll be there, with or without the cache page!

edited to add positive note in keeping with recent suggestions.

Johnny, the only thing that is making me not want to go at this point is if you are there. I don't want to be brought down by you if you are there. I would prefer to go and have fun. I have never said this to anyone before, but I now think your geocaching life would be better if you did not use this site. You cannot seem to find anything right with it.

If you are there and I am there too, I will tell you how to recognize me.

Whoa there purple ponymaster! Great Colorado BBQ? Remember-I'm the lotech guy' round here, earning his keep with fire and knives.

So I did a search at Epicurious-the world's greatest recipe collection. Here's what I got back on Colorado BBQ: Sorry, your search returned no results for: colorado BBQ

I also looked at bbq.about.com since they were the first hit on a google search of BBQ. I see recipes from KC, Memphis, Texas and of course NC. I also looked in Thrill of the Grill which always is near the top of the pile of cookbooks in my office here; nope no CO BBQ either.

So, I think Clearpath has a legit claim to a spot in the field with KC style; anyone from Memphis or Texas could also be heard from if they want to work the event instead of attend, and of course my adopted home state of North Carolina with our great pulled pork could be represented there. But Colorado? Nah not for BBQ, just not that well known. Now if it were to be a chilifest then you would be in the front row; but it's not. :P:huh::huh::P:P

See that shows you how smart we are. Its so good we dont share with outsiders.

Gee I google it and get this quote on the second hit.

"Now we’re talking. Roll up your sleeves, tie on a bib, grab a roll of paper towels and dig in. Colorado eateries have made barbecue a culinary art, in part because all the expatriates and visitors from the South and Southwest demand it, mostly because it’s just so darn good."

and this

Summer has arrived to the High Country in full stride. Recent rainfall has got the colors blooming. BBQ lovers should find their way to Frisco for the Coors Colorado BBQ Challenge June 25 - 26.

I would have to personally veto a chili cook-off since I *AM* the reigning local champion in the chili cook-off department. It just wouldn't be fair to everyone else!

As to a CO contingent for the BBQ cook-off......

BRING IT ON!

P.S. regarding your family obligations preventing you from coming to GW3..... doesn't your family DESERVE a nice Florida vacation? Complete with a trip to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, numerous theme parks, historic St. Augustine - the Nation's Oldest City? Just trying to remind you of your priorities....

That is an excellent idea, so long as the banner doesn't also say "Booth Sponsored by Nike, official butt-kicking footwear of GeoWoodstock."

Nike would be tacky, now if it said "Booth Sponsored by Wolverine Steel Toe Boots, official butt-kicking footwear of GeoWoodstock." I think that would be ok.

I may be lotech, but I can google just fine thankyou.

I googled for BBQ-looking for hits on a nationwide scale.

You are correct that if you refine your google search parameters to Colorado BBQ you will get that nice soundbite from the CO Travel and Tourism Agency . But isn't hyping the locals what they are in business for? :D

So no disrespect intended-but CO just doesn't have the national rep for a BBQ culture the way these other spots do. But please do send someone, or bring it yourself. :D

JoGPS and I can't just fill up on pies next year. :D:P

But seriously on the topic of vendors and booths. Some have raised concerns about the level of commercialism at GW3. We had geo-vendor booths at our last local event. Honeychile set up her bumblebuttons display, her sister Connie had T-shirts and bags from Carolina Keepsakes for sale, and Sissy and CR (sorry no link handy) had customized cache containers available.

I thought it was pretty cool to have them there, what do others think?

How does $1.50 each sound?

If Colorado thinks it makes barbeque the same way that Coors thinks it makes beer, someone pass me the salad.

I always thought "Colorado Barbeque" was just a euphemism for grilled spam.

I really, really, really hope that I can make it to GW3. I have hade some BBQ in FL, but only from the panhandle region and it was good, but not the same as here in Bama. I suspect that on the east coast that the BBQ truly is of a different variety than that from the 'Heart of Dixie'.

Just thinking of all this BBQ is making me hungry.... I love BBQ! :P

Please let me know if and when any new info is available about GW3 and I'll post it on the AGA web site.
