What's Your Preference?

On more than one occasion I have made reference to preferring to stay in the NE forums for a variety of reasons.

I again tortured myself by going into the General Forums - Geocaching Topics - and found myself completely frustrated after looking in the first thread that caught my eye (it was posted by someone who has left a bad taste in my mouth numerous times). Though I admit I can be argumentative and abrasive, I am generally easy to get along with (I swear!)

So, which do you prefer and why? - I know a lot of regulars here post there a lot and was curious what everyone thought.

Despite my desire to do so - no flamming of people you encounter over there. (You can email me privately... <_< )

My strong preference is to post on topic. I post in my local forums about specific caches and issues that aren't of interest to the entire Northeast region. I post here about issues, caches and cachers of statewide interest (since PA has no statewide organization) or regional interest. I post in the "main" forum sections for issues that are not specific to the Northeast region.

I enjoy participating at all of these levels. Some can only stand it to read the regional forums and others avoid the Grounspeak forums altogether, preferring the local forum. And if the local forum gets too contentious, I've seen people leave from there, too.

EDIT: I also post in my local forums about stuff that gets discussed or announced here in the Groundspeak forums. This is to get the word out to folks who can't stand coming here.

I spend at least 3/4 of my forum time in the NorthEast. Occasionally I look in the main forum area, usually for information related to my GPSr or an answer to a specific question. I, personally, want to know what's new in the realm of cachers, caches, and caching activity in the NorthEast.

The general forum has a wider breadth of topics and posters, which makes it much more interesting. The NE forum threads are largely either congratulatory posts for those reaching milestones, or discussions about group hunts. Not much red meat here.

It is a lot more civil here than in the general forum because people are a lot less likely to be disrespectful, or rude to someone they might meet at the next cache or event, but there rarely is much going on here of interest to me.

I'm all over the place, General, Northeast, New England, Travel bug forums, CITO. Sometimes I go into Getting Starting. Rarely I check in on Geocaching.com web site, it gets technical, I don't. Gave up on trying benchmarking a long time ago. The new OT forums are an extension of the AS thread which I've never read, but I peek in now and then. The geocaching related topics about GPS I stay out of, unless I need some info. I visit the Hunt/the Unusual sometimes. I only visit NE and New England when I think to, and I stay out of the foreign countries because I mostly understand and speak English. But I need to leave some time for eating, sleeping, working, caching, fishing, socializing, family, gardening, housework, life in general. If I sat here and read them all, I'd whither away in my chair, or go crazy.

There's a general forum? What are the coordinates?
:)

I used to visit alot of the forums in the list, but find myself in the "GPS Units & Software" forum and "Northeast" the most. Every now and then I peek into the "General" or "Getting Started" but I find them to be very monotonous these days.

Kar of TS!!
