CYBret
I popped on Amazon.com to look at some books and went ahead and pre-ordered Writer's book (you owe me, dude ). While there, I noticed another book called The Geocaching Handbook by Layne Cameron will be available soon. Does anyone know anything about this one or about the author? It's been great having Eric here to read and post a bit, but I hadn't heard anything about this one at all. Bret Quote Link to comment
geospotter
Haven't heard anything. Check out this LONG run-on sentence from the back of the book. It includes a history of geocaching, instructions on creating a cache, hiding it, and sharing it with others, geocaching etiquette and conventions, basic land navigation techniques including using a GPS unit, basic backcountry safety and etiquette, where to look and where to hide, types of treasures, and everything the aspiring geocacher needs to get started in this fascinating, family-friendly, high-tech outdoor oriented pastime. I sure hope the author does a better job inside the book. Quote Link to comment

hikemeister
Great -- another book that is not needed, since all the necessary information is right here, including this interactive forum where you can ask what you want (well almost) rather than just reading what the person has selected for the book. +sept1c_tank
I missled you, it was Laura Bush. And, anyway, smelling good is in the nose of the beholder. Quote Link to comment
Navdog
I think a well written book on geocaching is one of Jeremy's wet dreams. What better way to legitimize the sport. And hey, at least she didn't use the capital "C" in the title like the other book. Edited December 11, 2003 by Navdog Quote Link to comment
Patuxent Pirates
Seriously, are any of these books helpful? I don't think there's much to caching that needs further definition. Now the finer points of GPS operation, that would be good information. The rest are just the good placement and search techniques shared here. Quote Link to comment
ironman114
A WELL written book has the information at your finger tips. It can be found in a table of contents or in an alphabetical list in the back. I have read the answers to some questions in the forums that just say read the old forums that point has been covered. I checked and there are 80 pages of threads under just getting started alone covering almost 4,000 topics! I have spent days reading some of this stuff and still need to learn more. I'll learn about gpsr fom my book and use the forums for geocaching and etiquette in my local area. Quote Link to comment

carleenp
Considering that I write for a living, I'm kind of kicking myself for not writing an unecessary book in order to make a few bucks and hopefully promote caching in the process. Quote Link to comment

CYBret
I still say there's room out there for a Geocaching novel. All this DaVinci Code talk sorta proves it. By the way, I just finished the first 3 pages of DaVinci Code...interesting. Bret Quote Link to comment
