+Shadow's
In getting ready for my trip I have a question. Will the airlines let you take a GPS in your carry on or do you have to place it in your check in? I would think you would not be able to carry one on but hate the idea of just checking it in. Anyone know? Thanks, Rick. Quote Link to comment
Scooby Snacks
I am not sure but I have a friend who works with Air Canada that I will ask. Just curious, why do you think they would not be allowed as a carry on . "The cache is a Mystery Machine" Quote Link to comment

+woof n lulu
Woof and I just returned home yesterday from Las Vegas back to Artesia, NM. Carried the GPS in a carry on both ways and had no problems whatsoever...however that being said...Anything of value should be carried on the plane with you as some airports (el paso is one) will cut the locks off you luggage to search even after xray. I had a small scissors and some sewing needles in my large suitcase..thats all the metal there was....just clothes...lock got cut anyway. Quote Link to comment
+Dodgermp
If anything they may have you turn it on to show it is a working device, not something that has been modified to carry an explosive. I have carried mine and my laptop everytrip I take someplaces have turn them on some don't. Quote Link to comment
+Bilder
I am an airline employee and I say carry on. No need to risk losing your bags and your expensive GPS along with it. In this day of airline cutbacks, many are going to contract work for ground handling. This means that your bags are being loaded by some guy making 7 bucks and hour and does not really care where it goes or how much damage it takes to get there. Most luggage that is lost or stolen happens in the hands of contract workers. If you are going to hubs with actual airline employees, then you are in good hands. If you are going to a station with contract workers, may God be with you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have never been lost. Been awful confused for a few days, but never lost! N61.12.041 W149.43.734 Quote Link to comment
ju66l3r
I just took my GPS to Dresden (Germany) from Boston (Logan Airport) and while I did have to take everything that used a battery out of my carry-on and display it separately at the security gate, there were no questions and I was able to even pull it out on the plane and verify the flight speed listed on the TV screens! -- http://magazine.audubon.org/features0101/goodwood.html Quote Link to comment
+rooboy
I recently (mid-Sept) flew from Chicago to San Francisco (on United). For both the outbound and inbound legs, my Garmin GPSr was in the front pocket of my backpack. The TSA folks never asked me about it etc... RooBoy Quote Link to comment
+Doc-Dean
I carry mine on with me all the time and have never had a problem. This topic has been discussed before in great detail so make sure and look at some of the old threads. Free your mind and the rest will follow Quote Link to comment
+Lone Duck
Continental Airlines had no problem with me bringing any "forbidden to use" electronics on board as carry on. I just had to keep them turned off during the flight, including the GPS unit. That Quack Cacher: Lone Duck When you don't know where you're going, every road will take you there. Dan Vull
I bring mine on every flight and actually have logged some waypoints @ 37000 feet, it has a high nerd/geek value but it helps pass the time. Quote Link to comment
Team Kender
I took mine as carry on from SF to Canada and back on Air Canada with no problems. Check other threads for problems actually USING them on a flight. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down." Quote Link to comment
+Runaround
I just spent 7 days in Europe with stops in Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. Nobody even asked about the GPSr. I've taken mine all over the planet on business trips and never had a problem. Now where did I park my car??????? Quote Link to comment
