  1. Hey it's my first post on the new boards. Just checking in to see if everyone is as miserable and complainy as usual. We've had no time to dedicate to Geocaching lately but we're hoping to get back out there and at it (now that the weather has turn cold and wet LOL ) I'd say that I lurk, which is what I was mostly doing on the old boards, but real life has kept me too busy to do even that.

  3. Uh, bootie nuggets sounds to me like something you try to get rid of with toilet paper. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."
  4. The Wife and I were looking for a Geocache on the side of a sea cliff. About the only way we could save ourselves from a long tumble and a swim in the Pacific was to hold onto tree roots and limbs where ever we could find them. At one point we seperated to look around for the cache. While Willow was looking intently in a bush I slipped on some gravel and slid on my posterior about 15 feet. No big deal, but that's my biggest Geocaching tumble so far. Even though I'm a completely healthy and fit person Willow is always worried I'm gonna trip and kill myself. So I didn't tell her about my little trip until we signed the log and were back on firmer ground. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."
  5. I took mine as carry on from SF to Canada and back on Air Canada with no problems. Check other threads for problems actually USING them on a flight. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."
  6. quote:Originally posted by Jaime and Jason:Bill, I enjoy seeing the stats. It gives me an idea of if I'm discussing with a rookie (like me), a pro or somewhere in between. This can be misleading though. Personally I don't think you can really tell a person's experience level based on their stats. There are some hardcore Geocachers out there that don't have that many finds because they only hide and find caches of a certain quality. They have a lot of experience and knowledge in Geocaching, but don't have a ton of finds. And OTOH, you have people like Electric Shavers who probably have recorded finding all known Geocaches and Benchmarks by now. But the only experience they can share is how to make excuses for cheating. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."

Did anyone read that log??? Here is the cache page as well: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=21328&log=y Read it. mtn-man... admin brick mason http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/19490_2600.gif Holy crap! 8. quote:Originally posted by travisl:Oddly, they talk about geocaching with the GPSrs that are built into the cars. That'd be a bit difficult for most caches. The new cure to bushwacking. Just drive up to the cache! Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."

The words spoken on that thread reflect the over reaction on both sides. It seems that action here has caused reaction there and so on until this melt down. True, or not, the talk on that thread was of destroying geocaching. If someone that we all interact with here is threatening this action, then I want to know who they are. That goes beyond a game to something that may merit legal action. I think that THIS thread is part of the problem too. It has solved NOTHING but to cause further rampant speculation. How is that good for the sport? Feelings are getting hurt. Jeremy should post the names, or give the pirates a time period to come foreword and END THIS. Like I said before, the Monsters Are Due on Maple Street. Sorry if my obtuseness doesn't make sense to some, but I feel like that's what I'm watching here. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" 18. 35mm film can? pffft, you should see the logbooks for those Altoid mini-tins! EDIT: Oops, posted before I saw CO Admin's post... dur... so, YEAH, what CA said.
  19. What I don't get is how he/they are logging TBs they don't have without the serial number, unless he/they are just typing in random numbers and sees if it gets a hit. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."

  21. quote:Originally posted by Dream Alchemist:Atleast by them logging the TB out, then back in the same cache atleast lets people and owners know that thier TB is still out there and not just sitting in a cache or worse yet, stolen. This is exactly the problem though. If they are bogus logs, then the TB owner thinks it is somewhere that it is not. Apparently the situation La Paloma started the thread with is bogus, unless the archived cache is still in place and ES decided to go caching for it anyway (at least I find that to be doubtful). Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."
  22. Wow, I know about ES from the benchmarking forum. Logging fake finds or even BMs is just kinda stupid and worthless but doesn't really harm anyone. But logging bogus TB kinda sucks if it's not Electric Shavers own TBs. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."
  23. quote:Originally posted by Woodsters Outdoors:Yep way to go....I know a lot think of the "don't ask and they won't know" or the "wait till they complain about it" way of placing caches, but I believe that if there is a point of contact or reference to someone over the area that they should be contacted. In some cases it's simply not possible to "don't ask" because it's in an area that will automatically be archived (if the approver is on top of things). But even in areas of imminent archiving, there's always the possiblity of a unique situation that could open up some caching space if permission is granted. Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" 24. quote:Originally posted by Doc-Dean:Good Job Joefrog. Perhaps we should set up a file or a thread with the various letters or information which can be put into a letter to the various authorities to educate them and give an intelligent and well thought out discussion to persuade them to allow geocaching at their site. At the very least it will open the door to more discussion and dialog. Any thoughts on this? I was wishing for such a letter last week as I composed an email to some land management authorities. Did the best I could though and hopefully it might turn up some positive results. So yeah, seeing a thread or something in the FAQ that describes the best points to make when making "first contact" with a land manager would be cool and helpful.
