    Missing Images

I just uploaded some images to go along with my recent log (White Birch Cache, GCG9DJ) and in the main cache page my log entry doesn't show any photos but when I view my log in a second page (click on link to view this log on a separate page]) I see my image uploads as well as my log entry. Cache URL: (look for RooBoy's log entry) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f9-1f2a9fb17207 View my log in a second page URL: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...aa-ec2d6b68c1a1 Am I see this behaviour because of a gc.com glitch or something I didn't do right? Ciao RooBoy
  4. I'm in the Toronto area next week and looking for some recommendations for geocaching day trips. I will be staying in downtown Toronto and interested in getting out and seeing some of the lovely Canadian countryside (driving down to Niagara doesn't count, I've already done this during my last visit). Thanks in advance Daniel
  5. Just curious to know if anyone is intending to do some geocaching while riding across Iowa (Ragbrai)? Ciao RooBoy
  6. A geocaching friend (male) and I were out logging a find in a cache some 100 feet off an old railway that was converted into a trail. We were visible, but not fully visible, from the trail. Anyway as I get back up from replacing the cache, I notice a elderly couple standing on the trail looking at us. I don't know how long they were looking, but I could see that they thought that we were up to some hanky-panky. As we got back to the car park (a 1 mile walk) the same couple was sitting in their car, which was parked right next to my car. We showed them our GPSr's and explained that we were geocachers and what geocaching meant. Ciao RooBoy PS: This was the same geocaching trip that we were trailed by a East Dubuque police cruiser as we drove back to Iowa after finding a cache. We found safely and sanctuary back in Iowa.
  7. The official City of Coralville geocaching policy and placement application is now available from the coralville.org web site. Goto http://www.coralville.org/parksandrec.asp, and look at the bottom right of the screen (actually at the bottom of the right most column). Ciao RooBoy
  8. Talk about a storm in a teacup! If people get upset at receiving one (I think questionable) email, then I want to use their mail client because they must have something I don't have--a perfect, give or take one message, spam filter. Spaz I feel for you. Hang in there. Ciao RooBoy
  9. Yup. The weekly "let's hammer gc.com" has started. I believe that Jeremy said this would be fixed in early May with the addition of more gc.com resources. RooBoy
  10. While this cache is not the oldest, it must be one of the most remote (either found or not) and it is still available as a FTF for some adventurer. Roof of the World Ciao RooBoy
  11. Here are some photos of the Coralville, Iowa (one of the three Eastern Iowa Geocachers Association 2004 CITO events). The event was well attended and a great time was had by all. Enjoying one anothers company. A group portrait of those that remained to the end (Left to Right: RooBoy, Digmaster, S10, Durango Dale, Pulltabs, ThumperDeb, and The Pez. Fred was the photographer). The amount of trash we picked up. Ciao RooBoy

    Toronto Caches

I will be in the Toronto area for a Oracle database conference (IOUG, downtown Toronto, if you are going, send me some email and perhaps we can do some geocaching). Anyway, I was wondering if any of the locals had any geocaching recommendations for Toronto and the Niagara Falls areas? Ciao RooBoy
  13. As someone that grew up in a country where almost every snake is venomous (Down Under) and I've seen plenty of them, the one cardinal rule with snakes is LEAVE THEM ALONE! Then you don't have to worry about whether the snake can kill you or not. The next rule to follow is be aware of your surroundings at all times. Also remember that there is a difference between a threat and a risk. A threat to me is anything that I think can harm me (car crash, killed by a meteor, bitten by a snake). A risk is a threat that I think might possibly affect me. So I consider being involved in a car accident a risk and being killed by a meteor a threat. Another thing, the US Army (?) snake reference that someone pointed out is not a good reference. I looked at this and noticed that many of Australias venomous snakes are not even mentioned (brown snake, black snake). There there is the killer Australian funnel web spider and the killer blue ringed octopus. This link has a better list of nasty Australian creatures: Nasty Australian Creatures Ciao RooBoy
  14. I'm organizing a CITO event in Eastern Iowa and want to contact some local media (newspapers, perhaps tv). I have never done this and was wondering if anyone has some ideas on what to say/not say when trying to interest someone to cover our event. Also, does anyone have any experience with putting together a geocaching media packet for, who else, the media. What would one include/exclude? Is a media packet necessary? Ciao RooBoy
  15. I have been placing Knoppix Linux CD's (the Linux OS will run from the cd so there is nothing to install on your pc) as my signature item--the CD's are placed in a DVD case for protection from the elements (the DVD cover is shown below). Yes, I am an IT professional. The jury is still out when it comes to deciding how the geocaching public are reacting to my signature item. Ciao RooBoy
  16. I could not resist. Here is a thorn proof geocaching outfit: Pros: Stops most thorns. Very few people will be brave enough to stop you and ask what you are doing. Cons: Weight, field of view. Ciao RooBoy PS: I still have my thorn scars from my New Years Eve 2003 geocaching outing.
  17. If I remember my college spherical geometry correctly, your number may be accurate for the equator but your numbers need to be modified as your latitude increases. I believe that there is a cos (math function) that needs to be remebered--so at the north/south pole you have a value of 0. Ciao RooBoy
  18. The error I am getting right now when I try to upload some images is: Server Error in '/' Application. There is not enough space on the disk. Has the server had a disk (hardware) failure? Ciao RooBoy
  19. I have been experiencing intermittent server too busy issues for the last couple of weeks. RooBoy
  20. Cherokeecacher, In the "How much would a gallon cost" department, the price of ink jet printer ink is more valuable just about anything else on earth! Ciao RooBoy
  21. Success! Geocaching is now officially allowed in Coralville city parks, but the implementation and details of this policy are still being finalized. I believe that the system will work in a manner similar to Story counties (Iowa) geocaching policy. I will post the details when everything is finalized. A big thank you to Welch for attending the meeting. Ciao RooBoy
  22. NOTE: Venue change Monday's Parks & Recreation Commission meeting has been moved to the meeting room at City Hall, 1512 7th Street. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. RooBoy
  23. This coming Monday evening, Feb 23, 2004, at 7pm, the Coralville (Iowa) Parks & Recreation Commission will be having their monthly meeting. In early January 2004, I approached the Coralville Parks director, Juli Johnson, RE: getting the City of Coralville to officially allow geocaching in their parks. I have been invited to give a short presentation at Monday's meeting about geocaching and answer any geocaching questions that the commission may have. It would be great to see other geocachers attend this meeting if possilbe--the presentation is at the begining of the meting, so you won't have to stay for the whole meeting. The meeting is scheduled for 7pm at the Coralville Recreation Center, 1506 8th Street. I am told that there is a possibility that the meeting may be moved to the North Ridge Pavillion which is in North Ridge Park (off Holliday Road). If the venue is changed, I will post a note here. Regards Daniel Edit: Modify Coralville to Coralville (Iowa)
  24. I'm planning a trip out to Mt Rushmore in the summer, and was wondering if anyone could reccommend any "must visit" geocaches in norther Nebraska or southern South Dakota? I will be driving from eastern Iowa. Thanks for any help RooBoy
  25. Carleenp, are you a lawyer? I really only ever hear lawyers discussing the letter of the law versus the intent of the law. Ciao RooBoy
