+Bychowiec
How many of the geocaches you searched for have you actually found? Quote Link to comment
+MNTA
I wish I could say my dns count was zero. It appear I've logged 662 DNFs over the years though even thought I'm a huge fan of DNFs I did not always file one. Like it it was my 4th time trying for a 5/1.5 One of my favorite logs upon finding Oh my this cache has thwarted me so many times I have lost count maybe six or eight times. Today I wanted to go to the German store nearby and said why not one more try. Fortunately I brought my daughter who was holding the dogs while I started my search. She looked and pointed saying found it. I’m like no way, sure enough I touched it and viola there was the cache. I gave her a high five and told her lovingly “You suck!” She had noticed something just slightly different on her first attempt and not more than 30 seconds standing there. I’m in awe. Signed log giving a favorite per her request. Edited November 12 by MNTA 1 Quote Link to comment

I've logged 192 DNFs and 1934 finds, so about a 90% success rate. Most of those DNFs aren't missing, they just outwitted me on my first attempt.and often I've gone back better prepared and found them, so there'd be some double-counting in those numbers. The other thing I should mention is that, these days, a lot of my searches are on new caches as I've found all the older ones locally, so there's less likelihood of them being missing. +Goldenwattle
I have 14364 finds 1514 DNFs So 15,878 is what I have searched for. There would be a small number of DNFs I haven't logged, but that is VERY few, as I log almost all DNFs. In fact on some caches I have several DNFs logged. (Then you see someone else's log saying, found after five attempts. NOT one DNF🙄! Annoying those people, for several reasons.) 1 Quote Link to comment
+baer2006
My DNF rate is around 4% of all attempts. That has been more or less constant (maybe slightly decreasing) for many years now. On vacation in other countries it's notably higher, though - almost 10%. Caused probably by (most importantly) a lack of "phone a friend" options, followed by more caches actually missing, no experience with "local hiding habits", and no super-long searches because it's vacation and my wife is waiting . 1 Quote Link to comment
+MartyBartfast
My profile stats says: 9,362 finds I'll go with that... Quote Link to comment
+JL_HSTRE
I have always been pretty good about logging my DNFs so my lifetime DNF rate is 11%. If you exclude Virtuals and Earthcaches then it's probably more like 15%. Although I've been been caching for almost 15 years, I mostly cache solo and am severely nearsighted, so my DNF rate should be above average. I would expect the average honest experienced cacher that caches mostly solo, doesn't place throwdowns, rarely or never resorts to PAF, and logs DNFs is probably 3-5%. Depends on what types of caches they seek and where. If that same cacher were to regularly cache with 1-3 friends then it would probably push their DNF rate closer to 1%. Quote Link to comment

The reason I determined is the fact, that many caches are placed by visitors and after leaving the foreign country, no maintenance is performed and missing cache are not replaced. +CAVinoGal
Total Find Count = 3,162, of which 317 are lab caches DNF logs - 198 Notes: I typically DO log DNF's, although when with a group sometimes someone else will log for the group, sometimes I will log for the group. Multiple searches for the same cache, I'll typically log only one DNF unless owner maintenance logged, cache replaced, and I STILL can't find it!! Subtracting lab caches, my DNF logs are about 7%, and I'd guess that's pretty close to reality. Some days are better than others!! Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
I've got 13,808 finds. I found all of them. I've got 1,510 DNF logs, so, I whiff about 1 in 10 times. I probably have more DNFs, but I do try to log when I can't find it. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
We have 358 DNFs, more than half were archived soon after. Distance a thing with us, so rare to go back again. The other 2/3rds said at one time, I can't find anything smaller than a 30cal... But TBC... Every cache we've logged as found we found... Edited November 12 by cerberus1 To Be Clear... My DNFs are slight above 10% because I just log the DNF. Later I might contact someone to get some assistant, so I can return and find it. But that's after logging the initial DNF. 1 Quote Link to comment
