+BKip Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Why is it, when using the GC search box for "GC18kEK", a archived cache, I get 717 results, none of which is the desired cache, but, if I use the same search in Google it pops right out at the top of the page? 3 Quote

I noticed that when I use the app. Really annoying. 1 Quote
Moun10Bike Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Don't enter the GC code and then immediately hit enter; that will only give you the caches within 10 miles of that GC code (and archived won't show by default). Instead, let the selection option appear below the search field and then select the option to only show that particular cache. 1 7 Quote
+BCandMsKitty Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I NEVER waste my time using the GC search function. Found out early on that the only way to find something geocaching related is through google 1 1 Quote

Found out early on that the only way to find something geocaching related is through google I've tried googling GC related things a couple of times and never get any good results. It's possible I haven't mastered the keywords. I just stick with the GC search function, and it works well enough for me. But yes, as Moun10Bike said, you have to wait and let the "View GC0000" come up. Quote

But yes, as Moun10Bike said, you have to wait and let the "View GC0000" come up. the trick is to add site:geocaching.com to your search criteria. That limits the search to the GC site. Using the auto-suggest feature on the geocaching.com website makes it easy to find a specific GC code though. I use auto-suggest on several search interfaces I've developed. Quote
+instep_guy Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Use the old search page at https://www.geocaching.com/seek/ on the website. It allows you to search by GC code. Quote
+Viajero Perdido Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 If you're just looking for a single cache and you know its code, "searching" is overkill. Just use the shortcut URL: coord.info/GCxxxx https://coord.info/GC18kEK 1 2 Quote

Just use the shortcut URL: coord.info/GCxxxx https://coord.info/GC18kEK I bookmarked Mingo (GC30) and put it on my bookmarks bar. If I want to see the cache page for a GC code, I click on the bookmark, then copy-n-paste the GC code into the URL (replacing GC30_mingo) and hit return. That takes me to the page I want. Quote
