outforthehunt Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I'm looking for a location for YSM500.Maybe a historic location or one with a great view. You can post here or email me at outforthehunt@gmail.com. Thank you for any suggestions. Quote
+Simply Paul Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Please don't forget bringing YOSM to the Geolympix in Oxford next month, perhaps to that location we discussed? If you could have it there by July 14th so people running PQs 'catch' it, that would be really appreciated. On topic, firstly congratulations! It's already been to some of my personal favourites (St Kilda, St Martins, Eigg) but if it's not already been there, would you consider: Hawthornthwaite Fell Top, Cold Ashby (the first Trig), Harry Hut, something striking in the Western Isles or one of the trigs below sea level, for that Quirky value? There are some which have fallen over, some that were never officially used by the OS..? So many to chose from! Quote
+qrang Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 We already have Ben Nevis which is the highest point in Scotland and the UK. How about Snowdon Summit for YSM500 as it is the highest point in Wales. Quote
+Pharisee Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) How about the pillar "Hollyberry End" (TP3975). I don't think it's particularly historic or particularly difficult to get to but it is closest to Meriden, the acknowledged(?) geographic centre of the mainland. [edit] Or should that be the centre of England? Edited June 7, 2012 by Pharisee Quote
+Delta68 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 How about Snowdon Summit for YSM500 as it is the highest point in Wales. I wouldn't have thought it would need another Where is Snowdon Summit??? GC5F13 is already there Mark Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Rather than going for the highest, how about one below sea level? http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2857780 http://www.trigpointinguk.com/trigs/trig-details.php?t=4449 Quote
+Gackt Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 How about Uffington White Horse Hill. Fantastic views, and lots of area history sitting beside a hillfort, and the White Horse of course. Quote

+MartyBartfast Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Or there's one inside Old Winchester Hill Fort, TP5226 - Old Winchester Hill :- http://www.trigpointinguk.com/trigs/trig-details.php?t=5226 (and near enough to me that I could go grab it ) Quote
