I wish I had never heard of Geocaching, it is the most flustrating Hobby I have ever took up.

I wish there was a Geocaching Law that reqired Owners of caches to check their caches every three months and log that they have checked them.

why??

is there some specific problem you are having?

At this moment, dozens of people are examining your logs and your hides. Look out.

That's what I did...I see a bunch of recent smiley's and satisfied replies. One didn't have a log book, but he logged smiley and made mention it was gone.

Not that you need to log bad things about caches when you find them, but I'd be curious what the individual is seeing that is frustrating when it appears from the logs they're pretty happy.

Sounds like it's time to change what you are going after. These days I'm happy going out and finding one single cache rather than trying to find every cache in my area. At one point and time I would go back and back and back and back, now if I don't find it on the first shot I'm done.

this cache is missing its log - sorry, didn't have supplies with me to replenish as I was with Boy Scout Troop.

Hmm, I thought the boy scout motto was to always Be Prepared. :(

Flustrating.....caches that haven't been found or looked for in three months, or cachers that are not logging Did Not Finds, You know if there is three caches near each other and they find one chances are they looked for the other two.

Flustrating..... going to a location that You need a bush wacker to get close to it ,don't know how a human being can ever get to it in the summer time, 5 trees fallen and Un-Godly amounts rotten tree bark, rock's every where and they rate it a 3 difficulty

That sounds very frustrating.

You could probably avoid a lot of frustration by filtering out all caches that haven't been found in the past month, and all caches over a difficulty of 2. Even so, you'll likely look for a few that have gone missing since the last person found it. It's almost impossible not to have that happen.

Or, you could realize that part of the game is not finding them, and reporting back that you didn't find them. If you don't allow yourself to be frustrated you'll have a much better time. :(

I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated. As far as caches being hunted, I'd think the hider should be frustrated, but not sure you should worry about it, especially since your only 2 caches are archived.

As to difficulty, the ClayJar system, used by the website makes it sound to me like a 3 rating is dead on from the very little you told us about this complaint:

Difficulty rating:

* Easy. In plain sight or can be found in a few minutes of searching.

** Average. The average cache hunter would be able to find this in less than 30 minutes of hunting.

*** Challenging. An experienced cache hunter will find this challenging, and it could take up a good portion of an afternoon.

**** Difficult. A real challenge for the experienced cache hunter - may require special skills or knowledge, or in-depth preparation to find. May require multiple days / trips to complete.

***** Extreme. A serious mental or physical challenge. Requires specialized knowledge, skills, or equipment to find cache.

Terrain rating:

* Handicapped accessible. (Terrain is likely to be paved, is relatively flat, and less than a 1/2 mile hike is required.)

** Suitable for small children. (Terrain is generally along marked trails, there are no steep elevation changes or heavy overgrowth. Less than a 2 mile hike required.)

*** Not suitable for small children. (The average adult or older child should be OK depending on physical condition. Terrain is likely off-trail. May have one or more of the following: some overgrowth, some steep elevation changes, or more than a 2 mile hike.)

**** Experienced outdoor enthusiasts only. (Terrain is probably off-trail. Will have one or more of the following: very heavy overgrowth, very steep elevation (requiring use of hands), or more than a 10 mile hike. May require an overnight stay.)

***** Requires specialized equipment and knowledge or experience, (boat, 4WD, rock climbing, SCUBA, etc) or is otherwise extremely difficult.

I agree with Mushtang. Don't let it bother you, you'll have fun anyways. Some of my favorite caching trips ended in DNFs!

Hopefully cheminstr has learned a valuable lesson in the fine art of supplying only enough information so as to deliver the essential details without providing fodder to the 'silly machine'. :(

The recent Smiley's were Caches from Cacher Owners that wanted other Cachers with a GPS to find them.

That's what we all want. Right?

I want you to use your GPS to come find my caches.

Dang! Beat me to it!

So, aronnie, are you saying they emailed you and said "Hey, can you go find my already established cache, and make sure it is still there?"

Why did you hunt the caches?

What was the problem with them?

Most importantly, if there was a problem with the caches, why didn't you say so in the logs so that the cache owner would be aware of it? As a cache owner, that's what I'd find frustrating.

Sorry that you feel that way. Maybe just go after the newer ones until you get your spirit for caching back.

I completely agree. I might not feel that way all the time, but there are days.

Happy caching aronnie.

Your wish has been granted.

Alakazam!

You never heard of geoca... geocas... geo what?

And in fact all your memory is erased and you are found lying in a corner babbling incoherently and sitting in your bodily waste.

(OOPS! I thought this was the "corrupt-a-wish" thread.) :(

Hey,

…three caches near each other…chances are they looked for the other two…

Sure chances are good that she/he/they may have done that, but it is not guaranteed. I have done that on several occasions where I only looked for one and just simply ignored the others in an area until a later date. No real good reason why…just happened to do that. It may have been so I had a really good reason to get away from family for a while at a later date…get away from work for a while at a later date…or just to do something later…like I said, no good reason.

…going to a location that you need to bushwhack to get closer to…

If you are ever in my area…you may want to stay clear of some of my caches…I like to bushwhack and many of the cachers I go with will confirm that. The more scars I can gather, the better I feel about my caching experience. I usually try to take a different trail to a cache to avoid creating “established” geo-trails and still keep nature as good as it gets.

… can ever get to it in the summer time, 5 trees fallen and Un-Godly amounts rotten tree bark, rock's every where…

Ain’t mother nature great…I absolutely love that sort of stuff…again, you may want to avoid some of my caches if you ever travel this way.

Overall, my words of “wisdom” are to pick your caches carefully…the great thing about this activity is there are caches for every type of person out there…

What you may not like…other will and visa versa…I for one would seem to like the type of caches you do not like…I like the challenge in finding a cache…finding parking for a cache…finding a way to a cache and finding a new way back to my car from the cache…caching is all what you make of it. I hope your experiences will improve as your caching time builds!!!

Later,

That actually sounds fun.........for me.

So, make sure you filter those out........
