+trooperdjb
I've had my GBS 60 for about a month now and use it often while driving. The thought occured to me the other day that my cell phone charger is also a mini USB (Motorola) Just wondering if anyone has tried this to save on battery life. Thanks for any comments Quote Link to comment
wolfbait
This topic should be moved to the GPS section... ... If a mod would be so kind Quote Link to comment
Keystone
I will be so kind. Moving from "Geocaching Topics" to the "GPS Units and Software" forum. Quote Link to comment

+Bus36
Thank you... and good luck finding answers trooperdjb I bought a usb/car adapter and use my usb cord to run the 60cx in the car. Quote Link to comment
+The Cheeseheads
It will work. I use the car charger for my Motorola RAZR and it works just fine. The only drawback is that it's a coiled cord, so it limits where I can place the unit without it snapping on the floor. I suppose a mount would solve that problem, though. Note that it will only power the unit. If you use rechargable batteries, the power adapter will not charge them as well. Edited March 5, 2007 by The Cheeseheads Quote Link to comment

Also, you can find some nice alternative USB phone chargers that can get you around the issue of the coiled cord. Try Target or the store that sells accessories for your phone. Quote Link to comment
+Red90
The cheapest solution is to get a 12V to USB adapter and the stock cable that comes with the unit. Quote Link to comment
+Tactical Cache Marauder
I too use my RAZR cell phone charger to run my 60 csx in my truck. Works great. And the backlight is on all the time. Quote Link to comment
+team5150
After this topic was raised a couple of months back I went out and got myself a USB charger for my Razr V3 and (of course) my 60CSx. It has a long thin cord that recoils back into the case that plugs into the power point. the cord is long enough that the kids can look at it in the back seat while its plugged in the console between the front seats. I got it at Wally world for about $12. Very handy, compact, and works like a charm. Quote Link to comment
+Klatch
I believe the OP means he has a GPSMap 60? Does that model support power through the USB port? Quote Link to comment
CenTexDodger
I believe the OP means he has a GPSMap 60? Does that model support power through the USB port? Well, in the headline he says 60CSx. As far as the GPSmap 60 I could find no reference to it in the manual. Someone that owns one could provide more insight. Quote Link to comment

+cache_r_joe
I have 2 options, one is a cig lighter plug in with a usb port on it, also I use the car charger for my Blackberry. Joe Quote Link to comment

chuckr30
This is a good idea. I have the GPSMap 76csx, but the car mount blocks the mini usb port, so I can only use the round port. Quote Link to comment
+trooperdjb
Thanks for the replies and sorry yes it is a GPSMap 60CSx. Tried it on the drive home today with my phone charger and it worked great. Just cut my battery bill to a fourth. Even with the curley cord and straight out the back plug it sits on the console pretty well. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
As described in the faq at http://www.gpsfaqs.org/faqs/garmin/xseries/g60csx/power.html you can power an X model via the USB connector. You can not charge the batteries while they're in the unit. Quote Link to comment

Hello Chuck, I am considering the 76CSx and would like your feedback on this gps. Any pitfalls I should be aware of? Thanx, Ray Quote Link to comment
