Event Calendar for Northwest

In Kitsap and Pierce counties we tend to throw a lot of events. It takes months of planning to throw a good event and sometimes we have to reserve parks and event venues at the beginning of January to secure them. Since we can list events only 3 months out it, sometimes happens that we've all thought the same weekend is a great time for an event and we tend to overlap.

I thought it would be a good idea if we had a 2007 calendar of events to show when there are scheduled events. It gives potential event hosts an idea of who else is eyeballing that date and it also gives everyone an idea of what's going on through a whole year for caching events.

This calendar is for the Olympic Peninsula and counties south. Everything from Puget Sound west and, roughly, Olympia north.

Here's the CALENDAR link.

If you want to add an event just let me know. Doesn't matter if it's carved in stone or still in the planning stages.

I think this is a great idea - thanks for setting it up!

Suggestion: Make it for the entire NW corner - all of Washington, down to Portland, up to Vancouver/Victoria. Many of us travel to events throughout the region, and often have to decide between competing events - say, in Wenatchee and Port Orchard, or Spokane and Vancouver - on the same weekend.

Great idea! It would be great if you could expand this to include at least all of western WA, as Hydnsek suggested. I've got an event in the planning stages for the 48 North area on a Saturday at the end of January, but haven't listed it yet. It would be helpful to know what other events might be coming up around the same time to avoid conflicts.

All very valid points. And you're both right. If we are going to all work to spread the events we need to include more area.

How about if we include everything from the Canadian border down to Salem and from the Cascade Mts westward?

If you have events you're thinking of might as well let me know and I'll put them on the calendar now. All I ask is that when they get set in stone (you rent a hall or have it published) you let me know so I can get it locked in solid on the calendar. Likewise if the event doesn't look like it's going to happen let me know so I can open that date back up.

Thanks for offering to expand the calendar - but I'll still lobby for all of Washington, not just west of the Cascades. Wenatchee and Spokane are two areas that host events on a regular basis, and those of us just west of the Cascades often attend them (esp. in Apple Country  ).

The past two WSGA summer campouts have been east of the Cascades, as well, so having all of WSGA territory covered would be great.

This is a great idea! It's about time someone came up with this idea, and go figure.....it was someone who has nothing else on her plate, to do so. This is why you wear the tiara, right?

When the MR. called to tell me the thread had been pinned I thought... holy moley what have I done this time!? Think up one little good idea.....

I've got no problem keeping the calendar updated since it's going to benifit all of us who are in the plotting and planning stages of an event. I think it will keep things a little more orginized and give us a lot more time to plan adventures and parties.

There are going to be two basic events. One will be the 'done deal' events. Those will show in all bold letters on the calendar. The other will be 'planned' events. Those will be in lower case letters.

The difference between the two will be this:

"Done Deal" Events should have a venue reserved. Money has exchanged hands, paperwork has been drawn up.

"Planned" Events will be dates that are being eyeballed by a host. It's the date they'd like to have the event on but nothing is in stone yet.

Events can easily be moved and refined once they're on the calendar.

I'm not opposed to putting unofficial events (like little cache machines, or hikes) onto the calendar as well.

Now.... the area that we cover. Since this is for all of us in the Pacific Northwest you have a say on what areas should be covered. If you think that the calendar should include all of Washington and all of Oregon ...so be it.

I am going to limit it to ONLY Washington and Oregon. Sorry Idaho and Northern California.

And yeah... I've earned my tiara. I may have to go put it on right now in fact!

Just projected the Shop99er events into 2008. These dates aren't set in stone but since we tend to reserve space months in advance for our events this gives you good guidelines of what time frames we are thinking of.

Feel free to let me know if you are thinking of some events in '08. I'd be happy to include them. Just keep me in the loop if they are a "go" or not.

2nd Annual Lemonade Social

Sunday August 26th from 2pm to 4pm(?) Join us at beautiful Hillendale Park In Oregon City for an afternoon meet and greet of fellow geocachers in the area. On the agenda: bingo, a waterballoon toss, a fun group event and a door prize drawing.

Just like last year, we'll have Lemonade, cookies and Hotdogs.

The Dead Battery Bucket will be there, so save up your dead batteries and bring them to the event for recycling.

At the Canby Bash last month we collected a full bucket of batteries, can we beat that at this event?

Just updated the calendar. Please check to see if I've missed anything.

If you have a general date for a future (like WAYYYY in the future) event let me know and I'll put that on the calendar as well. The Yahoo calendar is projected out into 2008 for people putting a dibs on a date.

Here's a Spokane Event coming up:

Fiesta de Caro

Hola amigos! It's time once again to enjoy the last dog days of summer at one of our favorite caching grounds, good ol' Camp Caro. In celebration of Mexico Independence Day (a few days early), we'll be feasting on Mexican food in between playing geo-games and catching up with one another.

Time: 11:00 - 2:00; the feast will be ready around noon

Date: September 8, 2007

Where: Camp Caro in the Dishman Hills

What to bring: Lawn chairs, beverages, your GPS, hiking shoes, and your smiley geoface

The Inland Empire Chapter of the WSGA will provide all the fixins for tacos and burritos, and dessert too. There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy

A Wenatchee event coming up for everyone to enjoy. If you were at the "In like a lion, Out like a lamb" car rally event, you'll have a bit of an upperhand...

What: Wenatchee Valley Rally (GC15WQ0- awaiting for approval)

Date: October 27th, 2007

Time: Starting at 1 p.m.

Where: Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee

What to bring: Paper map, your GPS, full tank o’gas, sense of adventure.

Also, there's a fair number of new caches in the valley and I've ordered sunshine for the weekend. Would be a great time to bring your bike and "do the loop" for all the caches there.

Wenatchee's also planning on having a CITO on Sunday, October 28. We would like to take advantage of a weekend that has the rally that Robinego mentions in the post above this, and also that it's the weekend of Make a Difference Day. Our town likes to do a lot of community things for Make a Difference Day.

The page isn't up, but if you're coming, plan on spending the whole weekend - Rally on Saturday, CITO on Sunday.

When we have more info, I plan on starting a thread about it, thanks.

Add the Vancouver (WA) Cache Machine for January 5, 2008. I originally scheduled it for December 29, but that conflicts with the annual WSGA holiday party.

Updated the calendar and added the Cache Machine. Thanks for the heads up.

Dec 29 is a WAGA event? Haven't heard about it and don't see it on the events calendar. Someone want to clue me in? Official event or just a get-together?
