+michigansnorkelers Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 This should be a short, simple thread. I came across some nice little Christmas needlepoint craft kits. They contain a pattern, backing material, various color threads, and a sewing needle. I think they would be a really neat cache item. BUT! Is the sewing needle a banned item? I couldn't decide from the guidelines. If so, (sew), would it be tacky to remove the needle and place the kit without it? Quote

I couldn't decide from the guidelines. If so, (sew), would it be tacky to remove the needle and place the kit without it? I think it would be fine! I have often seen fishing hooks in caches, so I dont think a sewing needle would be an issue (as long as its not attached to a syringe) Sounds like a fine cotton affair to me! Quote
+nfa Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 (edited) I think that it would be fine... Shortly after 9/11 I was flying to Miami and I had my mini-tool with a 1.5 inch blade confiscated by men with guns while a grandma in front of me walked onto the plane with 14-inch metal knitting needles...so needles must be safe! +Dave_W6DPS Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I can't see a problem with a kit like that. A loose needle might be a hazard, but if it is in the kit there should be no problem. Great swag idea, and quite timely! Dave_W6DPS Quote
Neos2 Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I agree with everyone else--the kit would be fine, and the needle doesn't present a safety hazard as part of that kit. I think many people would enjoy finding one of these. Quote
+Cpt.Blackbeard Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I also agree, a sewing needle is not a very good weapon so I see no reason it would be banned from caches. Quote
Luckless Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I might be leary of leaving something like that not because of the needle but because I'd worry about it staying dry and clean in a cache. Quote
+Foothills Drifter Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Howdy...... JUST DO IT....... Vern... Quote

That's why man invented Zip Lock baggies. I'm a knitter myself. And while I wouldn't put knitting needles into a cache, I've been toying with the idea of putting knitted items into a cache. Stocking hats and washcloths would be of reasonable size for an ammo box or a plastic container. You never know when something like that might come in handy. That... and I have a lot of yarn to use up... Quote
+Woodbutcher68 Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I don't know. I once saw a movie where they couldn't figure out how a man died. Sherlock Holmes found a tiny hole at the base of the man's skull, the area of the medulla. He had been stuck there with a sewing needle! Seriously though, I don't think the kit would be a problem. +fishingdude720 Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 i wouldnt mind getting that. and yes I have found a whole cache full of fishing stuff with ne shiny fish hooks which are most definetely sharper than a sewing needle (i think am I right?)! Quote
+usyoopers Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I have put counted cross stitch kits (with needles) into caches, no one has complained yet! There are also childrens craft kits out there, everything in them to make a cute little crafty thing...I have put them in caches also. Beats finding broken plastic toys, I think. Quote
