+Sensei TSKC Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I was updating my profile today and notice that the counties map I have from this address: http://marnanel.org/counties no longer exists. I have the other map from Geocache UK. Does anyone know if the former map is available elsewhere? Oss! (in advance) Quote
barryhunter Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Don't know if it will help you, but GeocacheUK can also create auto-updating counties map, see this recentish thread (or look at my profile for a lame example) Quote
+The Bolas Heathens Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 It looks great, but is it suffering from the same bug the cache finds map we discussed here the other day had - it's showing we've found a cache in Somerset which is not right as we've not had the pleasure of caching there yet? Try adding &found=1 to only show found logs, which sometimes helps... http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....102&found=1 vs http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....nt&c=479102 However I don't see Sumerset highlighted on either map? +The Bolas Heathens Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 That's better, but it still does not work if I use the flat colour option: http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....600&found=1 Hmm - if it's not Somerset it's whatever county is between Somerset and Devon - North Devon? +2202 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Marnanels server is down and under repair according to his blog. I have Photoshopped a counties map if it disappears forever. Quote

+Teasel Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Hmmm, strange! I'll take a look... Found the problem! The program was looking for specific colours on the map at the same time as changing them into the desired colour. That was fine for the standard colouring (with a little care over sort orders etc), but when a flat colour was introduced it was mucking things up. I've now changed it so that it works out what all the colours should be on a first pass, then changes them all on a second pass. Things now look a little more consistent. I also fixed the "DNF" bug, so the map now shows counties where you've found a cache, as opposed to counties where you've logged a cache. Still no fix for the general problem of mobile caches though Quote

Works fine for us now, Thanks! In fact we like the look so much and the fact that it updates, that we've replaced the old map permanently. B. Quote
+Alibags Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I now have Teasels excellent map, but I seem to have lost a county. I only had one cache find in that county and now the cache is archived, the county is missing from my map. Boo hoo hoo. is there are cure? Quote

+NickandAliandEliza Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Yes I know I'm an idiot who can't use his computer but..........what would I use to get my county map? 78370 is our caching number I think. Quote
Deego Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 (edited) Try this <img>http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap.php?type=count&c=78370&flat=ff6600&found=1</img> or <img>http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap.php?type=count&c=78370&found=1</img> Edited November 5, 2006 by Deego Quote

Anyone know why this might be? FMC Quote

Anyone know why this might be? FMC Because by default the map doesnt show archived caches, add a &unavail=Y to the end of the image url eg http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap.php?type=count&c=470314&unavail=Y (I should also mention that the &found=1 that I have mentioned before is no longer needed it will always count found logs only) Edited November 8, 2006 by barryhunter Quote
+celebr8 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I have recently found a cache in Dyfed but the county is not showing up on my map though the dot is showing up on my geocacheuk profile. The code I am using is http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....f&unavail=y Have I got the code wrong or am I just impatient? I was also wondering if it is possible to ignore a particular type of cache. I have avoided doing YOSMs to avoid having random counties lighting up but if virtuals could be disregarded this would solve that. TIA celebr8 Quote
barryhunter Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Try http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap.php?type=count&c=586608&flat=00bfbf&unavail=Y you had two small errors double t on the word count, and a lower case Y at the end. (both of which makes all the difference to the computer ) (we'll see what can do about 'avoiding' certain types of cache's as you say virtuals might be a good one to skip) Quote
+FollowMeChaps Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Thanks Barry, now sorted - I've also gone from Lib Dem to Tory ! Berfore this geocaching malarkie I new nothing about html so this is another thing the past time has taught me - not that I'm pretending to understand this bit of code though ! I keep a copy of my html in Word for both this and cache pages that I own - that way I can see the code but also put in hard returns, bolds, underlines etc so I can visualise them to make editing easier for me. It also allows me to edit offline and keep a backup. A workmate says I should not use Word as this tweaks the code which may have accounted for my 'slight error'. Any suggestions as to what I could use instead? FMC Quote
barryhunter Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I would recommend just using Notepad (Probably found in Accessories in the Start Menu), this is a simple text editor that will store the text in plain .txt files. Being so simple it will not 'mess' with your code. For the record I don't think in this case Word would really break the HTML, as its only if you do a 'save as' into a html format, even so it can cause problems so best avoided! Quote

Quite a few counties missing now....... Viewing your profile, the image url ends 8370&unavail=Y%3C/a%3E so I guess there is some sort of typo in the html you are using... %3C/a%3E translates as </a> so I think you have either one of them extra, or perhaps an unclosed <a href tag which is confusing GC's htmltidy. +FollowMeChaps Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 ......................so I guess there is some sort of typo in the html you are using... Are you using Microsoft Word to draft the html then copy and paste into Geocache.com? I used to do this with the same results. I was advised to switch to a simple editor, like Notepad, which has fixed the problem - Word's a bitch and tinkers with the html. FMC Quote
